" 2018 A REFLECTION "

So my first full year of blogging is now under my belt, so what did I manage to achieve ? I actually managed to paint more of my own hobby models then business models, in fact more hobby models than the last 10 years combined. Now the total is mostly IA miniatures but that's not a bad thing as it means I'm closer to playing the campaign I want to. So what's the totals I hear you ask ? 142 hobby models and 46 business models, I didn't include any repairs or repaints I did for the business just new paints.
Recently on Simon's blog fantorical he mentioned my Star Wars painting as obsessive ! LOL I like to think of it as focused which has meant less distractions and actually achieving my desired goal, which is my current collection all painted. Now I haven't managed it completely as I still have some Stormtroopers to paint, but all the rest are now done including basing, which in hindsight I should have done as I went not wait until the end, what a chore that was ! LOL So here's what they look like all done
the imperials combing the desert for the droids their looking for !
                                                         a very small Tusken Camp
all the adventurer's in one place
annual meeting of the Droids Against Oppression
annual picnic of Bounty Hunter's at Hangmans rock
patron's of the cantina make a quick exit as the Wookie ordered the Chilli !
Jabba and his denizens take the Rancor for his annual walk
So what does 2019 hold for me, I would like to continue with my IA stuff as my main focus hobbywise, but also like to finish some Judge Dredd models I've got, and also take part in Forgotten Heroes again, possibly doing not as many models as I did last year ! But we will have to wait and see.
2019 for the business will see new models and scenery through the year starting in February no new releases in January, as people have a lot to do after Xmas, and recovering credit cards. We have Sci-Fi scenery planned, Post Apocalyptic, some Fantasy and a new gladiator race and creature for Death Match. If you have ideas you would like to see us build drop me a message, as always happy to take on new ideas and suggestions.
In closing I would like to wish you all a Happy, Safe and Productive New Year, so until next time in 2019 have fun !
Cheers Dave

  1. "So my first full year of blogging is now under my belt, so what did I manage to achieve?" - Well me ruddy well dipping into my backlog of partially-painted "Star Wars" minis for starters, Dave ;-)

What a mouth-wateringly good year's work, Dave, and many congratulations on getting the first twelve months under your belt. This is definitely the go-to website for all things "Star Wars: Imperial Assault", imho, as well as a great advertisement for your green-stuff wizardry. Really looking forward to the next twelve months, and a huge thanks for posting all this stuff up, so I can "coo" and "gurgle" at the minis and paint-jobs :-)

  2. Thank you Simon, if it's inspired you to finish some of your models, then I think I've achieved something ! LOL
I must admit it's been hard this year trying to achieve balance between hobby and business, and several times through the year thought about giving up the blog as I got too distracted from what I needed to be working on, but glad I persevered. Hopefully next year will be easier, just need to plan ahead better, and less of the OH SHINY ! LOL

    1. "Less of the OH SHINY" - No chance, as you'll soon see from opening post of January 2019 I have a few new rule-sets to work on, including "Star Wars: Legion" - so you're postings aren't helping me at all!! LOL!! Thanks for the big shout-out too!!
    2. No problem Simon on the shout out, as for the IA postings not helping you have time before the next one as I need to either purchase some more figures or sculpt some more, and as I'm busy working on March and April's releases for the business you should be okay ! LOL but I won't guarantee it

  3. What a totally cool article (best yet), and a cool look back at 2018. You certainly have achieve a lot and should be proud of your achievements. The fact you have concentrated primarily on Star Wars, namely Imperial Assault is a testimony of focused creativity and sticking power. You are fast becoming the go to place for all things AI. At the rate you are applying yourself to this chosen subject, your foreshadowed campaign in the making will be a thing of deep immersive content and great beauty, I have no doubt.

Handing you the running of TGC was a good move, and you prove this time and time again with your weekly articles. Gave me space to breath and re-evaluate what I wanted to do and where I wanted my hobby to go.

All the best, and may your 2019 be a brilliant one.

    1. Thank you Steve, in the past with hobby I've got distracted easily and ended up spreading myself too thin with too many gaming systems on the go, the blog has given me focus this year and I've concentrated on only two systems IA and Death Match, have played a few games of IA, but planning to use a different set of rules for my campaign that's a bit more immersive and centred around Dash and trying to raise enough money to get the Outrider fixed so he can get off this dust ball.
Glad you've had the time to reevaluate and focus on where you want to go with your hobby, and look forward to seeing what you do with your new blog.
Hope 2019 is better than how 2018 finished for you mate.
And the Typo's are back ! ROFL

    2. Great to hear from you Steve - You are very much missed!! We need to have another long phone conversation soon, its only been over a year since the last one!! LOL :-)
    3. hahhaa, awww thanks Simon. its sure been a long time hasn't it ^^

I mostly mass with historical games nowadays, blog wise anyway I mean. But I keep threatening to start another one dedicated purely to Mage Knight and Horror Clix. I got a few thousand Mage Knight minis and many hundred Horror ones too, and I notice no one on line seems to be talking about that game at all nowadays. Maybe there`s an opening ^^

    4. Mass..... omg that summons up images of my Napoleonic soldiers all kneeling at the altar and drinking the blood of Christ.

      mess......... I meant mess.
    5. Definitely an opening, Steve, as "Mage Knight" was my first introduction to pre-painted wargaming, and I still own most of my armies from when I first started collecting them. Take very good care, and Happy New Year.
  5. I`m the typo king, didn't you know ^^ LOL

Yeah Hils having to go over to England to look after her parents wasn`t expected and altered all our plans especially with guests and everything. Course she had to buy her flight over last minute AFTER we had already spent all that money on grub and everything, yeeesh! But we made the best of it, and will have our own special private little affair when she gets back (in three weeks uuuugh!!!).

Interesting that you plan on moving on to another set of rules for your future Dash adventures. Imperial Assault is masterly, no doubt about it. But its a bit like Zombicide (also masterly), great for playing as a boardgame with miniatures in it, and gives you a certain (if somewhat shallow) campaign potential. But if you want to play zombie games on par with something like "Walking Dead" you`d need to find something with more depth, like "All Things Zombie" or what not. Imperial Assault is a bit like that too isn't it. GREAT game, but not ideal if you want to take the experience away from what it is and more into a true RPG.

Imperial Assault is actually heavily based off of Wizards of the Coast`s Star Wars Miniatures Skirmish game, which (in my honest opinion) was a far better game: and didn`t go out of print because it was unpopular but because Wizards realised the bottom had gone out of the (over saturated) market with random packaged tradable miniatures and ditched out of the whole thing. That game in turn ran off the slightly early D&D Skirmish Miniatures game, and so 3rd edition D&D miniatures and Star Wars miniatures were very compatible - stat card and rules wise: in fact the two games were interchangeable. Wizards of course simply sold the rights to Fantasy Flight.

If you are looking for a good game in which to place Dash Rendar.. you might want to check this old game out Dave. No other Star Wars games on the market since this, has equalled this classic. Many provide nice eye candy, but if its rules and playability you want, Wizards got it soooo right.

    1. Will certainly look into this set of rules, as it would mean not having to write my own set of rules ( Just got too many for the business to finish and don't have the time ! LOL) So thank's for the recommendation

    2. I`ll find out and send you a PDF of the rules... and if you like them, I got thousands of stat cards I can send you (all in black and white too, so easy on printing) of all the characters and creatures they made for that game. Yes, they made over 2000 minis for it lol
    3. That would be awesome Steve, it is far quicker to be able to adapt than to start from scratch. Any stats missing should be easy enough to make my own following the examples given.

  6. You have been a busy boy haven't you, and you didn't even include your ABC warriors in the photo's (your best stuff IMHO), love the combing the desert shot that is worthy of my humour! (that's not a good thing by the way!).

I think I like your massive droid collection best of the IA stuff, that isn't to say that the rest of it isn't might impressive too, here's to 2019.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, I didn't include the ABC warriors as I don't see them as finished yet as I still need to do the basing and make the rest of the models ! LOL
I see we have a similar sense of humour !
Still a few more droids needed, found where I can get the two medical droids, and really need to finish the power droid and K2 and I'm sure there is more I'll find I need as well ! I wish OCD came with a switch so I can turn it off from time to time ! ROFL

  10. A great round up of the year Dave, it's good to see how much you achieved in a big lump.
I liked at the first picture and thought oh dear he's using a comb for scale! Why didn't he use a rule?
Then I read the cheesy caption :)

Well done on a good year.

  12. Great work and congratulations on getting that many IA models done - your games must look fantastic!
I'll also second Stephen Gilbert on the old WotC game being something that would probably be worth your while looking into - I haven't played IA skirmish, but the WotC skirmish is a simple and fun time.

    1. Cheers mate, the next part to concentrate on will be the scenery, to make the games look like stills from a movie. Eventually I'd like to be able to do a 6' x 4' board of Mos Eisley.
Steve has already sent me the rules so I'm currently reading through to see what areas I need to tweak

    2. Do you plan to buy, buy and modify, build or both? The Hasbro 3 3/4" scale Sandcrawler would be a perfect size to incorporate as well as a LoS-blocker, or table-edge piece. Looks like you can get it from Disney now - expensive but less so than the scalpers on eBay! https://www.shopdisney.com/sandcrawler-playset-star-wars-1496522
    3. I had thought about building a sandcrawler but will have a look at one of these as it would save a lot of time, many thanks for the heads up
