MAKE MINE A BLUE MILK !

Yes I am back onto the Cantina, and got one of the major missing parts done, the central section of the bar. For such an iconic part of the scene, I found it really hard to find reference pictures from the movie, I only found one, so between that and lot's of pausing of a couple of scenes I came up with this.

I wouldn't say it is 100 % accurate but gives the feel, below is the reference I used.

Next I have completed the last part for Chalmun's personal bar, the seat.

I've now moved onto the outside and using the cut out reference picture I've shown before, but include it here so you don't have to look back.

I've got the first little seller and his wares finished, the sat Jawa is a new sculpt, as the other 3 I did during Forgotten Heroes' are for round the other side.

I've also added a recruitment poster for the Empire, I've made it look worn and torn, but may add a Rebel graffiti symbol on it later, haven't decided yet.

Probably going to keep working on the outside for a bit, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. it's the little touches that I love when it comes to terrain building. when i was building my Legion terrain there was all sorts of StarWars universe posters including pinups, recruitment posters for all of the major factions and wanted posters for loads of the main characters

  2. Thank you Andy, I think it is what gives a piece character and a story, rather than just a set of walls to play round. There is a good range of posters available on the internet, I have a lot more of the sort you describe waiting for when I build some more buildings, as they can add a lot of interest to a plain wall ! LOL

  3. Tremendous attention to detail, Dave. Are those (what would later become) IG-88 heads hanging from the canteen's ceiling dispensing the drinks..? Marvellous stuff.

    1. Thank you Simon, they are indeed, it turns out they were originally a manifold from a vehicle ! LOL Had to make one, then took an instant mould, and pressed out the other six required (really didn't fancy sculpting 7 ! LOL)

  4. great job with all the details. really digging in deep with all the small stuff that will make looking at the piece a real nice experience for someone else because they'll always find some new detail. 😁
gah, that movie shot is hilarious, just looks like coffee pots crossed with hookahs.

    1. Thank you Stewart, it all adds to the scene doesn't it, my son and daughter wander in periodically and see what new bits they can see ! LOL
It's probably why you only see it for a few seconds during the movie ! LOL the central bits look like whiskey jars, and the outer ones are vehicle manifolds.

  6. I was going to observe that using IG-88's head to store the drinks was a bold move on the set designer's part, wasn't it? :) Your version of the bar looks great and definitely adds a lot to that part of the project.

For the poster, I'd be tempted to add just a bit of "dust" to it by glazing whatever sand color you're using randomly. That will make it look a little less pristine and like its been in the Tatooine sand for a bit. Adding some graffiti would look cool as well if you decide to pursue it!

    1. Thank you Jeff, it's funny that the bounty hunters, other than Boba Fett, were just recycled bits from the first movie ! LOL
The outside of the building as a whole still needs staining, but some dust on the poster is a great idea, still undecided on the graffiti, I've picked up the paint to do it several times now, then thought maybe later ! LOL

    1. Thank you Mark, I enjoy doing the details, even if they take a long time, as it adds a lot of character to the build.

  8. For as iconic of a place as it is, surprising there’s hardly any reference photos of the bar. You did a good job of it though!

    1. Thank you SD, I was surprised with the total lack of reference pictures available, but it could be that as it was cobbled together, you shouldn't spend too much time looking at it ! LOL

  9. Love it! Great to see the bar, something that I never got round to doing. The scrap piles are inspired too.

    1. Thank you Michael, the trickiest part of the bar was getting the pipes to float, as the bar is removable, so had to hide some braces to hold them up on pipes that had a fixed point on the bar. The hardest part on the scrap is making it look recognisable, while still being other worldly ! LOL

I really like these posts about the details - there are so many things that get completely overlooked or skimmed by in the films (well, OK, except by you)! :-) I love that jawa!

    1. Thank you John, you are right about the detail in the movies, blink and you miss it ! LOL So glad for the pause button, so I can really get into the detail of it, especially when trying to recreate what someone has already done.
