ONE CARFUL OWNER

As many of you will know from previous posts I've been collecting up Vehicles for my Star Wars project, but as yet I haven't done many small vehicles like speeders, there are a few different official ones that have appeared in the numerous films and series, of which I would very much like to have at some point either official models, or 3D prints or scratch built. Todays model isn't an official model but has a suitable look to it to fit in, this was a 3D print I got for Christmas.

Paint wise I went for a bit beat up and well worn, with a heavy amount of dust as well. Was pleased with the end look, so that's all for this post, so until next time, stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Almost looks like an A-Wing from here. I like it!
Still can't jump on board with Filament printing though - those print lines..... yuck

    1. Thank you Dai, it does have a very A-Wing look about it. Have to agree on filament printing, not my favourite, if I ever invest in a printer I'll be going for a resin printer.

    2. Great work, Dave, I especially like the pink hue to the back burners - gives them a real glow like metal does after its been repeatedly exposed to great heat. I actually thought the filament lines were quite good on this print - perhaps with the exception of the cockpit. Resin parts would certainly put an end to that. But in my experience something that large and straight-lined may well cause many a resin printer plates some problems - depending on where the supports need to go.

    3. Thank you Simon, I managed to hide a lot of the lines with how I painted it, as there were some really bad ones on the sides of the front, which I hid under the dust, and the engines had a lot, but managed to hide that with the drybrush. Having never used a printer I will take your word for it, and it will probably be quite a while before I get one ! LOL I do like experimenting with heat blooms, and had many years of trying to combat it on bikes ! LOL

That's come out really nicely, Dave! :-) I like the battered paintwork! And that's a lot of engines for such a small craft! Resin 3D prints are very nice, but for a filament print that looks pretty good to me (and I've got quite a few of both - can't always get the models I want in resin)! One big advantage of filament prints that I've found is that they are very tough and much less likely to be damaged if knocked or dropped.

    1. Thank you John, I thought the battered paint would help cover some of the lines, the engines seem to be in line with the Pod Racers bigger is better ! LOL Have to agree with you on the two types of print the filament is more durable than the resin, unless there was an issue with the printing, as I've had several with broken pieces in the past.

  3. Well, it certainly fits in the aesthetics, so I call this a win! The paintjob of course helps, I love what you did here :)

    1. Thank you Suber, I felt the look fitted well, and glad you like the colours, thought a more colourful pattern would help the shape, and be more interesting than just painting white ! LOL

  4. Yes that looks suitably Star Wars ish. Great job on the painting/weathering. You’d think in the future they would have figured out how to make paint that doesn’t peel…😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. I certainly hope at some point we get paint that doesn't chip ! LOL The colours worked well on a small piece, and the weathering covers a lot of imperfections.

  5. I thought this was an A-wing for a second! The model fits into the Star Wars universe very well, and as Suber says, the paintjob and weathering really matches the aesthetic, especially Rogue One/The Mandalorian. Nicely done, sir!

  7. That is a fantastic looking podracer! You did a great job giving it just the right amount of wear so that it feels like something from Star Wars too. I really like the design of the sculpt and I wish that someone had made minis or models of all the podracers in Episode One. The movie is a stinker but I think the podracing sequence is fun. There was a video game where you raced all of the podracers from the movie that came out around the time of Phantom Menace that was fun for the time too. I wouldn't mind seeing some more podracers in the future, if you have any more kicking around :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, sorry I don't have any Pod Racers, at this moment, but will hopefully have some more speeders this year even if I have to build them ! LOL A Pod Race game setting could be fun as well ! LOL Like I need anymore ideas ROFL But if it's Star Wars related never say never in my book ! LOL

    1. Thank you Mark, I used to hate doing vehicles, and would never think of weathering, so I'm happy with my progress.

  10. Is "One Careful Owner" a reference I'm missing? The ship looks great, nice paints and just enough weathering to give it that realistic look! :)

    1. Thank you Brian, just a play on words with it being a bit beat up, and have seen adverts for used cars where they have looked worse than this ! LOL glad I could get the right look on it.

    1. Thank you Azazael, looked at every speeder I could find a colour scheme for, to get a general feel before adding the paint, and glad I could achieve the right level for the setting.
