THERE'S A RAT IN THE KITCHEN

There was a couple of cool robots in "The Book of Boba Fett" that I thought would be cool additions to my Jabba's Palace collection, the first was the Rat Catcher, it was a LEP droid, often nicknamed bunny droids, they were first seen in "The Clone Wars" cartoon series, but this was their live action debut.

As you can see from the above picture I had to scratch build this one, as I couldn't find a relevant model.

Next is the kitchen droid, this wasn't the first time this type of droid has appeared either, as it was originally seen in Episode 2 "Attack of the Clones" on the transport Anakin and Padme took to the planet Naboo.

As you can see this is another scratch build, unfortunately I made this one a bit too big, but it will do for now, until I'm ready to try again.

The last one today was a simple head conversion of a protocol droid, which was seen in Gazza Sanctuary ( Gambling and bar for anyone who hasn't seen the series) serving drinks.

No real plans for this one at the moment, but handy to have for future endeavours. That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Seeing the models first, then finding out that they're all scratchbuilds, always amazes me and these have been no different, wonderful sculpts and great representations of their screen counterpaets.

    1. Thank you Joe, never know which is the best way to put the pictures, this way seams to work well for me, as a reveal of this is where it came from and the inspiration.

  2. Amazing sculpts! Wouldn't want to mess with the kitchen droid, haha :D

    1. Thank you Snapfit, in the episode it was a whirlwind of blades, but Fennec snuck behind it and cut it's head off with a laser scalpel and got rid of it before it could do any damage, so the trick is sneak up from behind ! LOL

  3. Excellent scratch builds. Really impressive. 😀

  4. Great stuff mate, and for a change with your Star Wars stuff I actually recognised all three of the characters!

Will you be doing the boxy red droid (I know descriptive stuff eh!) from Andor? and there was an interesting cylinder shaped one in the last episode of "the Bad Batch" too, 😉

Just like to see you busy 😁.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, I don't always build the really obscure ! LOL
No Star Wars character is ever off limits, so you never know what may appear on here, but I can confirm, they are not ones I'm currently working on ! LOL

  5. Your droid collection must be bordering on an "army" by now. I think IG-88 will have enough bodies for his uprising!

Great stuff as always Dave. :)

    1. Thank you Dai, I do have over 50 droids, which could easily be considered an army, but no uprisings yet ! LOL

These are spot on, Dave! :-) I'd never have guessed they were scratchbuilds! I bet the kitchen droid could give a close combat droid a run for its money!

    1. Thank you John, high praise indeed, it's only weak spot is from behind, so pretty good in most combats, glad he's kept in the kitchen ! LOL

  7. Your collection is worth of a Guinness Record, I'm sure of that. Fantastic job as usual, they all are enormously enjoyable.

    1. Thank you Suber, I'm sure there are larger collections out there with what I've seen on the Facebook page, might have them beat on rare characters though ! LOL

  8. These are all great representations of their digital counterparts. There's no doubt that droids have a lot of life and character in Star Wars and so its especially cool to see you making and painting these, Dave. I wonder if it is possible that you'll ever run out of background characters to sculpt yourself. I doubt it personally! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, the personalities have gotten a lot bigger over the years, especially K2 and L3, so you just have to have them in your games. With so many background characters, I think it will be many years before I run out of ones to sculpt ! LOL

  9. Wonderful Dave and thanks for the wip photos as I love seeing how you go about putting them together, only gripe is with the title, as now I will spend the rest of the day with the There's a rat in my kitchen song in my head so thanks for that lol 😊

  10. Hey there, some nice work recreating these droids! We just re-watched the episode with the Rat-Catcher droid. Not my favorite droid, but interesting to see when someone you know also happened to make a mini of them! I didn't recall the kitchen droid in Attack of the Clones, so I will have to keep an eye out for it next time I watch. Nice capture of that protocol droid too, interesting that they basically just did a head swap. The head vaguely reminds me of the surgeon droids.

    1. Thank you Brian, the LEP droids have been around since the Clone Wars, but it was funny it's live action debut was the Rat Catcher ! LOL It's the part when the droid in the kitchen tells R2 no droids as he is getting a meal for Padme and Anakin. A lot of parts get recycled in Star Wars, and the protocol chassis has seen a lot of use, it was a bounty hunter 4-LOM and has been used for lots of different versions of protocol and service droids as well

    2. Oh yea, 4-LOM had a protocol droid's torso! It makes sense, that production/cost wise they would reuse parts, but also just in a real world sense. Star Wars is all about scavenging and scraping by after all!

    3. Indeed, after all IG-88 started life as part of the bar in Mos Eisley ! LOL

  12. Awesome work on all these sculpts, Dave, once again you've made minis that I would think were store-bought. I think the ratcatcher droid is my fave!
