I've managed to finish a few more models for this years Forgotten Heroes from my favourite galaxy, this time patrons of the cantina. The first one is Debnoli , this is what wookipedia says about him :
Debnoli was a marksman who frequented Chalmun's Cantina in Mos Eisley. He sought revenge on the Galactic Empire for impounding his ship.[2] From time to time, Debnoli worked with Bron Burs, a former commando from the planet Nentan.[3]
In 0 BBY, the smuggler Gela Yeens, who also worked for Jabba Desilijic Tiure as a debt collector, was searching for him.[4] Debnoli was present in the Mos Eisley cantina when Greedo was killed by Han Solo.[1]
For the model I used a stool and table from my range, but the model itself is made from greenstuff.
Painting wise I've tried to match the colour scheme as best as I can, and have included the reference picture below, unfortunately it's in black and white.
Next I have Jenny, this is what wookipeedia has to say :
Jenny was a human female from Mos Espa, on the desert planet of Tatooine.[1] In 0 BBY,[3] she worked as a B-girl at Chalmun's Cantina in Mos Eisley.[4] She flirted with Han Solo, a Corellian smuggler who had a woman in every spaceport, on the occasions when he stopped on Tatooine. One day, Jenny came to sit on the smuggler's lap[1] while he was awaiting news from Taggart about a cargo of glitterstim spice.[4] From their booth, the two witnessed a bar brawl during which an old man whipped a lightsaber at an Aqualish pirate to defend his young protégé. When Solo's first mate, the Wookiee Chewbacca, joined them in their booth, Jenny realized that the Corellian did not even remember her name, conflating her with another of his female conquests. Offended, she threw the remainder of the man's drink in his face and stormed off.[1] Whilst she was in the cantina, she sat and spoke with a Rodian.[2]
For the model I again used one of my stools, and the rest of the model was made from greenstuff, with a plastic rod cup.
I've included the reference picture below, to show why I used the colours I have.
Next I have Garouf Lafoe here is what Wookiepedia has to say :
Garouf Lafoe was a male human from Tatooine. A patron of Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley, he was present in the bar when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker were forced into a brawl with Ponda Baba and Cornelius Evazan. Having witnessed Kenobi using a Jedi's lightsaber to cut Baba's right arm, Lafoe exited the cantina and informed a sandtrooper unit leader of the incident.[1]
The model on this one was all greenstuff again.
I've included the reference picture below so you can check for yourself how well I've managed to match it.
Swilla Corey was a female Human jerba tender and pickpocket who lived on the planet of Tatooine. Born a slave, she was liberated by raiding Karazak slavers while her master was visiting Tatooine. She decided to make a new life for herself on the desert planet, and continued doing what she had done as a slave: tended to animals. She found limited amounts of work at local ranches, and was able to make ends meet.
Her success came to an end, however, when her jerba herd was scattered by a sandstorm. Financially ruined, Corey moved to Mos Eisley, and became a pickpocket. Eventually, she passed on her skills to initiates in the art of thievery. One day, she spotted one of her jerbas outside Chalmun's Cantina, and investigated. She discovered that the alien Ketwol had chanced upon it, as it had wandered out of the desert. The Pacithhip helped her rebuild her jerba herd, allowing Corey to return to her former home.
The model was again made from greenstuff.
I've included a reference picture below to show the colours.
The last model today is Garindan here is what wookipedia has to say :
With his face hidden beneath his dark hood, goggles and insect-eating snout, few on Tatooine knew his origins. Many believed that he was wildly wealthy, though his vast amounts of credits were only seen when he paid for information. He was seen carrying the Model 434 blaster pistol, popular among bounty hunters and mercenaries.
Garindan's information was priceless, and his skills went to the highest bidder, whether it be to Jabba the Hutt (who was wary of Garindan finding out too much about Jabba's business transactions) or to the Imperials. Garindan was apparently capable of finding out a wide variety of information, as evidenced when he gave the possible whereabouts to Jabba concerning the fabled Yavin Vassilika.
Around 0 BBY,[6] Garindan visited Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, where he observed a shootout between Rff Huff and Purong.[7]

Garindan with Zeta Squadron
Just prior to the Battle of Yavin, he was hired by the local Imperial prefect to find two missing droids. Once he discovered them, he followed the droids and their new owner to Docking Bay 94 and called in a squad of Imperial stormtroopers to attack. Despite this, the droids were able to escape, in part due to the help of stormtrooper Davin Felth's betrayal when he shot his commanding officer in the back.
Afterward, Garindan met with the Ketton spy Derrida and conferred. The meeting was witnessed by Meyser Kayson's son, who reported it to the Rebel Alliance.[8]
Garindan later was interrogated by the Rebellion to discover the location of his cousin, Udin. He also discovered that Luke Skywalker had sold a landspeeder in Mos Eisley, helping Darth Vader to confirm the origins and identity of the Death Star's destroyer. After the battle of Yavin Garindan went to Hoth. He had heard there where Jedi Hunters hunting a Jedi. Garindan was paid by pirates to find the location of the Jedi. Garindan killed the crew of pirates and gave the information to the Jedi Hunters.
Personality and traits
Garindan's eyes were hidden beneath dark goggles, as they were extremely sensitive to the harsh sunlight of Tatooine. His name translated to "Blessed One," "Burnt wood," "dust from a windstorm," "ugly," and "toast" in five different languages.
The model again is all greenstuff.
And as with the others I've included a reference picture below
This finishes this years submissions, as I don't think I will have time to do anymore, and there is a lot of prep work needed for the next challenge, more on that in my next post, so until next time, stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
I hate to repeat myself, but this project is hugely awesome. You are taking the whole Wookipedia into 3D, and that's amazing, I love what you are doing every post!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, on a recent reference search I managed to find 6 humans that have no names or Wookiepedia entries, sometimes I just seem to make more work for myself, and we won't talk about the new aliens I've found for Jabba's Palace ! LOL
DeletePicking out all these obscure denizens of the cantina, making them as models and painting them as their screen selves is a wqonder to behold.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, I thought I was down to 5 left to do, until I found 6 more unnamed ones ! LOL
DeleteYour attention to detail is absolutely astounding, Dave. You'll be able to populate the entirety of Mos Eisley before long. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, that's the general idea, to have a busy crowded city at the end, one thing I do want to do is the Imperial outpost in Mos Eisley as I think that would make a great siege game ! LOL
Deletevery cool creations. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, plenty more to do ! LOL
DeleteCrikey Dave, you have been busy! These are all brilliant! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you John, do try to keep out of mischief ! LOL too many projects too little time, you know the story ! LOL
DeleteGreat work on these, Dave - (almost) surprised that only one of these has been made by Hasbro! (Garindan)
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, what scale, as when I was getting my reference pictures, I saw Denoli, and Garouf, but then again I also saw an Etsy shop that does a lot of characters to fill the gaps, so they could have come from there.
DeletePretty much echoing what Suber said - your effort to make all these random characters from the film who've had their backgrounds displayed on Wookieepedia is just fun and exciting. When will we see a scene of all of them posed in one picture, mingling and interacting?
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, background characters deserve love too ! LOL I had been planning to start building the cantina this year for S.O.S. but had to use the base board I had to make a cake board for my son's birthday, so I guess it will be next year now, the things I sacrifice for my children ! LOL
DeleteGreat work on the latest patrons, Dave! You saved the best for last as everyone loves "Longsnoot" as he is sometimes called. That is a shame we won't see the cantina soon as I'm looking forward to seeing all of these miniatures in their respective homes. We might have to start a GoFundMe to "encourage" you to get started on that :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, he is probably the most well known out of the group, it's always funny the number of different names the characters have, obviously Ponda Baba was originally Walrus Head ! LOL I'm actually looking forward to clearing these old projects, so next year I can fully concentrate on another epic build ! LOL Should mean I won't get distracted if it's the only scenery I have to work on ! LOL
DeleteWow, that's a lot of characters! Nice work on getting all those done, and some look familiar. Though "Garindan" is definitely one I know, and one of my favorite characters from Star Wars. That mechanical voice of his, was pretty interesting! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, glad I could show some you recognised, Garindan was such an iconic character, and I think the different languages, and the way they spoke, was one of the things that gave the whole galaxy a sense of realism.
