I've been making good progress on this project, over the last few days, including one of the parts that was causing me a challenge or two. First today I have started the base and backdrop, as I wanted to get this painted before getting the models stuck on and making it more difficult to get to.
I've taken a bit of artistic licence and changed the backdrop to something a bit easier than what was in the artwork. I've also finished Crazy Chrissy, the most challenging bit was her cocktail glass, I sculpted the glass then took a mould of it, and cast it in semi clear resin, so it looked more like glass.
The cocktail stick and cherry were made from greenstuff and painted before being stuck into the glass, was very pleased with the end result on this one. It has become a true modelling project this week, as I bleed for my art.
Yes while carving out the easy bit of the rocks, the blade slipped out and straight into my little finger, let it not be said that I don't put my body on the line for my hobby ! LOL That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
I like the backdrop - not so busy as to detract from the stars of the scene, but still a lot of work and effort to be art by itself.
ReplyDeleteChrissy is my sister's name and kinds looks like this "Chrissy". Well, long ears aside - LOL
Thank you Dai, I didn't fancy doing all the bits that were in the background of the original poster, so thgought this would be a cool compromise ! LOL
DeleteAs long as you don't call her crazy, and show her the picture, I think you should be safe ! LOL
The cocktail glass is pure genius, congrats. And of course nothing replaces a good, proper blood sacrifice to the gods of tiny models!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, knew I couldn't paint a glass effectively, so wanted another solution, this seemed to be the way to go. It's not a true modelling project, unless you've bleed for it ! LOL
DeleteAgree with Suber. As a lover of martinis, that cocktail glass is fire, my friend. And blood always makes miniatures look better!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, glad you like the glass, being an aficionado ! LOL Just never dries the right colour though ! LOL
DeleteI saw the first one of these posts on my phone the other day and got Yoda-head vibes - now that I see Chrissy sculpted and painted, I'm getting creepy-vibes instead! Well done! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, there is definitely a strong Yoda vibe with the ears and skin colour of D.R. Chrissy is a complete pyschopath, and not the sort of girl you'd want to bring home to meet your parents ! LOL
DeleteI hope your finger is feeling better! Its always a bummer when something like that happens. Its really cool to see the backdrop which will definitely add even more life to your project. One idea you could try is to glaze and I mean, glaze with really thin paint, some white or a bluish off white like Ulthuan Grey around the stars in your backdrop to give them a bit of a glowing effect. If you drag your brush towards the star, as you apply the glaze, it should really give the effect we experience when viewing stars. I think there's a decent chance it will help the stars stand out from the rain a bit more too. With that said, it already looks excellent so I wouldn't blame you if you leave it as is!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, slowly healing, just keeping it covered so I don't get any resin in it, or reopen the wound ! LOL Great idea on the stars, I'll see what I can do on that, they are all stars, just two different colours for the alien night sky, to make it more alien ! LOL
DeleteGreat job! Hopefully progress can continue despite the loss of an appendage. Lol. Did any blood get on the work? 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, thankfully it was only my little finger, so hasn't slowed me up too much ! LOL
DeleteThis is brilliant Dave! :-) Chrissy really does look crazy! I like the backdrop! Hope your finger's OK - I hate it when that happens as it then makes it more difficult to paint and work on stuff until it's healed.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, she did have the right look in the end ! LOL Natural side effect for me, and with the Fibro, I don't always know I've cut myself ! LOL
Delete"Stay safe" he says!?! Hope that finger is healing up. I seem to always cut myself after I put a new blade into my utility knife. Because of that, I wait a good long time before changing the blade! Which actually might be the reason why, as the new blade will end up slicing quicker. Can't win! Anyways, the backdrop turned out really nice and Chrissy looks great! Quite the fun project to follow! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, very much a case of do as I say, not as I do ! LOL At least with a new blade you know it's clean, I always try to keep a sharp blade, and as soon as one dulls I replace it, but as you say it can mess your head up on how much pressure to apply. It's coming together quicker than anticipated.
DeleteYou continue to astound me with your attention to detail - the cocktail glass, -wow, just wow !
ReplyDeleteAs for the bloody finger, I reckon anyone who scratchbuilds has similar wounds too; many of my modles have had my blood smeared on them (not on purpose) and later covered over with plaster or paint or both.
Thank you Joe, I think we could all say we've made a sacrifice or two to the modelling gods over the years ! LOL Occasionally I have a moment of clarity that yields some great results ! LOL
