No I'm not talking about the band, I'll leave the music Monday's to Justin on thesolomeeple no I'm talking about finally finishing my Imperial Snowtroopers I got back in Christmas 2021. As I'm not currently doing much with snow, these have been taking up space on my desk for over a year, but I decided to get them done and out the way, these are the last 5 I needed to do as I had done the sixth as a test piece last year.
As you can see above I now have something to photograph any snow themed models on (see I do pay attention Simon ! LOL), now your feeling all cold I'll warm you back up by jumping back to Tatooine with a dirty beat up Gonk power droid, this is only my third one of this type of droid, so wiull still need to do some more at some point including a four legged version.
I'm going to be away from the computer for the next couple of days, so will catch up on comments and posts on my return, nothing to worry about, just a treat for my youngest, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Nice work on the snow troopers, but I have to say the Gonk is my fave' as you know have a soft spot for these droids (don't know why just do). This one has really had a hard life by the looks of it!
ReplyDeleteHave fun, on your time away mate.
Cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, just pleased to have them finished to be honest, and create a little space on my desk ! LOL This poor droid obviously doesn't have an owner who cares ! LOL Thet were such a cool concept, I can understand why you like them
DeleteI have to admit to taking the Kanban storage boxes at work and stacking them on top of each other so the open side face each other and thinking all it would take is cutting the bottom out of the lower box some industrial piping and some feet....thankfully thats as far as I've ever got 🤣🤣🤣
DeleteI've never done anything like that in B&Q ( not allowed in the one in Bristol) ! LOL
DeleteGreat stuff, Dave, and I especially like the new background ;-) I too am a huge fan of Gonk, and couldn't resist printing out a couple when I first bought my resin printed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, glad you like the new background you inspired ! LOL I was surprised on how many variations of the Gonk design there are, so really need to up my game on them.
DeleteI've always found the snowtroopers funny, I called them ghost-troopers, with the blanket on their faces. Nevertheless, I think you made a fantastic job on them, as well as on the droid, which I guess (I don't know why, but it happens) is quite a beloved model by us all. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, agree the soft face cover seems a strange choice for cold zones but glad to have them finished. I think it's the simplicity, plus you can build your own with a quick trip to a DIY store ! LOL
DeleteI remember that band.
ReplyDeleteGood job on the troops and the droid. lol really good. 😀
Thank you Stewart, I bought the album after hearing the single, unfortunately the rest of the album was awful ! LOL
DeleteNice to clear these bits off the work desk.
Excellent Snow Troopers! Guess with all that recent winter terrain commission work you’ll just HAVE to start your own winter project? :)
ReplyDeleteYellow for a gonk is a great choice and I love the weathering on it too.
Hope the youngest has a blast
Thank you Dai, I think I need to make some headway in the other Star Wars projects before starting a snow base one ! LOL
DeleteWhile searching for reference pictures I spotted this colour scheme, and thought it made a nice change.
He had a great time, which makes up for the pain I'm now in ! LOL
Snowtroopers look spot on, Dave! :-) I really like 'em! And that's a nice beat up finish to the droid!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, only when looking closely did I realise the different shades in the outfit, so glad I checked ! LOL The idea came from the reference I found, so just copied it.
DeleteGreat squad with great detainling ; the droid reminds me of Hey, Dewie and Louis from a Sci-Fi film that I can;t remmebr the name of.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, the squad are some nice detailed sculpts, and the film you are thinking of is Silent Running, great movie.
DeleteGonk! Always great to see a Gonk droid and I like the way you painted it as well. I'm used to seeing them in a dull brown/gray.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the snowtroopers might have been let down a bit in the photo. Its a little dark and the warmish background makes the snowtroopers almost look dirty and like their armor is weathered. I think using a plain white background would have worked really well. I have some white card stock for photos with a white background that works pretty well. You can also play around with the warmth and coldness of your light in a photo editor if you've got one. Of course, a snowy terrain piece would look even more awesome, if you've got one in the works! And if you make that, then you'll need to get some Wampas out and maybe Darth Vader too... :)
Thank you Jeff, while researching reference pictures of Gonks, I found multiple variations in shape, and colours, so they must have been really background in the films as you say the prominent ones tended to be brown or grey.
DeleteThe biggest problem I have is my photography, ask anyone who's seen my stuff in person, to only having seen it in pictures and it's like it's two different models ! LOL I will keep trying to improve and thanks for the tips.
Completely forgot about Snow Patrol! Though we've had quite a bit of the whit fluffy stuff in our area last week! The Snowtroopers look great and like the yellow Gonk droid. I was always interested in those little droids since I first saw one in the original Star Wars when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, regretfully I bought their album, which wasn't as good as the single they released ! LOL Were expecting snow in the UK, but they've been saying that for the last month ! LOL It's like Gonk's are the secret favourite of everyone ! LOL
DeleteI'm pretty sure I bought their album and felt the same way! That was the thing back before iPods though. You sometimes were suckered into buying the whole album, only to find out the band stinks (or maybe went a totally different direction). I still like to collect the 'albums' today though, because that gives you the best representation of a band's music. But I listen to a sample of songs before I make the purchase.
DeleteIndeed it put me off of buying new bands albums, and sticking with ones I know and like, which is a shame.
