Between my Birthday and Christmas I was very lucky with all the new models I received for my favourite Galaxy Star Wars, and today I have two of those models finished, first is the Tusken Leader that appeared in "The Book of Boba Fett" series, this is a 3D printed model, the cast was really good and the detail lines weren't too shallow. I went for a colour scheme that tied into the rest of my Tusken models rather than the clan that was shown in the series.
Next is a robot that was seen in "Return of the Jedi" torturing a power droid in Jabba's Palace, 8D8 he then appeared again in Jabba's Palace in "The Book of Boba Fett" where is paint had yellowed, and his eyes were now red, I went for the original colour scheme as it fitted my time line better. The model is also a 3D print, that the quality was very good.
So that's two more for the challenge done, I really need to finish some of the old projects, but the new models are calling my name, so we will have to see how I get on during the challenge, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Nice painting there, I agree it's probably better to tie the raider into your own clan, I loved that scene where 8D8 is torturing the power droid, it makes no sense, why would the poser droid have heat sensors on its feet! 🤣🤣🤣 Just reprogram it.
ReplyDeleteBesides who can help but like a robot with Matt Berry's voice!
Cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, as all my Tusken's were painted in the original colour scheme it made sense to me, just gave me a chief model to have as well. Indeed made no sense, but will have to make that scene at some point to add to my palace, and the kitchen.
DeleteThese are brilliant, Dave, the Tusken Leader particularly so! :-) He's definitely one of my favourites of all the Star Wars figures you've painted!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, was a relatively easy colour scheme to paint, which is lucky as I still need to do some more when I find some different sculpts ! LOL
DeleteI've been desperately resisting all the new Star Wars related STLs which suddenly seem to have been making an appearance. But there are an insane amount of terrific sculpts out there currently, and these two are a good example of them. Nice brushwork and I especially like the eyes on the droid - as they are spot on to that pic from Jedi.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, There are so many 3D prints out there I would like to get, especially some of the vehicles I've been unable to find elsewhere, hopefully in time, I will get more. Had to go the original route, as I need the droid torture room at some stage ! LOL
DeleteThe quality of 3D prints continues to amaze me and these two are superb examples f such,. your painting brings them very close to the film versions too, so they'll be instantly recoognisable to SW fans,.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, I have definitely seen an improvement over the last couple of years, some depends on the sculptor, and some the type of printer used, but moving in the right direction. For me it's like painting historicals, and want them to look right against the reference material.
DeleteHappy newyear Dave, I always found that scene of the hot irons on the androids feet funny & a little confusing :) nice work as always & staying away from the new stuff while the older pile grows is a cross we all have to bare lol
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, and Happy New Year to you to mate. You're not wrong the whole scene is very strange but funny at the same time ! LOL Luckily the old pile is down to 10 mutants, and a ship (If I don't count the Night Hawks ! LOL) but still need to get a new raider and make 6 new beasts to finish the Dark Eldar.
DeleteGreat Painting Dave - hasn't 3D printing come on, these look fantastic figures!
ReplyDeleteThank you Justin, indeed it has, the Resin Printers eliminate the horrible lines you would see with a filament printer, which is great, and the detail is getting better as the sculptors add a little more depth to the details to make it easier to find once printed.
DeleteI think the Tusken chief looks better in your colour scheme. Really nice print.
ReplyDeleteTorture droid is indeed silly - but he exists in a silly setting overall, so I think he's perfect! (I shudder to imagine his torture techniques on a living being!)
Thank you Dai, I can see why they chose to change the colours to easily show it was a different tribe, but still prefer the original.
DeleteIndeed it is, with his speech in the book of Boba Fett, it could be he bores them to death ! LOL
These look great, Dave and its fantastic to see you painting Star Wars again. I have to be honest that I'd never see a sculpt for that droid who does very little in Return of the Jedi but I love to see it all the same. He belongs in your Jabba's Palace project now that I think about it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, I have missed working on this project, even though getting close to finishing another 3 armies has been rewarding, this is my true passion. At some stage I really need to make the droid torture room, and adjoining cells, plus the kitchen, ah the list is endless ! LOL
DeleteYou do need the torture room and kitchen has a lot of potential to use your imagination too. When you get done with Jabba's Palace, I've got a few more ideas for you to try out too.... ;)
DeleteLOL mate, is that before or after the cantina, and the Imperial Outpost on Tatooine !LOL
DeleteNice! Great finds and they look good! I love that droid and it was funny to see him again in the Book of Boba Fett series!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, my eldest daughter found them for me, it was cool to see him again in the series, as it's not a common robot in the franchise.
