MOUNT UP

Some of you may remember the Tarantula I painted recently, and that I said that I wanted to put a rider on it, well here is said rider attached (WARNING Arachnophobes scroll past these pictures ! See I listened Matt ! LOL)

For the rider, I used a metal terradon rider, and some plastic bits from the newer ranges to come up with this champion, plus a little bit of greenstuff to tie it all together. Below you can see him more clearly in his base materials.

For this next one we go back to more ideas for siege, in siege you can pay for things like battering rams, I thought it would be really cool to use Dinosaurs to fill the roles of the siege equipment, so got a plastic Pachycephalosaurus as these dino's had really thick skulls, and it is theorised that they would headbutt each other in mating courtships to prove suitability, and also in defence against predators. The rider is again a first edition terradon rider, with plastic bits from more up to date kits.

Sorry I forgot to take pictures of the conversion before painting, so you'll have to take my word for it ! That's all for this post, more Lizardmen inbound, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  3. Great job finishing up the mounted units! Your terradon reminds me I have some similar stuff to paint up at some point.

    1. Thank you Brian, nice to actually get them fully completed rather than just half done, I'm intrigued to see what these models are when you get to them.

  4. You did a fantastic job converting various riders to fit these mounts! GW has done a great job taking the lizardmen from mostly infantry troops in Warhammer Fantasy and adding them on top of huge dinos. I think that really elevates them and makes them look intimidating on the battlefield. I hope we might see some of the Aztec inspired lizardmen make their way to your hobby table too!

    1. Thank you Jeff, it's been interesting watching the development of this army, although there have been some versions, I just hated ( second edition Kroxigor !) but overall I like the whole army, and certainly gives a lot of scope for trying out unusual colour schemes. Have some Saurus, Skinks and Kroxigor on the workbench, plus a few more dino riding ones as well ! LOL

    5. I have the same problem myself, the creative side goes I've got this great idea, and the realist side goes, here he goes again ! LOL

  6. Fantastic! The dinosaur toy is a fitting mount and would definitely be very useful during a siege.
Funnily enough I utilised the same skink head that you used on the spider rider for a conversion recently to create a Dragonborn for my DnD group.

    1. Thank you snapfit, it was a lucky find in my local model shop, as I've been looking for one of these since Siege came out, just need to find a suitable Brachiosaur now ! LOL The helmeted heads that GW have done adds a good bit of variation, hope you post it up on your blog so we can all see it.

    2. Very cool, are you going to use the Brachiosaur to represent a Thunder Lizard?
Yes, I'll definitely post the model in the near future.

    3. My thoughts was t would make a great living siege tower, with it's long neck being able to lean over castle walls and towers.
Shall look forward to seeing that then.

  7. Both mounted models look great - and it's funny how different an actual anatomically correct dinosaur looks compared to the cartoonish GW sculpts, isn't it?

    1. Thank you Azazael, I prefer the anatomically correct style, and have done the same with the few dinosaurs I've sculpted.
