JEDI TRIAL !

Jetta woke to find herself in the middle of an arena, there were four large metal doors that were closed, and four smaller man size doors also closed, she couldn't see anyone above the walls watching her.
As she rose to her feet three of the large metal doors started to open revealing a Reek, an Acklay, and a Nexu. She reached for her lightsabre and was surprised to find it in it's normal position, igniting it she stood ready for the coming onslaught.

Thinking on her feet she rushed the Nexu, and engaged the beast, leaving the other two beasts a distance away for the moment.
with a flurry of blows each one finding it's mark bar one, the beast was not as lucky with it's blows as only one hit true, the rest being parried or blocked with the force.
Nexu rolled two red dice scoring a hit and a blank with it's base hits of 3 gave a total of 4 hits and one block.
Jetta chose to roll one red dice and one green dice scoring her 3 hits and 1 block, with her base hits of 2 and 2 blocks gave her a total of 5 hits and 3 blocks.

The Nexu, fought back as any predatory animal would when wounded, and landed twice as many blows as before but wasn't enough, as Jetta managed to land enough fatal hits to kill the beast.
Nexu scoted 2 hits giving a total of 5 hits and 1 block
Jetta scored 2 hits and 1 block giving a total of 4 hits and 3 blocks

The two other beasts closed across the arena to attack Jetta. Having dispatched the Nexu she turned attention on the Reek and charged into combat, this beast wasn't going to be as easy to defeat as it tried to gorge her with it's horns and stomp her with it's feet, but her skills meant that she landed more blows than she took.
Reek scored 4 hits and with it's base score of 2 hits and no blocks had a total of 6 hits and 0 blocks
Jetta rolled 3 hits, so had a total of 5 hits and 2 blocks

The reek fought back with howls of pain, but wasn't strong enough to prevail with the flurry of attacks that she returned and fell to her swift blade.
Reek scored 3 hits giving a total of 5 hits and no blocks
Jetta scored 4 hits giving her a total of 6 hits and 2 blocks

The Acklay wanting to get in on the action, strode into combat finish to finish her off, Jetta spun round at the sound of it's charging bellow, she was getting weak now, and would need to defend herself as she wouldn't last much longer.
The Acklay rolled 2 hits and a skull, meaning only it's base score of 2 hits and 1 block would count.
Jetta rolled 1 hit and 1 block giving her a total of 3 hits and 3 blocks.

She didn't know how much longer she could keep this up, as her wounds were really taking a toll on her, if she was going to survive, she would need to push with all her remaining strength and defeat this last creature.with one last push she threw everything she had at the creature, but in her state of weakness the Acklay held off and pierced her to the floor with a killing blow.
Acklay scored 2 hits and no blocks giving a total of 4 hits and 1 block
Jetta scored 4 hits giving a total of 6 hits and 2 blocks

Darth Vader and the Emperor walked out of the shadows, at the top of the arena, "As I told you my master she was not as strong as she thought !" "Indeed my apprentice, but it is another Jedi eradicated !"
This game was played using the Death Match rules, using the human stats for Jetta, equipped with a lightsabre (laser sword) force push (laser shield) and jedi skills (light armour).
The Reek was using Horned Hominid rules

The Nexu used the Saretooth Razorback rules

And the Acklay used the Female arachnid rules

These 3 models were my Father's day gift and had been safely stuck in a box until last week, but rather than just paint them and show them off I thought I'd put them in a game.
That's all for this post so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

" SCAPEGOAT"

Cragor strode up the stairs from the ready room that had effectively been his cell for over a week, the door to the arena at the top of the stairs was already open, and the light from the entrance hurt his eyes as he hadn't seen daylight for over a week. He alternated covering one eye then the other to help his eyesight adjust to the brightness, his mind was still on the Kajaka attack last night and what had driven the creature into the city, but he needed to focus on the here and now as everything felt wrong. The door only opened when you had reached the top of the stairs normally, and there was no noise emanating from the arena which you could hear through the closed door normally.

He reached the top of the stairs and strode out into the arena, his opponent was already waiting for him, the thing that stood waiting for him was new to him ! It looked similar in form to a Revili, but a lot larger, with a strange skin tone that almost pulsated green colour throughout.
He reached the centre of the arena and faced the lords spot, there was only two Traventians there, Vallatrix and his adviser Styx the rest of the arena was empty, not even a commentator or film crew, this confirmed his suspicion that he was being made a scapegoat for the events that went on the last time he stepped into this arena, if he made it out of here alive he wanted answers to a lot of questions.
Styx stood up and spoke
" Cragor if you survive today, you will be free to leave with no repercussions for the previous events, now BEGIN ! "
He took the initiative and charged straight at the bulky creature, catching it unaware and driving his horn deep into the chest area, then with a flurry of strikes from his pugile stick, all finding there mark with no reaction from the bulk, it was almost as if it didn't know how to react.
He pressed home his advantage and attacked again, this time the bulk reacted with his attack shield and landed two hits on him while Cragor showed his prowess in the ring landing four blows pass the bulk's armour.
The bulk went to strike back but stumbled allowing Cragor to press home his advantage landing another four blows pass the bulk's armour, the bulk dropped to his knees and then fell flat on his face plate, he was done.
He had defeated this creature before any beast had even been released ! Styx addressed him
" congratulations Cragor, we don't see any point in wasting any of our precious beasts"
At this point an Etheral appeared next to Vallatrix and Styx, these strange alien creatures were rarely seen and little was known about them, but seemed to be conversing with them, perhaps be telepathy as there was no visible mouth.
After a while, Styx addressed him
"Cragor we have been alerted to the fact that you were attacked by a Kajaka last night, and you are interested in investigating why they've moved into the city, if your willing lord Vallatrix would like you to hire a team to recover the beasts that have recently been released into the wild and what effects it's having on the eco system. You will be payed for your services "
Cragor stood pondering the offer, he was already interested in what was causing the migrations, so why not get paid for it !
"I accept, but I pick the team, and you finance the whole expedition"
" Agreed !"

  1. Oh wow... both those minis look awesome, Dave, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing this range in the flesh (so to speak) at Salute :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, with all the casting at the moment I didn't have space to set up the arena for the game, so rolled the dice and took the pics of the two new characters, the later part was played with the RPG rules, which are coming along but still need work to finish

  2. And so the story unfolds...

Nice to see one of the Bulks painted up and a sirprise with the Ethereal figure. What an unusual looking creature, with a lovely paint job. I think I'd be tempted to paint it up like a lionfish - the wings are quite reminiscent of that fish.

Just how big is the Bulk? He looks to be rather hwfty.

    1. Thank's Jez, was fun to paint and to try and get a green under colour while still having pink flesh, the next one may be harder as the body used to be a Traventian. He is rather large being bigger than a Ceratid.
The Etherial was one of those models that literally happened over a couple of days, and a lot of the work was done for me as I cast it in the translucent blue, a lion fish colour scheme could look really good on the model with his shape

" TIME THE MIND KILLER "

Cragor sat sharpening his weapons with his laser sharpener, this had become part of his daily routine for the last seven days, ever since Vallatrix had requested he remained in the Gladiator ready room after the games he had been part of were stopped. The servants who brought his food to him daily seemed to have no information about what had happened, or were instructed not to tell him.
He knew Vallatrix would be looking for a scapegoat and guessed this was why he was languishing in this room.
When he first arrived a cot was provided for him to sleep on, and a physician sent to tend his wounds, he would have healed faster in the med vats, but that would have meant leaving the arena. The wounds were now healed enough they wouldn't hamper him no matter what was thrown at him.
Each day he would rise and exercise for an hour, then he would spend two hours practising with his weapons keeping his skills honed to perfection, after lunch he would meditate remembering his teachings and all the knowledge he had gained in his life. This was the hardest part of the day for him as he found he couldn't focus like he used to, and his mind would wander to what life could be. He found that his life lacked the purpose he felt it should have, and wanted new challenges. If he got out of this predicament he would seek a new challenge.
When he could concentrate no more he would pick up his weapons and sharpen them, giving himself purpose again, not that they needed it this was just a way to stop his mind from wandering.
The servant opened the door and brought in a tray of food for him.
" I have a message for you sire, Vallatrix would like you to partake in tomorrows games, after that you will be able to return to your home "
"Really" he replied "And who am I to face ?"
" I don't know sire !"
He thanked her and returned to his sharpening, getting lost in the task, so lost he didn't hear the wall vent being pushed open, and a Tajaka enter the room, it slowly moved around the the top of the wall, getting in a better position to drop down on the back of him.
The first he knew of the creatures presence was when it's three prehensile limbs tried to latch on to him, fortunately his reactions were quicker and he turned the laser sharpener over his shoulder and straight into the face of the creature killing it in one fluid move. These creatures had not been seen in the city before, something was not right on Traventi and he wanted answers, but first tomorrows game ! . . . .

  1. Nice little "teaser intro" Dave, and it's certainly worked - I'm looking forward to see what's in store for Cragor! :-)

  2. i really like the start and look forward to seeing cragor stories develop through time and with lots of adventures. very brave of you to predict he will live that long and not die along the way? is this being played out with the new skirmish rules, my brother and me are very keen to see these in working operation. it feels like the anticipation for these have been a long time in the brewing. exciting times round the corner.

    1. Thank you Luke, if he's close to Death there's always the healing vats to bring him back from the brink. The DM game will be played with the normal rules, but I'm going to write it in Cragor's perspective as suggested by Andy, then the adventures will use the new skirmish game. If Cragor dies along the way then other characters may take over the lead role. The rules are now finished and have been playtested, just final tweaks and it will be ready. Steve is doing a couple of articles that can be posted on the cupboard just before release highlighting aspects of it and gaming in it. I will be showing my intial playing of it before then as the Cragor story develops

    2. I think that`s the trick Luke mate: there`s a certain `knack` to keeping main protagonists and heroes alive in an ongoing chain of story events. Long, long ago I wrote a lot of tales for GW`s 40K.. about a character called Inquisitor Kryptman, but he was always getting himself into the most terrible fixes and I was never sure episode to episode, article to article whether the guy would literally be torn to pieces or en up a lunatic in an asylum. But the trick is in the game really. If an ongoing NPC should bite the dust in a game.. just wangle things behind the scenes so when that Tyranid tears off your guys arm and beats him over the head with the soggy end, always have a way out! The medics get to him in time, stem the crimson flow and replace his limb with a bionic one.. all in the nick of time, pheww!!. Perhaps our guy gets blown to pieces when a frag grenade gets lobbed into the lift shaft with him - Boom!! No way out there is there? But wait, at the last moment, our hero spun round and was able to deflect the main blast with that wall panelling which he tore from the floor at the last moment and used as a shield hehe. These slight adjustments to the rules dont even need to take place in game, but are the acceptable adjudications of a game host between adventures. Helps a lot when it comes to keeping favourite characters alive Luke *wink*
    3. As Steve say's you can always guide the narrative, but if there is no way out Cragor will meet his end and someone else will take the reigns so to speak

  3. Love this start Dave mate. It makes me want more (just like Jez manages to do in his tales of the Black Museum). Cragor sure is warming up to become an interesting character and the slight hint of a conspiracy is delicious... a new X Files in the making.

    {{"something was not right on Traventi and he wanted answers,"}}

Ooooh I love it, I love it.

    1. Thank's Steve, if he survives this next outing I have a feeling he may join a hunter pack to find out what's effecting the local fauna, as this would be the easiest role for him to go into and help find answers, but he's got to survive the next 24 hours first !

    2. Oooooh and double Ooooooh!!!

That`s it want more ** lines up with Dave G, complete with placard and starts lobbying for "WE WANT MORE" **
  4. This is what I affectionately call "a tasty teaser" as it tells you just enough to whet the appetite, but doesnt give you enough to fill you up. I expect lots more Dave and I want it all now ROTF, you`ve done it now, you`ve gone got me all interested.

    So, when`s the next part?

    1. Thank's Dave hopefully in the next couple of weeks as I've got to cast his opponent ( I think you'll like him !) and if he's not painted will play with unpainted model ( Shock Horror) to keep the flow going

    2. >>chuckles<< Nowt wrong with using unpainted minis Dave. Anyone who says differently has obviously never regularly attended and played games at club meets {otherwise no games would ever get played if that `precious` attitude prevailed} LOL.

Good to see you champion the true cause.
    3. Indeed ! LOL it's a mindset that I'm trying to break out of as it was drummed into me for 5 years at GW that everything had to be painted before going on the table, then with the business it was easier to show a painted version so people knew what to expect if they ordered painted. So trying to break the habit ! LOL

  6. The pucture threw me initially, as I was yrying to work out why Cragor was using a Magic Marker on his blade...lol

Very interesting teaser of what's to come. And the way Cragor dealt so easily with the Tajaka just underlines why he is so effective in the arena. Nice work, Dave.

    1. Thank's Jez, thought a laser that was pen shaped would be the easiest to manoeuvre when sharpening.
His lucky shot was most fortunate, as once the Tajaka had a full lock on him it would have been lights out for poor Cragor

  7. does anyone here know anything about N.E.W. the sci-fi rpg game, is it stand alone? Seems like it would work nicely with all the dm miniatures.
