Over the years building dioramas in store displays, I'd built a few Psychic powers in 3D and always thought it would be cool to have some for gaming. Recently I saw Mick on twitchybristles do something similar for his Eldar, which reminded me I'd started one a long time ago. The psychic power I've gone for is The Avenger, the codex says the Librarian draws on the ancient legends of his chapter to create a destructive avatar of roiling flame. The psychic construct billows forward, leaving destruction in it's wake. As my chapter symbol is a hawk, I started with a small Eagle model and then added flames to give the effect as described.
I've built it so it will work with several of my Librarian models perfectly for their pose, but it would be fine with the other poses as well, in gaming terms. This now has made another space on the desk, so clearing out these old projects is going well. That's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Splendid concept and execution, Dave. That looks grand alongside both the Librarians pictured. Excellent stuff. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, nice to finally see the idea in model form, and I thought the blue flames would fit my colour scheme better as well.
DeleteThat's brilliant, Dave! :-) I really like it in blue!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, was an easy conversion, which means I can't believe how long it's taken me to do ! LOL
DeleteA really clever idea, Dave, and you've brought it to life wonderfully. I like how you've gone for a colder blue look rather than flames. Excellent work, sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, I occasionally stumble on a good idea ! LOL I thought the blue would give it more of a psychic flame feel, plus it ties in nicely with my colour scheme.
Deletethat's pretty darn nifty that is. I had a fried who did similar with his WWII flame throwers: had some flames spewing out. It's a great photo op when it's on the table. 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, I've done bits like this on the scenery and models we cast before, and dioramas so thought why not for gaming.
DeleteOh, that's inspiring! I like the effect and how you sorted things, pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, the trickiest part was getting the piece to balance on it's pin, while I built up the flames, once that was sorted, it was pretty plain sailing.
DeleteJust fricken cool! Really like this and it'll certainly add to the immersion effect during games!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, that was my thinking give it the cinematic vibe ! LOL
DeleteVery cool effect mate, not something I've ever used in a game myself the closest I probably have is a card template for a flame thrower I made years ago.
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, made a dragon breathing fire over one of the GW plastic flamer template once, so he always had it's template with it ! LOL Anything that adds to the visual during games is great in my book.
DeleteThis is a very clever idea, Dave and well painted to boot! I like that GW has made all those spell effect models for Age of Sigmar and I would say that is an area where they have improved upon Warhammer Fantasy. Having a dedicated model for a spell like this just brings the game to life that much more.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, indeed a 3D piece looks so much better than a template, and adds to the emersion of the setting, will have to see what other psychic powers I can do at some point.
DeleteA much better looking bit of kit rather than some card temple - a very stunning piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, indeed card or plastic templates, feel very sterile on a table.
DeleteReally nice Psychic Power effect! I like it better than the spell effects that GW has put out! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, I think some of the problem comes from it being 3D sculpted, or GW's over the top style ! LOL
