MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU

For some people May the 4th is the day to celebrate all that's Star Wars, for me that's most days ! LOL I do like to show my support just the same. So what Star Wars goodies do I have today, well I've finally finished painting up all the mini busts from Phantom Menace, that I collected from a certain frosted cereal. First up is the two Sith no more no less, Maul and Sidious

Next we have the three Jedi, Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Anakin Skywalker

Next is C3PO and R2D2

And lastly we have the two Gungans, Jar Jar, and Boss Nass (Dai skip past these ! LOL)

There was one more in the set, Padme, but I never managed to get hold of that one, so I am now calling these finished, for the rest of the month I will be concentrating on Monster May(hem), so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Excellent stuff, Dave, and a fitting May The Fourth posting indeed. I think C-3PO is the stand-out for me. But they're all marvellously painted.

    1. Thank you Simon, there are times I think I should just rename my blog May the Fourth ! LOL my favourite is the Gungans from a painting perspective, as the skin tones worked out really well.

  3. I agree with Simon. They're all great, but 3PO is the standout. Very cool!

    1. Thank you Keith, I have a love hate relationship with 3PO as the end result looked good, but painting all those wires was an absolute pain ! LOL

    1. Thank you Stewart, on average they are 2 and a half inches tall, so not massive, but big enough to get some detail in.

  6. Great tribute to your interest in Star Wars (obsession?), just one thing Obi -Wan looks nothing like Alex Guinness. ;)

  7. Oh, they all look lovely! I concur, C3PO is a hell of a job, but the skin tones on both Gungans are absolutely amazing. Enormously cool!

    1. Thank you Suber, the larger scale is both challenging and rewarding, may have to try some more.

  8. May 4th, is basically any Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday for you, I reckon, Dave! :D You know, whatever you think about the various Star Wars movies, many of them have top-notch character and vehicle design. C-3PO and Darth Maul are both great examples of characters that come from a so-so movie but both have excellent character design. You did a great job painting these up and I can't think of a better way to celebrate. Unless you want to start on another one of those epic dioramas like Jabba's Palace... ;)

    1. Thank you Jeff, you're not wrong, sometimes it's 365 days a year ! LOL I think you've nailed what was wrong with the remakes, they had very weak characters in them, and the storylines were just repeats of the original 3 movies. I might be starting another epic build for Season of Scenery this year.

    2. Haha, 365... now that is impressive! I really hope you will do another epic build because those are incredibly fun projects to follow. Your audience demands it! :)

    3. I'm always tinkering with something for my Star Wars project, whether researching characters, or finding good reference pictures, looking to see if there are models available, or sculpting or painting them, even if other things show up on the blog ! LOL There's 5 projects I want to do, so it just depends which one wins out ! LOL

  10. Egads! NSW post! Next time let me know when C3-PO is in the buff! Hahaha! Actually we just started the series Westworld and nudity in most shows seems really, really tame now! Ok, ok, back to the post... the busts (no pun intended) are great and it makes me wonder who is your favorite Sith and favorite Jedi? I think everyone knows you as Mr Star Wars, so there should have been no surprise that you put out an appropriate and lovely post on May 4th!

    1. Thank you Brian, I guess I should have hade a nudity warning at the beginning as his parts are showing ! LOL Westworld, now that's a series that's full of nudity, possibly not as much as Spartacus though ! LOL Favourite Sith has to be Maul, as his storyline is a lot deeper than the others, with so many twists and turns along the way. Favourite Jedi would be Kanan Jarrus, as again his back story is quite deep, Ahsoka would be a close second, for the same reasons.

    2. Spartacus has even more?! Wow, that's crazy. I feel like there has been so much in Westworld, that I'm basically numb to it. I like Darth Maul, though I only know of his appearances in the movies and Disney TV shows, so not too much of his back story. I don't know Kanan, but Ahsoka has been an interesting one to watch. Though we haven't started her TV series yet, so no spoilers! ;)

    3. Some of the early period dramas like the Romans, can lean heavy on the seedy side, as long as it doesn't distract from the actual story, I don't really take that much notice ! LOL Maul even in the cartoons and series and films, has a lot more going on than the other Sith, Kanan is the main star of Star Wars Rebels, which is a good watch before the Ahsoka series comes out, as it will give you a bit more background on a lot of the characters that will be appearing.

  11. Oh, now these are (mostly) very cool. No hate to the actors, but I can't stand Annie, Jar Jar or Nass. (Nice redemption for Ahmed Best recently, though!) The droids look especially sweet. Are these as old as I think they might be? :o

  12. Thank you Azazael, it must have been a good feeling for him, going from hated laughing stock to Jedi. Yes these were only available while the film was in the cinema, so they have been in my collection that long ! LOL
