I wouldn't call my Rebel Transporter 100 % finished but it will look effective on the board. Obviously I still need to do the interior, but I also need to make some fill ins for the cutouts, but everything else on the outside is done.
Below is the reference picture for you to compare it to.
And here is what the toy originally looked like, if it had been complete.
Some may say I have ruined a classic toy, but as it was missing parts, I like to think I saved it, and gave it a new purpose. I will be doing the roundup in a couple of weeks time, so if life has got in the way, of posting, you wont be left out, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Splendid finish and a massive improvement as far as I'm concerned, lovely attention to detail!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, I think it looks a lot closer to the reference picture now, but there were a few areas, that were just too much to change, but close enough for me ! LOL
DeleteIt looks impressive. It wan't boxed, was incomplete so not worth that much in any case.
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, indeed but there will always be someone, he doesn't see it that way ! LOL
DeleteGreat job. It looks really good. I somehow didn’t realize that it started as a toy. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, it was a Christmas present from my wife a few years ago, which she got off Ebay, knowing what I wanted to do to it, she wasn't worried about it being incomplete, and neither was I, as the original wasn't perfectly shaped to represent the reference picture, but was a damn good starting point ! LOL
DeleteRuined? Improved more like. Finished piece is so effin cool! Great work Dave! Bugger those detractors and their negativity!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, it has been a fun piece to do, stressful at times, but worth it in the end. Just don't like upsetting the pure collectors, but these toys make great starting points ! LOL
DeleteLooks very good to me, Dave. It is a big piece though, as memory serves, so that's quite the table size if you're using it as a terrain piece. When do we get a pic of all your Star Wars stuff laid out - and do you have a table that can take the weight..? LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, yes it's over 2 foot long, I have a 6' x 4' table, and all the boards are my fibreglass ones, so can take plenty of weight ! LOL Lot more to make before I can show the Mos Eisley board layout, but I could probably do some of the desert scenes ! LOL
DeleteI can't overstate how good this looks and what a brilliant idea this is. The build looks great! And also enormous, lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mick, it's been a bumpy ride at times, but I've enjoyed it and what I learned from doing it.
DeleteYou definitely improved the toy, Dave. All the toys from when I grew up and (before my time too) really benefit from new paint. We can do so much better than machines or whatever painted them could. With that said, I love the scale photos. It really shows how impressive of a project this is. To outdo yourself, you're obviously going to have to take on a Star Destroyer next. And then, the Executor, and then the Death Star of course... :D
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, back when I first started getting Star Wars toys (1970's) the large pieces were all one colour, and then had printed card and stickers, like this one started with. For my next big vehicle I'm hoping to do similar with a Sandcrawler, which should equal this one in size, so you're other suggestions will have to wait for a while ! LOL
DeleteI agree, everyone said it, you most certainly saved the toy and improved it. Refurbishing it and giving it a new purpose is quite a clever move. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, I didn't fancy building it from scratch, so the toy route just seemed to make sense to me, plus it fits better in this scale I think ! LOL
DeleteStunning stuff mate! you'd never believe it started out as that toy.
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, it's been a long road from the original toy, some aspects I've been able to utilise, but some needed a lot of work to bring it up to the right level ! LOL
DeleteAmazing stuff Dave, I agree with Roger!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, we find what we can from any resource ! LOL
DeleteWell done getting it so slose to the photograp, a huge improvement on the toy !
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, it was a rocky ride at times, but happy with the end result.
DeleteCrikey, Dave, that really has come out well, which is not really surprising knowing how much work you put into these projects! :-) A sandcrawler sounds like a nice project as well!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, like with all your card creations, the attention to detail is the key on the end result. Wanted a Sandcrawler for a long time now, and Azazael pointed me in the direction of the last Palitoy one, but I missed it while it was available, this is a special edition one, that is only available from one place, and you have to get it in person, so it's taken a while, but this year should see me finally get my hands on one ! LOL
DeleteVery cool! All the colours on the transporter make it look "wrong" as first as I'm so used to the weathered beige look but you're dead on with the Tattooine reference picture. I'm tempted to go to work on a Sandcrawler one day, but the space puts me off. Then again, if I start getting Shatterpoint models painted it might be worthwhile. I do have what feels like a properly-scaled-for-minis Falcon, but it may be *too* big...
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, I know it just seems wrong to what we are used to seeing elsewhere ! LOL Hoping to do a sandcrawler myself later this year, and I've got the old falcon from Palitoy, that I would like to do at some point, might be a little small though ! LOL Have you got the one that came with the publication ?
