CAREFUL THIS ONE HAS TEETH

Today I have a Fang Fighter which is the smaller craft the Mandalorians use, this one has no troop carrying capacity like the Kom'rk fighter does, but is a single man fighter. So far it has only appeared in the cartoon series, but hopefully will get a live action appearance before too long. The colour scheme I've gone for would work with either Clan Kyze or the Protectors. This was an anniversary gift from my wife, our anniversary isn't until next week, but as she had already had her gift, thought it was only fair I had mine early also.

The model is a 3D print, and came with a closed and open cockpit, and also landing gear down and up options, shown above with landing gear down and open cockpit, as I need to design a base that will hold the ship from the central engine at the rear to allow the wings to still rotate. Looked at traditional art to try a different method for painting the glass, not sure about it, think I've left too much solid white, but lessons learned so was a worth while experiment. That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Great work Dave, on what looks like a cracking 3D-print too. Have you got a second to paint to show the ship firing - that does look like a particularly cool design, imho.

    1. Thank you Simon, the print wasn't bad, and I managed to cover a lot of the lines with paint and weathering, which I kept subtle on this one. Don't have a second print, have just left the canopy and under carriage transferrable so once I've built a stand I can show it the other way as well ! LOL

  2. Stunning work on one of my favourite ships in the Star Wars universe! We have the x Wing version, though I didn't realise it was a Mandalorian ship tbh. I just liked it because it had a vague look of the old Buck Rogers Starfighter.😁

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, it's a great shape to the ship, and agree it is very resembling of the Buck Rogers fighter, I've even seen a Buck Rogers fighter marked up in Fang fighter colours ! LOL Would love to get the Kom'rk as well, but not seen one available so far, so might have to be a scratch build ! LOL

  3. Great paint job on a good looking print and the proportions are spot on too.

Fun to see random stuff from the cartoons like this.

    1. Thank you Dai, as a lot of it is flat surfaces there wasn't too many lines to worry about, and the few there were got hidden with the paint. Rebels is a great resource for me ! LOL

That looks really nice, Dave! :-) I think I might have tried light grey windows in contrast to the white on the hull/fuselage, but I'd probably have found that wouldn't work! Tricky with the cockpit open! Hope you enjoy your anniversary!

    1. Thank you John, the photograph has really blurred out all the colours I used on the canopy, as there is grey, blue, and even a little black, so not only do I still need to get better with glass effect, but my photography also ! LOL

  6. You always do such a great job painting up these ships! It's a nice looking ship, and I'd like to see that show up on one of the series too. Great line for the title too! :D

    1. Thank you Brian, to think 3 years ago I wouldn't have even attempted painting ships, so glad you like what I've been doing. Glad you like the title, they seem to take as long as the post to come up with ! LOL

  8. For a 3D print, it is immaculate and with a great paintjob it's indistinguishable from a more manufactured version (if there was one)

    1. Thank you Joe, it is certainly one of the better prints I've had, but a lot of that comes to the shapes it uses.

  9. Lovely paint job, Dave, stunning!
I really, really want a 3D printer - I'll have to find a use for it for my wife and sell it to her that way!

    1. Thank you Matt, wanted to try out a more subtle glaze as a base, and this one seemed the perfect opportunity, so glad you liked it.

  11. That is a really sharp looking ship! You did an excellent job painting it up. Nobody asked for them but some of my favorite ship's are: Nero's ship, the Narada, in the first J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie and the Virago, which was Prince Xizor's ship in Star Wars Extended Universe. Of course, just about all the Star Wars ships look cool so you can't really go wrong there!

    1. Thank you Jeff, was trying a new thickness of glaze on this one, so glad it worked. Funnily enough I have a Virago, which I need to get painted at some point, I did get the repairs done on it last year from the move, and a bit of paint on it, but still a long way to go ! LOL
