WHAT'S COMING ! "

So I'm going away for a few days Tauntaun riding, I wish ! But likely to be as cold as the ice fields of Hoth, so I shall be leaving you in Steve's very capable hands, and I know he has something very cool to show you while I'm away.
In the mean time I thought you might like to see some of the new models were currently developing.
First up are two bulks, these are the brute force of the Techno Ancients, these models will come with separate hands so you can easily change from the basic model to a gladiator version just by adding parts from the weapons pack. Also there will be grey's that ride on their shoulders as an optional extra as well.
Next is the first of two Traventi servants were working on, the arms are a separate piece so we will be doing some more variations on this and the second body
The male Creminisci is now finished as well
Last but not least is a new animal for the wilds of Traventi the Grice, this is the male version and will be doing a female and gricelets as well to add to this new fauna
That's it from me for now as I go and start to wrap up warm, until next time HAVE FUN !

Cheers Dave

  1. Merry, merry seasonal greetings to all and each, and I hope you are all feeling in the festive spirit *hic* Actually don`t drink... except on Christmas Day itself... and only then, chilled Cava: but I do like to see others happy and imbibing the juice, as it were.

Dave the new minis are looking absolutely fabulous mate. I really enjoyed our many long talks back and forth in mail about the Techno Ancient`s army of Brutes, how they would fit into the world ethos and exactly what form they should take. The end result is mighty, and I`m absolutely delighted by your finished sculpts. The exchangeable hands thing was a stroke of genius, and will make the piece(s) that much more customisable and useful for the games.

But it is with the first of the two new Traventi servants that I find myself extremely excited about. For me, the new rules are more about role play (rpg) than skirmish.. although the rules are either, or and can be mixed together at will, but when I see servants, I start thinking Gormenhghast, Aladdin`s Palace, and al the court intrigue of any good fantasy or sci-fi (or science fantasy) setting. Its not just the muscle boys that bring a god game alive, its all those ancillary characters and npc who really breathe life into our fictional worlds. The WIP you show here is awesome and fell in love with this model the moment I saw it.

The Creminisci intrigue me and I can`t wait to get `stuck in` using them in my games. Nice work there Tar`... and v-e-r-y lovely work there Dave.

As for the Grice.. wow, WHAT a monster. What a beast. And theres a wife too (Oooh she`s just gotta be called a G`wice) and little baby gricelettes too, this just gets cooler and cooler.

Great post mate, and hey.... wrap up warm and have an absolutely AMAZING time away.

I`ll keep the boat afloat while you`re gone, with a few game AAR deviations of my own hehe.

    1. Cheers mate, know how much you've been wanting servants, now I've got the first set of arms finished will be able to crack on with the male as the arms will be interchangeable between the male and female.
So much more to show with the Techno Ancients as We've got the . . . ( muffled screams) LOL

  2. best posting in ages because it is so full of future promise. i like the servant best as well and would like to see the other one too. servants are like furniture and dustbins, always over looked and never enough set up in a game. all the new miniatures shown this post are good and i think this is possibly some of dave`s best work yet. what also got me happy and excited is dave`s hint, and then steve on his comment above mine, more AAR`s to come. i come to blogs mostly for those as endless postings showing latest painted miniatures bores me a bit when its all the time. when i hear there will soon be an AAR, it makes me feel suddenly happy and excited. have a good time away dave and happy seasonal greetings.

    1. Thank's Luke, want to keep all the visitors to the cupboard up to date on how things are developing as were showing everything to do with DM and the new skirmish here first. Yes there are more AAR's to come and on several topics so watch this space.
Thank's for the well wishes and I hope to tick one of the things on my bucket list off on this trip. Hope you and your family have a great Xmas, although I will be back live before then

  3. The promise of a good AAR will always root me out of my winter badger set and self induced seasonal hibernation. Bring it on. Like Luke, these are the things bring me out from my leafy lair, make me stuck my head out of the ground and take note what`s going on LOL.

Dave, this latest batch of WIP`s, sculpts and casts is very tasteful, and proves something important to me. I recently read someone (on another rather trivial blog) say you had a thing or two to learn about sculpting. I remember at the time thinking how much this pissed me off. Well I said nothing, and didnt need to. You have readily proven here by actions alone that you know your stuff, and somewhat puts the words of that `other` person to ridiculous shame. Excellent work.

    1. Hi Dave, good to see you out of hibernation, hoped the Bulks might lure you out, I now know to use the summoning power of an AAR ! LOL
Glad you like the latest batch of greens, people are always entitled to their opinion, but it will never stop me from sculpting models I want to build, or from my views on not over sexulising the female form

and THAT`S why you have a lovely beautiful wife David, and don`t just need to imagine 28mm painted ones. You know how to respect women xx.

This is simply AMAZINGLY cool. No.. hot! These new figures are so hot. Best I`ve seen yet I think. I can`t quite say which is my favourite so I`ll stick with just saying I love and want them all. Thank you for continuing to support and inspire one of the most interesting, unique and unusual games to hit the hobby for a long time.

  5. I confess I always smile when I see someone mention the word Gormenhgast. I honestly think any hobby fantasy lover should check out this classic British author - Mervyn Peake. I smile always because when I think of this game world: the Traventi, Vallatrix and the rest, I know its nothing like the Titus books, but in tone it is EXACTLY that thing, to me anyway. The servants, the intrigue, and the interwoven plots and story arc.

The more models for this world of yours you make Dave, the more I see Gormenghast, in it depth of narration and stark quiescent (timeless) beauty.

    A really lovely article.

    1. Thank's Hils, there seems to be a lot less models available for effectively standers by, for many games, want to avoid that for this one so people have the complete option for their games in this world

  6. As I've had rather a hectic day, whilst I read the post earlier, I've only just had a chance to comment. As these figures have been hinted at or mentioned before, it's good to see them in the 'green'.

The male Creminisci looks like he'd have no problem lifting an X-Wing out of a swamp and the Bulks look suitable imposing. I love the servant too - so many options for the contents of the tray. But my favourite is the Grice and I don't think I need to explain why... 😉

Hope you have a wonderful break and come back all relaxed and refreshed.

    1. Thanks Jez shall try, thought you would like the Grice after all they were your idea plus you got to see them before being shown here.
Glad you like the pose of the Creminisci as eventually would like to make some psychic effects to add to him

    1. Hi Phil, lovely to see you here as always mon ami. Yes Dave`s new WIPS sure are looking lovely aren`t they.
  8. Now I`ve seen the Creminisci first hand (himself has two of them on his paint table right now) I am quite taken by this male and female pair. I look forward next to seeing the neutral sex Null, which completes the three sex/class tier symbiosis.

Likewise, Jez`s Grice looks mighty impressive, even at its initial WIP stage. I also note that Stevie is currently working on two of Jez`s desert nomads, the fighter and the priestess: they look to be shining nicely, and will to become rather special once finished I think.

    1. Yeah, I`m looking forward to putting them in my next game Hils love, so I have 7 new models to paint up before the next DM world AAR. Can`t wait to see them ready based and being used.
    2. I think Dave needs the lion's share of the credit for the Grice. I just came up with idea and the name (Grice being an extinct Iron Age wild pig that were common in Scotland), whilst he transformed my vague ramblings of "a big, evil looking pig-thing" into something rather special. I now have available the perfect model for 'The Black Pig of Awdry Gardens'. Big smiles from Jez.

      Now...where's my murderous ape? 😉
  9. This lityle piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed at home,
This little piggy ate roast beef, (apparently - which is a bit weird),
And this little piggy had none,
And this BIG piggy went on a rampage through Victorian London...

For he was a bad, BAD piggy.
