I've got another piece of Frostgrave scenery I've built for my customer to show today, I'll apologise in advance as there are no construction pictures, this is due to having to paint so much as pieces before sticking it all together, but if anybody has questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
My customer wanted an abandoned store room, but left the the details of which to me, I've made it so the doors move, which adds to the playability, and made a block and tackle to show how they would have got stores up to the second level, I also included a ladder so in game play it was easy enough for models to get to the second floor.
As is customary I've added some fun details, you may have noticed the carnivorous bird footprints above. Below is a barrel with snow drift around it, and up in the rafters is a bat, that could be hibernating, or just frozen to the spot.
On the ground floor are remnants of the stores contents, a crate in one corner and a barrel and sack that has been opened by the rat, and an empty one that could possibly have a rat inside it or it's just bunched up.
That's all for this post, I haven't included this in my challenge tally, as it was for work, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
That is really nice, Dave! :-) The small details add a lot more interest to the building. I like the wide open doorway and one wall missing, makes it very accessible to players/minis but still presents an obstacle and provides cover.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, as it's for a customer, I try to make as much accessible as possible so that you can game over most of the piece, and love adding little details that can add a lot to the story of a piece.
DeleteAs John says, a nice design with playability in mind and also looks nifty on the tabletop! Another good addition to your client's collection.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, I always like to give my clients great scenery to look at and also be able to game over easily, his table is looking good from the pictures he's sent me, and has some more ideas on other pieces he'd like as well.
DeleteAs with previous buildings, I have to say how much I love the tiny details here and there, they truly make the difference. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, I used to do the same when I worked at GW, but never mentioned them, just waited for customers to find them ! LOL For me the little details give the piece life, and atmosphere.
DeleteVery nice work on these buildings. I've wanted ruined buildings for decades... while I might eventually buy some, its looking like the best way is to make some stuff myself. Seeing these is both inspiration to actually do so, and ideas as to what to do.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tarmor, The insulation foam is really easy to use, and you can get as much or little detail as you want in it, you can use PVA glue to stick it together or any glue that isn't solvent based (don't try superglue or poly cement, as the fumes are extremely toxic). The joy of making your own, is you can have exactly what you want, rather than trying to find something close or will do. Any questions I'm always happy to answer.
DeleteThat looks really nice, Dave. The little touches really bring it to life as well. It is very honorable of you not to enter it in the challenge you're running too. That is the kind of ethical integrity we have come to expect from you! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, always feel good scenery should tell a story, like the staining on the wood where it meets the floor, has the look of damp and rot as that's what would be happening with all that snow. Ethical integrity me, you must be thinking of somebody else mate ! LOL
DeleteLooks wonderful Dave, all the little details are what make these things work, I'm sure the customer will be very happy 👍😊
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, the details are fun to do as well ! LOL He seems very happy so far.
DeleteGreat. Now I’m cold and have to go and put on socks. 😀
ReplyDelete(The footprints in the snow was a nice touch)
Thank you Stewart, sorry about the cold feeling ! LOL each piece I've done for him has footprints on, but I try to vary the type, so far no duplicates ! LOL
DeleteVery nicely done Dave, your client must be very happy with this, I like the bat best myself. 😁
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, he did seem very happy, and he also liked the bat ! LOL
DeleteGreat piece of scenery! Love the small details, especially the bat.
ReplyDeleteThank you Snapfit, hopefully I can keep finding new fun things to add ! LOL
DeleteGreat details Dave, a very nice piece to be suitably proud of having completed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, he really liked this one when it arrived, though the next one could really push the skill level ! LOL
DeleteWell, you know I love Frostgrave....and all the little details you've put into this terrain is just golden! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, have to admit I've really been enjoying doing these, and it almost got me thinking about looking into Frostgrave for myself, but I already have too many different projects, so shall just enjoy doing these for my client ! LOL
DeleteFor such a simple building, you've managed to fit in a lot of detailing making it a very eye-catching piece.- great build.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, as they say the devil is in the detail, I think it really helps to tell the story of the building, otherwise it's just a shell.
DeleteGreat building you've created here, Dave - it's those little details that I always think elevates terrain and you've certainly done that here in spades!
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, it's the part I enjoy the most, when doing scenery, so expect to see more.
