No I am not talking about my holiday, which even though the weather and travel back was bad, it was great to spend quality time with the wife and children, no I am talking about the subject material of the latest commission I've done for one of my regular clients. All of the models shown are 3D prints of torture equipment, they are 3 different sets, and I've photographed them in the packs they come in.
My client liked the painting but asked if I would add some extra bits, a skeleton on the torture rack, and a severed head in the basket of the guillotine, which I have below.
Enjoy doing these commissions, as I get to paint stuff that I may not do for myself.
In other news we have a new addition to our family, Angel she is a rescue dog, that we have adopted, she is very timid, and not sure that she wants human interaction, but slowly she is coming out of her shell, and starting to copy our other dog, I even had a wake up sniff from her the other morning, and even took Loki's normal sleep spot next to my bed.
That's all for todays post, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Splendid work on the torture devices, Dave, and the extra body/body parts here & there really add some character to the pieces.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, all my clients idea on the extra's, the only bit I had added before that was the ropes on the torture rack, as it doesn't come with any, and it looked strange without them ! LOL
DeleteReally enjoyable (the paintjob, not the devices per se!) My favourite is the gallows, but they all look terrific!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, don't worry knew what you ment ! LOL It was the trickiest to do as the skeleton had to be painted separately, as did the cage, and floor to the cage, then assembled once painted, luckily only needed a few touch ups after assembly ! LOL
DeleteLovely work all round mate, love the additions you've added, the guillotine made me immediately think of Alice Cooper!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with bringing Angel out of her shell, she is beautiful!
Cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, was pleased with how they turned out, and totally understand why ! LOL
DeleteHoping Loki will help bring her out of her shell, and Angel can teach him to not be a human hog ! LOL
Nice work on the minis, Dave! :-) Glad you enjoyed your holiday and thank, and for sharing the pic of Angel, she's a lovely looking dog!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, interesting pieces to do, but didn't want to go total blood splatter all over them ! LOL I actually got to see a goldfinch in the wild while on holiday, so that was a cool first for me, she is a lovely dog, but is going to need a lot of patience and love.
DeleteSome nice looking torture devices haha, what a weird sentence. Enjoy the new pet!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, I know what you mean on the torture devices ! LOL She will need a lot of time and love, but already seeing some of her personality.
DeleteWonderfully gruesome! I love the added extras and as for Angel, she is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michael, when I was in Malta, I almost went to the Spanish Inquisition museum there, but ran out of time ! LOL She is settling in well, and is becoming a bit of a kleptomaniac ! LOL
Deletegreat job on the torture equipment. I have some of those items in my dungue.....I mean garage. 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, it was certainly something different to paint, so your garage is a museum of ancient torture devices then ! LOL
DeleteGreat looking devices and a lovely looking dog!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, was fun to do something out of my normal comfort zone, and she is Lovely.
DeleteGlad to hear the vacation went well and the new dog looks sweet! I see some German Shepherd? The torture racks look pretty nice! I always relate those to the Heroquest game, as that's the first time I saw most of them in miniature form. Plus it always made me wonder what they were there for?! The Crow's Cage immediately reminds me of Willow, again first time I saw something like that. I have to ask about the chair though. I think they had one in Heroquest, but maybe it was spiked? This one looks studded? Were the studs heated maybe?
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, yes very enjoyable time, being a rescue not sure on her heritage, but there is definitely a hint of Germen or Belgian Shepherd there. It's funny how we relate items to the first place we see them, and can totally see the reference points you mention. Having seen a real one of these chairs, I can say it is spikes that could be extended and retracted from underneath the bottom of the seat, depending how far they were extended no one was getting off there alive !
DeleteRetractable spikes? Yowch!
DeleteYeh, you would certainly got the point of that device ! LOL
DeleteThat's quite a contrast between torture devices and Angel, Dave! The terrain looks great to me. They also look like something you can paint up quickly which can be fun in and of itself. Angel looks like a sweet dog as well. She almost reminds me of a border collie with darker fur. Thanks for sharing your DVD collection with us too! I think I see one there that I want to watch next time I pop by ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, nothing wrong with a bit of contrast ! LOL The bits that took the most time were the skeletons, but as they are the focal points, they need the extra work. She is slowly coming out of her shell, and taking cues from our other dog, so I get two noses in the face now to wake me up in the morning ! LOL Just a small part of the collection, as we have over a 1000 DVD's, and you are welcome to pop over anytime mate !
DeleteStunning job on the torture equipment Dave, bloody but superb!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, probably not something I would have done for myself now so was an interesting set to do.
DeleteGreat work on the torture devices, they look properly horrifying! Your new dog looks very cute, hope you'll have a great time together!
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, something very different from what I would normally be working on, so was a fun exercise. She is slowly coming out of her shell, but it's a long road yet, we just have to be patient with her.
