No I haven't started work on my old Millennium Falcon toy, but I have finished some junk piles from my children's Kill Team set. I've only painted half the terrain as my daughter wanted to have a go on the other half, but as she is busy revising for her exams, she may get to them by June ! LOL I've gone for an overall rusty effect, then picked out some details that wouldn't be rust coloured.
These were pretty quick wins and actually fun to do, next up will be a Kill Team, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Another misleading title!

Those are nice piles of junk. As piles of junk go.
Thank you Stewart, I do like to keep people guessing ! LOL
DeleteTried to think about the times I wandered around scrapyards and how they looked.
That weathering is fantastic. Looking great!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, the bulk is relatively quick to do if a little messy, after a base of GW Rhinox Hide, I sponge on GW Mournfang Brown, then lightly sponge GW Tau light ochre, and finally stipple some silver on with a brush, then the details take longer ! LOL
DeleteGreat rust effect, Dave. Does this mean you're finally free of commission work and able to once again tackle your own lead mountain..?
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, since changing from GW fire dragon bright to the GW Tau light ochre I'm a lot happier with the result. Still have commission work on the go, but a manageable amount that still allows some time for my own mountain ! LOL
DeleteIts good to hear you're getting some painting help! These terrain pieces look very nice. It looks like something our friend, IRO, would enjoy, if he doesn't already have them in his collection. It also reminds me a bit of a few houses way out in the country I've driven past where they keep junk in their yard haha. This terrain would be right at home there, I reckon.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, when my children said about getting into wargaming, my wife and I both said it would be good for them to actually paint their own models, as it would mean they would take ownership of the models, and help in their skill base. I would imagine IRO has these, and I think Wudughast does as well ! LOL I have driven past a few houses in Florida heading towards the swamps that had the same ! LOL I've also seen the same in the UK ! LOL
DeleteThat's good to know that the UK has it too! Pretty much any rural area in the US can have humble abodes like that. And Florida gets weirder the further away from Tampa, Orlando, and Miami you get so I can believe it!
DeleteI think it's universal to be honest, and can be found in most countries, some third world countries the running vehicles look similar in colour to be honest, and they're just thankful to have a running vehicle.
DeleteThat rust is looking good, will be fun to see the comparison with the kids in the future!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, it will be interesting to see if she goes in her own direction, or just follows what I did.
DeleteExcellent looking junk!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain caveadsum1471
Thank you Iain, can never have too much scatter terrain ! LOL
DeleteThese are brilliant, Dave (metaphorically, not literally)! :-) Straight out of Steptoe & Son!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, indeed you'd need more than a wire brush and a can of WD40 to make these shine ! LOL
DeleteIt might just be the photos, but it's interesting to see a more yellowish (less orange colored) rust effect. Looks nice! I like those terrain pieces too, a nice piece of work by GW. Wow, I went back and looked hard for the skulls....and I don't see any?!
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, it is indeed less orange in hand, as I wanted it a bit more muted than you often see. Your eyes are not playing tricks on you, there is no skulls on this scenery, GW may have subed them out to someone else to make ! LOL
DeleteVery cool, the rust effect looks great!
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, been refining my recipe for a few years, but really happy with the results now.
