CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

As many of you will know, this month a large group of the community are all painting the same model a Savage Ogre, as I've been caught up with my adventurers, Roger pointed out I should be working on my Ogre, I had originally been going for a slow and steady approach, only doing a layer on each section, and then putting it to one side, but Roger's comment turned on the turbo's ! LOL So here he is

I've varied the colours on the fur pelts, to add interest, and done each of the shields with a different heraldry design (kept them fairly simple) then added some scratches. With all the bare skin I wanted some tattoo's so gave him a chest and facial one in tribal markings. Was happy with how the flint colours turned out, and the horns have a nice slow grade to them. That's all for this post, now back to some robots that need my attention, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

Oooh, nicely done! Dave! :-) Colours have all come out well! I've sort of thought of the colours I might use but haven't even got mine primed yet, although it is based! Good idea making all the shields different!

    1. Thank you John, at least you've started mate, and that's the main thing, and having a solid idea on what you want to do will help. My original idea with the shields was to do family coats of arms, but that would involve a lot of freehand in small areas with straps in the way, so went with easier options ! LOL I found a lot of reference colour pictures when I was sculpting the model, so that gave me a good head start, when it came to painting.

  2. Fantastic work, Dave! The differently coloured shields add some nice variety. Love the idea that the ogre collects the shields of his enemies as trophies. Also, the tribal tattoos look great!

    1. Thank you Snapfit, it was a fun project, and it's close to how I envisioned the colours when I sculpted him. I thought the trophy shields was a fun idea, as was the bone and horn armour, as that is a common tool for testing blades, and it's surprising how much damage they can cause ! LOL For an example of this check out Forged in Fire, which is a competition programme where bladesmiths have to build weapons from history.

  3. Yes! Lovely to see your creation painted up to lead the way! Tattoos were a good idea, I had thought to maybe apply similar to my own. Though I am also considering adding an extra sculpted detail here and there too... hope you don't mind?

    1. Thank you Dai, wasn't the first to post up Mark Morin posted up his 5 frost Ogres first ! LOL Why would I mind you adding to your model mate ? I always consider any model a blank canvas, that you make your own, with paint or modelling materials.

I'm pleased you've said that Dave, as I've already added some extra detail to give mine a unique appearance!

    3. I've been doing the same to other peoples models for years, it would hardly be fair to say no one could do it to mine ! LOL I'm actually very much looking forward to seeing what additions people add.

  4. The ogre looks great and its neat to see them painted up after seeing the sculpt's design. I think you got the skin tones looking very nice on this guy. They're a nice mix of fleshy colors which add some realism to this fantasy miniature.

    1. Thank you Jeff, as he has a lot of skin on show, wanted to give it extra attention, as it was the bulk of the model, plus it then made the other elements pop more against it ! LOL

  5. That's pretty cool! I particularly love the whole skin and the tatoos. Awesome work

    1. Thank you Suber, as it is the main element of the model, it needed something to add interest, so I went with the Tats.

  6. Nicely done. I started with a standard flesh colour (planning to darken it a little with a wash) but didn't like the look. Your Ogre looks fine with that - helped by other parts of the figure being more varied with colour. Great work!

    1. Thank you, I started with quite a red flesh tone, as the base, and did indeed use a wash to darken the recesses further, but then I had four different tones from there, to force the contrast further. It could be fun to have actually gone a really pale route as well, or dark skintone, crikey so many variations, need to stop coming up with more ideas ! LOL

    1. Thank you Mark, credit where it's due mate. Was fun to do, and push my experience level on it. Roger will be doing the round up, as this was his project, did you take a picture of the Munchkin houses you painted for your wars of Ozz games so I can add them to the scenery rouundup ?

    2. The Munchkin houses were still in "the raw" as I bought them as is. Have some other buildings, but not yet done. So, I guess you'll just have to count the Munchkin Aerostat for me.

    1. Thank you Joe, having to wait for the challenge was the most challenging part, luckily the other participants wanting theirs, stopped me from having time for mine ! LOL

  10. Splendid work Dave, and terrific to see you caught up in the moment too. I love it when I promise myself I'm just going to put a single coat on a figure and then a couple of hours later its finished. LOL!! It's what the painting hobby is all about imho.

    1. Thank you Simon, I was probably most influenced by Roger's comment, but did get into the swing of painting it, plus I had lots of practice on skintones during Monster May(hem) ! LOL

Tats is not something I do often but I felt this was the right time to have another go, and was pleased with the results on this one, looking forward to seeing what everyone else gets done.

  13. He looks great. Dave! The flesh tones and the 90's tribal tatts look great especially. I think mine hit the postal service this weekend so it should be here in a few days, so there's actually a small chance it might be finished by the end of month's due date....
