My next model for Monster May(hem) is the clawed fiend I showed the green of last month, I've used similar colours to my first one, but changed some of the tones and markings so they look similar, but different, like animals in nature.
Below is a picture of it with it's fellow fiend, and the two beastmasters
Currently working on some Khymera to finish of the last beast pack, that's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Cripes, I've caught up with your posts! These are brilliant beasties, Dave! :-) I like the striped colour scheme!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, the colour scheme I used GW's version as the basis and then just tweaked it in places to what I preferred, but was very happy with how the stripes turned out, it was actually done with washes rather than solid paint, so gave a natural bleed out into the surrounding colour.
DeleteJust enough difference to distinguish them but still easily recognizable. Nice! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, do like to use nature as my basis for painting, as it gives the creatures a real feel to them.
DeleteAwesome paint-job Dave - well on both fiends tbh. Lovely colours which really help show off all the textures you've sculpted into the creatures' fur and skin.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, a lot of washes over the original colours to be honest, as I find it gives a more natural tone between the different colours used, then the markings just become deeper versions of the same. The skin is more traditional building up colours, to give a smoother feel to the area.
DeleteOoo he’s a big beast! Love how he’s similar enough to match the other version, but still different so that his parents can tell them apart. Lol
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, indeed he has a lot more bulk than the GW version, and with it's background I thought it was fitting. I think your spot on there mate, and always easier to know which child is in trouble ! LOL
DeleteWow, how much does the sculpt change from the green surface to this. I already thought it was amazing, but now it looks completely awesome!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, I've found that a picture of the green can hide a lot of the detail, and being just one colour can not give you a focus that the paint does, but does make for a good reveal though ! LOL
DeleteAwesome pair of painted, custom-sculpted fiends here, Dave! Please do pass on my compliments to whoever the sculptor is! ;) :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, something a little different to the norm, which totally fits with my army. I will pass on your compliments, the next time he drops in ! LOL
DeleteIt’s the GW version of Sully from Monsters Inc. 😀
ReplyDeleteReally good looking too. Nice job! 😀
Thank you Stewart, I can see that reference in it, I thought it was a bulked up version of Stitch, but both would work ! LOL
DeleteYeah, but who saw Lilo and Stitch? Nobody. But everyone’s seen Monsters Inc. 😀
DeleteMy wife and two of my daughters are huge Stitch fans, so I guess I'm just used to seeing that more ! LOL
DeleteAwesome! The fur looks great, both in its sculpting and painting and I love the blues' contrast to the red face. All those nasty spines are excellent too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, sculpting fur I find easy now, can't take credit on the colour scheme, as I just copied GW's colour scheme.
DeleteThere's something unsettling about all those eyes, isn't there? The bones out the back doesn't help much either I suppose :) These two blue beasties look great together and kudos to you for sculpting them so nicely! Your Dark Eldar army is really coming together!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, they certainly look alien ! LOL It's nice to have them finished, and also a homage to Jes's concept sketch. I'm down to 3 Khymera and a raider, and that will be all 3 Dark Eldar forces finished.
DeleteYou already know how I feel about this one, Dave....since I asked if it was for sale! LOL Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, indeed, which is why I'm looking at doing something similar which I could sell ! LOL
DeleteGrom 'green to great. It's the colour choices yo've made that really make this critter a veru glorious beast.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, can't take credit on the colour scheme as It's what GW did, maybe a little on execution ! LOL
DeleteLovely colour scheme, Dave, he looks beastly great!
ReplyDeleteThank you Justin, the colours are GW's the only difference being is probably the tones I've used, but it does look very alien ! LOL
