Or it should read, I'm out of woods, as I've now finished my cobbled together piece as well. This was made with an MDF base that I made, and used a couple of branches from the GW woods, some old trees, that I had, with the leaves from the GW woods, and also a couple of bottle brush trees, to act as small bushes.
For the colours I've gone for midway between the two previous woods, just to give it it's own identity, but still tie into the others as well. With the completion of this piece, I've got one old piece of scenery left to do, that's a big one, and plenty of vehicles, so I will be moving onto these, while I chip away at the scenery piece, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
These turned out great, Dave! I've always liked the forest scenery models, but your little additions & tie in's with painting make them even more realistic!
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, wasn't a fan of the leaves when I did them green, but liked doing the Autumnal colours a lot more, and the end results so was the right call for me in the end ! LOL
DeleteA solid third piece! Very nicely done Dave!
ReplyDeleteWhat's next?
Thank you Dai, only took 16 years ! LOL I've got some vehicles I'd like to get finished, while working on an old Star Wars scenery project I'd like to get finished, but you never know with me, I may get distracted and build something totally different ! LOL
DeleteThese are all quite nice, Dave. I was unaware that GW did a woods set, although I have the old jungle-style trees from the 40K boxed set that was released with the Dark Eldar (that was a long time ago). As I recall, those fit together fine, so someone else must have taken over the design for these. As always, top-notch work!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, I still have some of those old trees, I think they were given to me by a friend, as he saw I'd already built mine, and yes they had a solid lug system on them, the problem with the woods was the plastic is thin and weak at the connection, so easily snaps, a bit like the Eldar and Dark Eldar top knots, thankfully I have a pinvice ! LOL
DeleteThat looks really good Dave and fits very nicely with the other two! :-) I much prefer your base to the two GW ones! A quick question - can I count landing craft and boats for the Season of Scenery challenge? If they do count it doesn't automatically mean I'll get some finished but it might prompt me to get something done on them!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, I think the biggest difference with mine is no skulls ! LOL Of course you can mate, as they are both vehicles, and I include vehicles.
DeleteYou did a great job, they practically look like official GW products!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, using some GW parts helped tie the look across this piece, but to be an official GW piece would need a minimum of 5skulls on it ! LOL
DeleteOh man, I could never get along with bottle brush trees. Something about them always looks strange to me. But that’s just my thing.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the base, and all three tree bases go really well together. 😀
Thank you Stewart, I know what you mean, I think it is the uniformity of them that doesn't look natural, did find a way of making them look more natural, by cutting chunks out of them, then adding more flock to the cut out spots, but as these were being bushes I left them. Glad you all think they tie together well, as that was my intention.
DeleteYou did a great job repurposing those tree bits, Dave. This latest set of trees would work perfectly as an "edge of the forest" type of terrain piece next to the ones you've already completed. Of course, it works just as well plopped down anywhere on the table too. I'll be curious to see what you tackle next as it sounds like it will be a change of pace, if nothing else!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, you know what they say variety is the spice of life, unless were talking about ladies, then just stick to the one ! LOL You are not wrong on your assessment of the trees, so hopefully they will get plenty of use.
DeleteGreat use of all the extra left-over bits and pieces and as equally good as the other twopieces. - stillloving the autumn colours and their variations.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, extra bits are where the fun really begins ! LOL I love Autumn with all the different colour in the trees, can't believe I never thought of painting my trees in these colours before ! LOL
