WE'RE HALF WAY THERE !

Can't believe we've reached the half way point in the scenery challenge already !  There has been some great entries already from many of the entrants and I will cover this more in the later part of this post.
One of the entries by Dai inspired me to finish this little piece of scenery, part of the set of 3 pieces that included the Marine statue ( really wish I had a second one of those ) and the cracked Aquilla. I've gone for a very rusted look to all the metal , and tarnished the gold and added patina to the crest.

I've also been working on bits for the main entrance of my Chapters monastery, mainly the doors at the moment, the hinges work so the doors will be able to open and close.

As you can see by the model shown with it, you could have a parade of four marines across walk through, or two dreadnoughts side by side. Still got to finish the details on the inside including the pipe work for the hydraulic locking mechanism. Once this is finished will start on the main structure.
ROLL OF HONOUR
Here is the list of participants and what they've been up to so far :
rantingsfromunderthewargamestable Roger has created a mighty fine post apocalyptic pond, complete with creature
lostdamnedstunted Dai has finished a wide variety of scenery in his latest post.
28mmvictorianwarfare Michael hasn't shown any scenery yet as he has been busy finishing his PBR, which technically we could call it scenery as I said we would include vehicles, but still looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.
caveadsum1471 Iain hasn't posted up any scenery yet, but has a lot of great battle reports that are well worth taking a look at.
Codsticker hasn't posted up any scenery so far, but if you check out his Mordheim blog, you can get a look at the sort of thing we can expect ( Awesome buildings on show !)
warthroughtheages Not only has Harry been working on his Windmill, he's started a whole batch of Wild West buildings as well.
azazelx has been very busy on the scenery front, with pieces useful in 40K, post apocalyptic, and fantasy (my round up may well be a very big post ! LOL)
pmpainting Matt has started a Warhammer cottage, hoping he solves the problems soon, and can get this great piece finished.
smallprojectteam Wouter is on vacation at the moment, but looking forward to seeing what he's up to.
angrypiper Keith has shown some pieces he'd like to do, but has been tempted by Harry's wild west scenery as well.
fantorical Simon has posted up his first scenery for Epic, and he's hoping to finish some more, and hopefully some 40K scenery as well.
tarmor has posted up some mighty fine pillars
ray has posted up a whole camp, including tents and fires and all manner of things.
Even though these next two links haven't signed up for the event, I'm calling them my honourable mentions for their great scenery they've posted recently.
wargaminggirl Tamsin has done a huge amount of scenery for Judge Dredd.
zabadakszombieworld Joe has done some excellent trading stalls.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave

  1. When I saw the first picture I was facinated to see what you had done, this looked like a piece of modern art on the small screen of the tablet, looks even better enlarged but those gates are going to be awesome. Really looking forward to seeing them painted.
Thanks for the round up of the challenge theres a few things I'll have a look at, and see what's happening there.
    Cheers

    1. Thank you John, a lot of this piece was actually painted with a sponge, and can be a relatively quick and easy technique, if a little bit messy ! LOL I'm looking forward to seeing the gates painted too, as it means I'll have finally finished the construction ! LOL
Your most welcome on the round up, beleave in giving credit to all the hard work that's been going into these entries

    1. Thank you Matt, was quite pleased with the rubble as the detail is quite soft in areas, and the doors are slowly getting there.
No problem on the shout out, as it's easy to give credit where credit is due

  4. Lovely work on the rubble piece Dave, cracking bit of weathering there. Those doors are awesome! what is the eagle cut from? They look brilliant.

Thanks for the shout out, Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, I find heavy rust a lot easier than light rusting technique. The eagle was cut out of 1 mm thick plasticard which I freehand drew the symbol on first

    2. No problem on the shout out Roger, want everyone to know where all the great entries are

    3. Wait, you made the eagle? Blimey.

    4. I did indeed ! LOL once you break it down into it's separate parts most of them are simple geometric shapes, the wings were probably the trickiest part

  5. Well, I feel like I need to go back and work some more on my 40K ruins after seeing how you did yours. That rust looks super good mate.

The big doors are sweet - need to make sure a Land Raider can fit through too!

    1. Thank you Dai, don't you dare touch your ruins they look excellent as is mate.
No Land raiders in my army, or rhino/ variants in my army so wouldn't be much point ! LOL

    2. If you want to do similar on anything mate, start with a base colour of Rhinox hide, then sponge Skraag brown, lightly sponge Fire Dragon Bright over the top. You can then sponge some silver in places but once dry add a Reikland fleshwash over the top to tone it down, hope this helps

    3. I like the recipe. Might give it a go on something soon, thanks Dave! :)

Surely the chapter, being Astartes and all would be outfitted with them though? Or have the Adeptus Mechanicus been a bit stingy and not sent any their way? LOL

    4. The history of the chapter has them stuck out in the western fringes out of contact from the imperium, and with where there homeworld is tanks aren't suited to the mountainous landscape, so they developed their fighting style to being mainly flight based with some devastator style support, just wanted a chapter with more of a individual fighting style and organisation

    5. Well that would explain all the Land Speeders then. I like it.

    6. Indeed, 10 squadrons when I'm finished plus command group, so an entire company of them, then it will be onto an entire company of jetbikes !LOL

  6. That is one heck of a bit of scratch-building

  7. Great stuff Dave! Your monastery doors are enormous, can't wait to see the rest of it completed, should be a table focal point for certain 😀
And appreciate all the links to the other blogs, great stuff there too and lots of new people to follow, cheers!

    1. Thank you Iain, the ruins were a nice quick win, the entrance is coming along now, with a clear direction, which I didn't have at the time of building the gates

  9. Those gates are epic. How big is your monastery gonna be by the end? In scale to Those monsters?

I dropped by a couple other blogs and there is some cool stuff being done. Wow!

    1. Thank you Harry, If I won the lottery and space wasn't a problem I'd probably build the entire mountain monastery, luckily for the wife I'm probably only going to build a few sections the main entrance being one of them, which is currently 60 cm wide, and 43 cm high.
There is definitely some awesome pieces being done by everyone, and seriously considering making this a yearly event

  11. The little ruins piece looks great - I've still got those here myself and need to decide if I'm going to do them as standalones or keep holding them to the side so I can incorporate them into something larger.
The gate though is really bloody impressive! It's going to look amazing incorporated into the "front door" that I just saw (as I'm working backwards through posts!)

    1. Thank you Azazel, did think about incorporating it in to a larger piece, but in the end left it as a standalone for versatility.
The doors are almost finished now, and the internal details, just got to get the roof on and will be ready for photographing
