KEEP MOVING FORWARD

I haven't actually completed anything for today's post, but moved on a couple of steps with my Rebel Transporter. Last time I showed the start of the panelling on the tail section, next I needed to cap the end piece the edge was done in a single piece, as there was plenty of area on the flat sides, I didn't have to hold it with any pins. I then capped the end and two sides, again being flat and no curves to deal with no pins were needed.

Next up is the top crest, being a heavy curve, it needed to be done in stages again, so once I'd cut all the panels required out of 0.5 mm plasticard I glued the first edge on and let set hard.

This time I've put the pins through the plasticard to hold it in place while the glue sets, and will fill the holes and blend the edge when this is dry.

We are now at the half way point of this years challenge, and below is the list of all this years participants, and what they've shown so far, there are a couple more participants since I last listed them, and don't worry if you haven'[t posted anything yet as you still have all of August to post your entry.

A PLANET WITH TWIN SUNS

Apparently in the Star Wars universe that doesn't narrow it down, but for me I mean Tatooine, there are many bits of scenery I would like for this planet, but first today I have a couple of Tusken Raider huts, this increases my number to 3 for the moment, but I will probably do more later on so I can have a big encampment for them, so why suddenly do these, well my daughter ordered me some more Tusken's as a thank you, so thought it would be a good idea to work on their scenery in readiness for them to arrive.

Now this isn't the big scenery piece for Star Wars I mentioned in a previous post, any long standing followers may recall a few Christmas's ago my wife got me the old Palitoy Rebel Transporter to recreate this scene.

When we last left this project I'd got this far, as it was missing the front and rear hatches I'd built them to more the shape in the film, with fibreglass and filler.

The next stage was to build the tail section up, the first stage to get the shape I used dense foam, to get all the relevant shapes in it. I used three pieces, the central piece was 20 mm thickness and the two sides were 10 mm thickness.

Next I wanted to get the panel lines in, for this I used 0.5 mm thickness Plasticard, as it is easier to bend, once I had cut all the relevant pieces, I glued them on the straight edge with no more nails and left to dry hard.

To achieve the top bend I needed a way to hold them in place while the glue set hard, I did this with paper clips pushed into the foam. Lesson learned here was don't put the clips in straight as the card can push past, but put them in at a 45 degree angle.

That's as far as I've got so far, now need to start tidying it all up, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

DON'T BUG ME

Well the last few days have been a bit hectic, with real life issues so no new scenery finished or vehicles, but luckily my next adventurer only needed a 10 minute session to finish her off. Species name I've gone for Mantalid, and is going to be my ships medic, as you really need one of those if your crew has a chance of surviving. I've put lots of pouches for medical supplies on her, and also given her a blaster in a holster for range attacks, for close combat I think her rending claws should do the trick ! LOL

As you can see she is a total green, no other materials used other than the wire frame to start with, and a piece of plasticard to start the basis of her medical scanner. This now makes 5 members of the crew, I've already started a Cyborg, and I've an idea for a sniper, just need to come up with 3 more crew, any ideas what else I should include ? That's all for this small post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

STORM WARNING

While I plug away at finishing my Star Wars scenery piece, I've decided to try and get some more of my Night Hawk Landspeeders finished, todays one is my second Tsunami one.

But Gw don't do a Tsunami Landspeeder Dave, and you'd be right these are of my own invention, this one I've armed with twin Plasma Cannons, as I look as their role as Tank hunters or bunker busters. To denote this one as Sargant of the squadron, I added a skull to the imperial eagle, and painted it red. Below is a picture of it with the first one I did.

Like the two speeding past the trees, it would be a cool scene for a sci-fi movie ! LOL That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

OUT OF THE WOODS

Or it should read, I'm out of woods, as I've now finished my cobbled together piece as well. This was made with an MDF base that I made, and used a couple of branches from the GW woods, some old trees, that I had, with the leaves from the GW woods, and also a couple of bottle brush trees, to act as small bushes.

For the colours I've gone for midway between the two previous woods, just to give it it's own identity, but still tie into the others as well. With the completion of this piece, I've got one old piece of scenery left to do, that's a big one, and plenty of vehicles, so I will be moving onto these, while I chip away at the scenery piece, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

A YING TO MY YANG

For the second of the two GW woods I had I wanted a darker tone to the whole piece so came up with this

I used darker flocks on the base, darker colours on the trees foliage, rocks and even added some green glaze to the rocks and fallen tree branches, the flock I used is for marshland, just to help create two wood that had a different feel to them, even though they are the same model. While doing this set I found that the red contrast paint, covers yellow completely, hence I then had to drybrush orange and yellow over the leaves instead of the quick version last time, plus I kept knocking the leaves off again ! LOL I have another wood which has been made from various bits, but I want to tie it to these two pieces, so we'll see how that goes, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

A CHANGE IN SCENERY

As in no scenery in todays post, as the second set of GW wood has been driving me nuts, so I had a break and painted Ceri, my Sepiipoda Tech, Iy was a quick model to paint, managed it in a day, and was lots of fun trying to use the reference colours.

Below is the reference pictures, so you can see what I was aiming for.

Below you can see Ceri with Bob, as the team starts to build, I'm going for a real all shapes and sizes theme, as you will see as the group expands.

That's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !

CAN'T SEE THE WOOD FOR THE TREES

Today I have finally finished the GW wood that I got as a Christmas present, at least 16 years ago. What was the delay on painting this you ask, I got fed up with knocking the leaves off, I had the same problem this time round, so elected where possible, to bend the limbs, to give a second point of anchorage, to try and make them more stable.

For the colours I've gone for an Autumnal palette this was achieved, with contrast paint over a basecoat of yellow, and then individual leaves picked out with red and orange wash. Another major thing I did was cover all the sculpted grass points on the base with flock, as this gave a more natural look. That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR

Todays scenery piece is another model from scotiagrendel with their Demonic Alter this time. I got this model the same time as the throne, and again I started overthinking the piece, I vaguely remember thinking about making the demons look more Slaaneesh, thankfully I've just gone with painting it now.

I added a little glow effect to the runes on top of the altar, as if it was midsummon and then went with a classic red for the demons, and this is the last piece of scenery from this company I needed to paint, next onto some old GW scenery pieces, if they ever stop falling apart. We have had some more people join in this years challenge the list is now so:

joesavestheday

lostdamnedstunted

angrypiper

justneedsvarnish

tllw Has made some great progress on his ambitious ACW scenery project

kuribospainting Got his first two pieces posted up

pmpainting

azazelx

rantingsfromunderthewargamestable

convertordie

doubledowndice Added to his impressive dungeon tiles with new corridors and rooms.

dagreenhorde

caveadsum1471

spacedinosaurminis

I've also created another little character this one will be my scout and do forward recon, I present Bodil, who is a Sanvesper species, I've equipped him with two pistol blades, so he can both shoot and do some silent work.

Hopefully I can get the three characters moulded this week, and then onto some painting, when the scenery is driving me mad ! LOL Got a few other ideas for the group, but if you have suggestions would love to hear them. So until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave
