" YOU'LL NEVER FIND A MORE WRETCHED HIVE OF SCUM AND VILLAINY"

Continuing from my last article, I have been making some slow progress towards my target goal of building a small part of Mos Eisley or Mos Espa, as both places have a similar look.

Adding to my droid collection this week I've painted a silver Protocol Droid and a red R2 unit.. which you can see pictured. I've also started making an R5 unit and power droid that I will show at a later date. Because I want multiples, I will cast them so I can paint up several variations.

"AH DO THAT AGAIN"

Now I know I used this title last time but it's the most fitting for anything related to the Max Reebo band, of which I have finished two new additions. First is Droopy McCool and the second is Rappertunie the Shawda Ubb!

 "IT'S A TRAP"

Next up is another vehicle to add to the growing motor pool. This is actually another Revell kit of the TIE Interceptor. The scale isn't 100% but its still close enough for my liking. I need to find some more of these kits (ones that are close in scale.. like a shuttle Tyderium) so will keep looking, fingers crossed.

"DASH RENDAR"

Having decided that I want my adventures to centre around Dash and his trusty robot LEEBO, I've set myself a very large challenge: build a model of his ship the Outrider including the internal structure, so I can game inside as well. From the picture shown you can see a lot of the internal panels duplicate, so will make up a few simple masters, then cast the amount needed.

The first step will be to layout a base piece, and then work from there. You will also notice that there is a little ship called the Gadfly on the left hand side which I will build as well.

If anyone has any reference pictures of this vehicle it would be very useful.

"POKEY RELIGIONS"

Last piece today is Diala Passil the `wanna be` Jedi from the Imperial Assault core game (in the game she wields a painted vibro plasteel pole, which she handles almost as proficiently as a `true Jedi` uses a light-sable). The only alteration I did on this one, was replace the light sabre with a coloured clear acrylic rod to give a better effect for the weapon.

Having taken stock of how big a project this is going to be, I need to find some good basic human models that are in the right scale, and will fit into the Star Wars realm with very little work.

If anyone has some suggestions please pop them in to the comments.

Until Next time have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Droopy McCool and Rappertunie the Shawda Ubb are simply fantastic WIPs Dave. At the moment I`m using an early Sy Snootles (before she meets the band) working lone with a few Twi Lek pole dancers... spoilers, all things to come in my forthcoming AAR article. I worked on finishing off Sy (and a stage) for Hils, and I`m happy enough with the results. But oh man, I gotta get my hands on your other band members, they`re highly cool dude.

The TIE Interceptor is to die for... as I`m sure many will if they come up against that Imperial beast. Its magnificent. Nice work Dave.

the Outrider is going to be a tricky piece to build Dave, I don`t think I envy you on this one *gulp*

Really nice to see Diala Passil coming along nicely. She`s probably my favourite character from the Imperial Assault core game (no not the Wokie haha). I like the way you`ve customised her `look alike` steel pole to look like a light sabre. Its in keeping, and something I feel she would do. In her desperate search for her old family sabre heirloom, this quixotic Jedi WOULD try to make her home made weapon look as much like a light sabre as possible.

  2. .... OR like Dave has done, have Diala Passil painted as she would be AFTER she`s completed the campaign side quest mission, and found her grandfather`s old light sabre.

I too like your Droopy McCool and Rappertunie. They are perfect, and will really make any cantina in game cameo setting come alive beautifully.

R2 in red looks suitably stylish. I`ve always liked the iconic R2 units, and there are so many cool variations to chose from.

The TIE fighter is simply lovely. And makes me more determined than ever in my pursuit of one day owning FFG`s X Wing game lol. Make a nice addition to Imp Assault and EotE.

    Great post Dave.

    1. Thanks Hils, thought it would be cool to show her as a Jedi, although I want to rework her skin after seeing how she looks in the photo.
The band is slowly coming together.
Can never have too many R2's is my thought as you see so many in background shots in the films.
As for X wing it is an area I will look at once I've finished this very large project ! LOL

    2. I want mine hanging from the ceiling on clear fishing line. I must start practising my homemade sound effects (much to the wife`s amusement no doubt).
    3. Now that brings back fond memories, I must admit that once I've finished building a flyer you have to give it a test flight to get a feel before painting

  4. Thanks Steve, the band is something I've been wanting to do for some time. The next one Max I will be working on solely as he has a lot of detail. Looking forward to reading your AAR.
The TIE interceptor was my favourite TIE with its aggressive look so had to have one.
The Outrider is indeed an ambitious project but could be a glorious centre piece, or an epic fail, only time will tell.
Glad you liked the alteration to Diala, wanted to play with some OSL with a lite sabre in readiness to tackle Darth

hmm, try Sally 4th. They do seated patrons and spectators for their Jousting game. I think they`d be ideal for your needs, and come in sets of 12, if I recall rightly.

    1. That`s EXACTLY what I`ve been using, and have been painting and converting them this week. I got mine years ago, but never found the right use for them.. until now. Was just waiting for an excuse to do them all up. These will also appear in the coming AAR *shhhhh!! more spoilers* ^^
    2. Thanks Dave and Steve I will check them out

  6. You guys are amazing. where do you get the time to make all this stuff. you make me feel so lazy. no, not lazy, apathetic. I want to do things like you do, but I only sit and plan and think and it never gets anywhere. you make my head explode with excitement when I read all this kind of thing and see so many inspiring pictures.

    1. Luke sweetie. What you describe is a problem for many game hobbyists I think, and the bane of many a great idea, which simply never sees fruition. I think the key is to limit yourself to one or even two (three maximum) main interests, and focus on these to the exclusion of all other nice shiny new things that come along and temp you, as temp you they will. Devote your time to realistic projects, and you WILL see results. But like learning to play a musical instrument to a reasonable standard: it takes some considerable discipline, effort, and lots of time focused on sticking to a plan.
    2. Thanks Luke, if we inspire you to pick up a brush or start a modelling project, then we've achieved our goal by inspiring others.
A lot of my projects get done in between work projects. If I've got a spare bit of green I may block out an area or add a detail, it soon means the projects finished

    3. LOL, says the an who runs his own business, works flat out, never stops, and STILL finds time for making progress with him leisure time hobby projects. Listen to the force Luke, Dave will guide your way.
    4. that would have sounded better without typos LOL
    5. ROFL Hils, it is a balancing act but with a little self discipline anything is possible. A good mindset is always a great place to start, make a small change to begin with then add to it. So instead of watching that second tv episode think I'm going to start that project. Just go careful and end up still sat there at 4 in the morning with work that day ! LOL

    6. your words are right Hils, thank you very much. You make it so simple really when I hear it put that way, and I know every word is true. Thanks too Dave, your work here inspires me. You all do in fact, very much.

  10. I'm actually quite glad that I've got my own project to focus on, as it's enabling me to remain strong in the face of all this Star Wars coolness.

Very nice work on the band members and there's no such thing as too many R2 units. Or R's 1 through 4.

Good luck with your build - of both the ship and the town. Tatooine is my favourite Star Wars location, mainly because of the Jawas.

Regarding figures, the Adventurers and Civilian packs from Moonraker Miniatures' Spacelords range may suit, as they're nicely generic enough to fit in to the SW universe without too much alteration. And as rhey work out at £1.50 a figure, preety good value too. Ooooh and eM-4 Miniatures plastic orcs, which are 21p each, would make good proxy Gamorreans with a little tweaking.

  14. Thank you Michael, the build is in the planning stage at the moment , to limit mistakes that would be time consuming and costly. Plus it's taking a while to find as much information as possible, as I've already found four discrepancies on the above blueprint compared to the X wing model
