SOARING HIGH

Before I start posting up challenge models, I needed to clear what I've got done before I start, with that in mind I've got some flyers today for the Lizardmen army, these first two were left over from a customer project I did a pair of Ripperdactyl's. To make them into a full unit I will need to get another box set, but that will be at a later date. The colour scheme I found on the internet, and I thought it was quite interesting, and the bases I made some dead trees to support them in the sky.

I also had some original Pteradons, that I wanted to use, but the wings were a little small in my opinion, so I lengthened them, below is the normal size.

I also used the spare bits from the ripper/Pteradon box set as well to give them a unique look, I also wanted to make their colours different from the Rippers so came up with this one.

As you will see above I used long grasses to hide the pins that hold up the models. Next post will be challenge models, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

Nice work on the fliers, Dave! :-) Not sure I'd like to tackle them!

    1. Thank you John, probably just as well to find cover and hide until they pass by, with their large array of attacks including dropping rocks, flame attack and rending claws and bites ! LOL

    1. Thank you Suber, the trick with the wings was a pin for the middle finger, and using a piece of leather to add the texture to them, but glad you like them.

  3. Very cool! First time I've heard of the Ripperdactyls, great models - might have to get them at some point for some kitbashing. With their large jaws they wouldn't look out of place in an orc army.
Also, great work on the flying stands - the trees and bushes look a lot better than the standard clear plastic ones.

    1. Thank you snapfit, the ripperdactyls and Pteradon are part of the same box, and you then build which variation you want. That sounds like a very cool idea for your Orc's and would be very interested to see them if you do the conversions.
Always hated the clear stands, especially how they keep breaking, but trying to disguise them better now, rather than just the black metal rods ! LOL

  4. Great work on these flyers, Dave! I like how you covered up the fight stand as well. This lot would certainly be intimidating on the battlefield!

    1. Thank you Jeff, always trying new ways to disguise the flying stands, was very happy with this experiment ! LOL Indeed to units that can fly high and swoop in is a scary prospect, especially with one dropping rocks on it's first attack ! LOL

  5. Splendid flyers, Dave. I particularly like the red and black markings on the first one - very striking imho, especially with the tiny blue-skinned skink riding upon its back. I also thought your flame was outstandingly done. I have some fiery figures planned for 2024 and thought your flames were excellent.

    1. Thank you Simon, I to really like the black and bone colour scheme, it really stands out on the battlefield. The flames were pretty easy to do, I started with a base of GW Yriel Yellow, then a coat of GW Iyanden Yellow contrast, then I used GW Fuegan orange wash mid to top of each flame, and finally GW Carroburg Crimson wash on the tips of the flames, hope this helps and gives you some ideas to play with.

  6. These turned out pretty nice. The red on the Pteradon looks good alongside the fire from the torch. Almost gives the impression of a phoenix. Nice green stuff job on the wings! The Ripperdactly color scheme is pretty interesting too.

    1. Thank you Brian, there is some subtle OSL on the wings as well, but you need to see it in hand to pick it out, I like the idea of a phoenix Pteradon !LOL It certainly catches the eye, and the pops of red tie into the other ones.

  7. Great work on these, Dave! Makes me want to paint some lizards for a change, though I've got a lot of stuff that's more pressing to finish before I start entirely new things!

    1. Thank you Azazael, they have been fun to do, but being able to prioritise is a skill worth it's weight in gold in this hobby.
