THERE'S KLINGONS OFF THE STARBOARD BOW

Carrying on with entries for the Jewel of July I have dug out my large scale Klingon Bird of Prey model, it has been sat for about 15 years now, sprayed in a base coat of camo green and then left unattended until now

I started by giving it a complete wash of Biel-Tan green, then drybrushed Elysian green all over, once dry I used a mix of Reikland fleshwash, Nuln oil, and AK dark rust deposit, to give an overall weathered effect. Pleased with the overall effect, just need to find the little clear plastic piece to put in the torpedo launcher, that may take some time ! LOL so I shall call this one done, until I can decide what base to do for it.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave

  3. Marvellous stuff, Dave, simply marvellous. I love the Bird of Prey design, and you've done the model proud with your painting of it. Wonderful brushwork.

    1. Thank you Simon, such a classic design, shame I don't have it's original base any more, but sure I can come up with a suitable replacement

  4. Excellent stuff again, Dave, it looks superb. It's such a classic design and you've done it real justice with the paint. How big is the model?

    1. Thank you Matt, the model is 25 cm long and has a wingspan of 38 cm, luckily being plastic meant it wasn't too heavy to hold for long periods of time while painting

  5. It's a great model and just as I remember the Birds of prey. I was inpsired to 'go large' seeing a huge game using this scale of models (there were at least two dozen iirc) in a hall way back when.

    1. Thank you Joe, there's something about playing with larger models that really appeals to me, some as scenery or objectives in 28 mm scale, but a large scale spaceship battle would be awesome ! My biggest problem with a lot of the space ship games that are available the scale isn't consistent and really bugs my OCD (Slave 1 in X-Wing is almost as big as the Millenium Falcon !)

    1. Thank you Iain, I think that's what has stopped me for so long as it's such a recognisable ship and colour

    1. Thank you Dai, this is the only one I ever built and was in my late 30's before building this one, and finally painted in my 50's so quite a way behind you mate ! LOL it's my favourite trek ship, like others as well but this is definitely my favourite

  8. You're a man after my heart, Dave...and I'm totally stealing your color scheme for the Deep Cuts Klingon ships I have to paint. Great work. Every once in a while, I eye the AMT Deep Space Nine kit I have, still sitting in the shrink-wrap...I'll get to it one day.

    1. Thank you Keith, it's funny your Star Trek posts had me rewatching Voyager, Enterprise and DS9, which inspired me to finally get this one finished. Funny you mention the DS9 kit as my wife is hopefully getting me one for my birthday, maybe we can have a paint off
