Earlier than I previously stated, but had a good day yesterday and got most of the finishing work done, and only had a couple of little bits to do today. First the last element I wanted to add to the base, the bowl of Rippy Fish, the blue water makes it a little hard to see the detail of the fish in the bowl, but you can at least see the one leaping above clearly.
With this last bit here is the completed scene, with the reference picture below
Below is a shot from either side, to show how all the elements line up, and to prove I did paint all the base ! LOL
Thanks to Jeff, for the suggestion of the star halo's, and to Phil for encouraging me to do Pulger, I don't think it would have looked as good without them. So what's next ? I'm going totally obscure from my favourite galaxy.
In the above picture there is a blue headed robot, that you only see part of for a couple of seconds in the original movie, being me I wanted to know what it looked like, and it's designation. I present to you Wed-9-M1 below is a clearer picture of what it should look like.
This will be my next project for this years challenge, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Fantastic finished scene Dave! Love it all.
ReplyDeleteNew droid is as random as you'd described in your last post! O_o In all honesty, I never even noticed it watching that scene as Luke sells off the speeder. Strange design, very top heavy.
Thank you Dai, it's been fun, challenging, and totally different to the norm ! LOL
DeleteI said it was going to be obscure ! LOL in all honesty I got the picture for the white droid on the right, but kept looking at the bit of blue and wondering what it was, I found the actual image from typing in "Star Wars obscure droids" but too be honest most of what came up, I knew well ! LOL
Really is brilliant, Dave! :-) Lotsa colour, nice characters and all made from scratch! Love it! And I'm pleased you've found another droid to make!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, the colours have been a challenge and outside my wheelhouse, but it's good to challenge yourself. There's always another droid that needs making ! LOL
DeleteA wonderful diorama of a group of figures I don't think anyone else has ever tried before. I used to have the `D. R. and Quinch's Totally Awesome Guide to Life' signed by Alan Moore and Alan Davis. A really funny collection of stories.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, great to have your input on this project. That would be a great book to still have, and great to have a signature by the people who made it possible as well.
DeleteAmazing work, Dave! You captured the scene perfectly both regarding the sculpts and the painting.
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, it's been a fun project to do, and learnt a few new tricks along the way, which has to be a bonus.
DeleteVery impressive work, Dave. I especially like the detailed patterns on both Pulger and Quinch - I know how difficult these sort of patterns are ( or rather how time-consuming they can be). Very cool.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jez, you are not wrong on the time the patterns take ! LOL my favourite one to paint was actually Chrissy, as I don't paint a lot of purple, so was an interesting challenge to find the right colour to mix in to make lighter tones.
DeleteAwesome looking diorama, excellent work!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, was something different from the normal wargaming models, especially being at 100 mm scale ! LOL
DeleteStanding ovation! This is so marvelous! The step by step has been great, but the whole vignette is truly something.
ReplyDeleteI confess I had never noticed that robot in the movie, but I can't wait to see your work!
Thank you Suber, glad you've enjoyed the progress and final piece, I tried to make it balanced with the placing of all the pieces, and to give points of interest wherever you looked.
DeleteWhole dio came out looking really great. Nice job. Really creative. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, it's been an interesting project to do, and just glad that you all enjoyed it along the way.
DeleteSuper stuff, Dave. Just a visual masterpiece, imho.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, was fun to do something different, and a pure modelling project that had no impact on gaming ! LOL
DeleteThe diorama came out really well, Dave. It matches the artwork perfectly! I'm glad the stars worked out too. I think it gives them a nice effect there in the background. I look forward to seeing what kind of Star Wars stuff you get up to. It doesn't look like I'll have to wait long to find out either :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, and for the advice on the stars, I used white contrast paint watered down with glaze medium to achieve it in the end. You know me mate, can't stay inactive for long ! LOL
ReplyDeleteThe fish looks amazing, but I do wonder just how sall it is, becasue it looks tiny in comparison to therest of the diorama. You must be truly pleased with the end product as it looks the biz.
ReplyDeleteSo you spot a blue 'thing' and your curiosity get the better of you - such is the life f the completionist (that's a word right ?)
Thank you Joe, it is pretty small, less than a cm, but the right sort of size in comparison to the rest of the sculpt. Turned out better than expected, and something I'd been thinking of doing for a while, so another idea off the list ! LOL
DeleteMy curiosity will definitely be my undoing ! LOL and yes definitely a word and very apt one for me ! LOL
Whew! I'm finally catching up on blogs, but you've definitely been busy!! The recreation turned out awesome! Doing something like that kind of boggles the mind, as there are so many details to try and get right and turning a 2D image into 3D sure isn't easy. Fabulous work! I imagine Wed-9-M1 is getting its own post, so I'll comment there.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, I think the hardest part of turning 2D into 3D is knowing what the the parts that aren't shown look like, so takes a strong bit of imagination, I did leave a lot of the details from the poster out, and only picked out the bits I wanted to create ! LOL
