THE FASTEST WAY TO TRAVEL

Today I have another piece I've built for my client, a portal. He saw the one I had in my range that was Aztec inspired, and after a brief discussion we went with a new design fitting the environment of Frostgrave. Below you can see the finished piece with the portal activated.

Here are the pictures before I fitted the portal in.

Below are a couple of the details you may not see in the full scale pictures.

Alas poor Yorick lighting the way
Put my heart and soul into this project.

For anyone wanting to see the build here are the construction pictures.

You may have noticed that the outer ring of the portal is a separate piece,  this was so my client could change the symbol depending on what was coming through the portal, fun little thing for gaming. That's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Oh that's terrific, Dave. Nice little touch that it comes in separate pieces so your client can tweak the symbol during gameplay. I'd hope they're super-pleased with that piece. Do you think we'll ever see a pic of all the pieces you've done on your client's table..?

    1. Thank you Simon, really like to do as much as I can on these, as they are custom so fun little touches like moving parts are a must. I've had some pictures already of the bits I've already sent, so hopefully when it's all finished he'll send more.

That's brilliant Dave! :-) The small details are great and the ability to change the portal symbol is really clever!

    1. Thank you John, I like details but don't ever want to overload a piece, which can be a common mistake.

    1. Thank you Suber, the bit that is disappointing for me is the centre of the portal, as it was painted as flames, but the shapes on the front distorted it so you can't see them ! LOL

    1. Thank you Stewart, already had the basic idea, from the Aztec one I produce, just had to find symbols and statues that fitted more with Frostgrave.

  5. This is a very creative and useful piece of terrain for Frostgrave. It is also definitely something worth fighting for control of. Either that or whatever comes out of it will almost certainly need to be killed! I'm glad you started sharing your professional pieces like this as they're really impressive and inspiring.

    1. Thank you Jeff, I've built a few portals before one I never actually finished as that range wasn't selling well, but glad the experience ment I could get this one done for my client, glad you've been enjoying these posts, and they haven't been boring.

  6. That's a great bit of work Dave, did you use form to build it or something else? I know you're very good at sculpting and I see lots of wonderful stuff people have done with form.

    1. Thank you Frank, yes the majority of the piece is made from foam, including the main bulk of the two figures, which were carved from foam, if you look closely in the bottom two pictures, you'll see the bits I made in greenstuff, and you can just about see two of the four cocktail sticks I used to strengthen the arms on each of the figures.

  7. Interesting piece and having optionalinserts into the 'frame' makes it a very versatile scenic piece.

  8. Very cool, Dave - that modularity in the portal types is very cool - I love optional bits that can be swapped in and out!

    1. Thank you Azazael, I like adding optional or moving pieces to add another element to scenery, but only if it adds to the piece.

  9. Wow, didn't realize it was a custom job at first! Thought this was just a mini you had painted up. Nice work and I bet your client will enjoy using this in their games!
