Todays scenery piece is another model from scotiagrendel with their Demonic Alter this time. I got this model the same time as the throne, and again I started overthinking the piece, I vaguely remember thinking about making the demons look more Slaaneesh, thankfully I've just gone with painting it now.
I added a little glow effect to the runes on top of the altar, as if it was midsummon and then went with a classic red for the demons, and this is the last piece of scenery from this company I needed to paint, next onto some old GW scenery pieces, if they ever stop falling apart. We have had some more people join in this years challenge the list is now so:
tllw Has made some great progress on his ambitious ACW scenery project
kuribospainting Got his first two pieces posted up
rantingsfromunderthewargamestable
doubledowndice Added to his impressive dungeon tiles with new corridors and rooms.
I've also created another little character this one will be my scout and do forward recon, I present Bodil, who is a Sanvesper species, I've equipped him with two pistol blades, so he can both shoot and do some silent work.
Hopefully I can get the three characters moulded this week, and then onto some painting, when the scenery is driving me mad ! LOL Got a few other ideas for the group, but if you have suggestions would love to hear them. So until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
A literal Batman! Love the work on this new little feller.
ReplyDeleteThe altar is very nice Dave! Far prefer this piece over the throne previously posted. With the daemons each end it has a Labyrinth (the film) feel and by that I mean the mirror and it's guardians that Sarah encounters as she tries to get through the maze.
Thank you Dai, indeed, maybe in a game I could have him say " I'm Batman" ! LOL
DeleteI always felt the demons were a little squished, but it will do fine for a scenery piece, and glad to have finally got it painted, only took 15 years ! LOL
Nice job on the alter. I always wondered how cults got such things. Custom order from a furniture company or do cults recruit skilled labor. 😀
ReplyDeleteNice list of folks doing the challenge. I know many of them.
Thank you Stewart, probably got a piece from one person , and then another from another person, so they don't know what they're building ! LOL Plus never good having all the elements in one place until you have a professional to control them ! ROFL
DeleteI think this year is the biggest sign up so far, and one is new to me, but not to you.
The altar has a classic feel to it and it looks great painted up. Bodil looks really nice as well. I like the way you've incorporated the wings as human-like arms on him.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, I did consider having blood splatter across the top of the altar, but thought it would get lost in the glow, so just went with the glow. The wing idea is one I've been toying with for some time, the first attempt was on the Dragonkin, but like the difference I got in this one.
DeleteOh, that piece looks terrific! The glowing effect is super interesting, it adds a whole new level to the model!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, as the demons are emerging from the altar, it felt like the ritual was in full effect, so a magic glow would help sell the story.
DeleteNice work again Dave, on both the scenery and the sculpt! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you John, I went for a couple of quick pieces on the scenery while starting the bigger stuff at the same time. Having fun with the sculpts.
DeleteGreat looking scenic piece, did you alter the Altar in any way ?
ReplyDeleteNew bat-sculp thing looks very interesting too.
Thank you Joe, the altar, had no converting this is what the model normally looks like.
DeleteHe's just a little batty ! LOL
Dave, that altar is worthy of a sacrifice to the Dark Gods! I love the glow effect and how that scroll seems to have been written on with blood. The daemons look great in red too!
ReplyDeleteYour new sculpt is amazing but also a bit of a coincidence as I've just painted a Reaper mini that looks a lot like it LOL!
Thank you Matt, the writing was already etched into the scroll so I painted it deep red first, then painted the scroll around it, as a nod to Evil Dead 3, and the glow is something I'm still trying to perfect, so will keep trying on that.
DeleteThere is always a lot of bat creatures in Sci-Fi, Doctor Who had one, it's why I mexed multiple bat features to have a varience in there.
That altar is another nice piece. I like that glow green effect you added to the top of it. The new mini looks great too, I especially like the way the wings are stretching. Plus you can never go wrong with blades! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, I would like to improve my glow effect so will keep trying new things to get better, but happy with this piece overall. Indeed blades are silent, deadly in the right hands, and never run out of ammo ! LOL
DeleteTop work on the Demonic Altar, Dave. The red demons and glowing iconography are excellent, and really make it pop as a piece. I love all the skulls and gold plating too - what a wonderfully colourful piece you've painted. The Bat-like gribbly looks suitably mean for a vampiric assassin too. I think the pose is spot on.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, glad to finally call it finished, as it's been a while ! LOL Just need to stop overthinking these scenery pieces and get them painted. Bodil came out just as I imagined him, which is a bonus, now I just need to sort out what colours to paint him.
DeleteNice looking piece Dave. Love the demons' look - quite evil. As for the scenery challenge, I'll manage to add something by the end!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, just glad to finally have paint on it ! LOL Great to have you on board for another year of the challenge.
