I had thought about calling this post "There She Blows" as it was the only whaling term I knew, but thought it might draw the wrong kind of attention ! LOL Today I have the next adventurer, from one of Dai's suggestions, a Nusco male called Lofus. I decided to make him a bit grizzled so have included a few scars on him, and kitted him out, so he is ready for anything.
I really like this character and may even promote him to captain of the crew. As you can see from the above pictures I've used some plastic tubing to help on the cylindrical shapes, but the rest is all greenstuff. That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Lofus looks so good! What a great vision you have to take my tiny suggestion and make it a full blown character like this! Definitely get the Orca vibe and that scar on his face is perfect!
ReplyDeleteMy only critique would be regarding his rocket launcher, it looks a bit plain perhaps? Like, perhaps needs some sort of sighting apparatus or some detail added to the side?
Thank you Dai, hoped he would meet with your approval, as it was your suggestion, the scar came from wanting to show his teeth without doing an open mouth model, plus added to his grizzled look ! LOL
DeleteThere is a targeting device next to his face, but is a little hard to see in the picture, but will have a look at the other side, to see if I can come up with something.
Very cool. Like Dai, I really get an orca vibe. It’s the shape of the head and dorsal fin that do it. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, I used an Orca reference picture while sculpting the face, but had to make a few subtle changes, like the ears and no blowhole, so I'm glad it still has the same vibe.
DeleteA formidable looking individual, Dave! :-) I really like it! In many cases rocket/missile launchers don't have a lot of external detail on them. If I had to add some details I'd maybe just add some stiffening webs on the smaller diameter middle section and maybe a cable running from the firing trigger up and back to a little plate on the rear section (transmits the firing signal to the missile).
ReplyDeleteThank you John, he's a real cutie really ! LOL Agreed on a standard launcher, have gone in and added some bracing in places, an additional vent port to help with gasses, and some cooling tubes, so as to help keep the tube temperature down, as the rockets being fired can obviously heat up the tube itself, will show the update with my next post.
DeleteIf you like a bit of dark humor you could name it Shamu because I've heard that Sea World used to rotate Shamus (as in, if one Shamu died, a new one became Shamu) so their most famous Orca could always be seen by visitors. Strangely that kind of logic works pretty well in wargaming since characters frequently get killed or "knocked out" in a game.
ReplyDeleteHaving said all that, this is a great sculpt and with some of the stuff I've read about Killer Whales lately, I'd say its pretty timely. Of course, who doesn't love a character with a rocket launcher too! Its fun to see you create all of these Sci-Fi minis and they're going to make for a great looking group when they're all painted up.
Thank you Jeff, yes the old it's dead quick switch it before the kids notice routine, never worked on me, as I'd spot the subtle difference on the markings ! LOL I'll have to make sure no miraculous recoveries on there adventurers ! LOL
DeleteI've noticed an upturn in their aggressive behaviour recently, killing Great White Sharks and attacking boats, as a species we need to be more respectful of our surroundings. The group is coming together, with all shapes and sizes in it, a very eclectic crew, which was what I wanted.
Haha, I also forgot that every Sea World had a Shamu and there were at least 3 locations open here in the States at any given time. Its amazing how that Shamu gets around! To be more serious, I completely agree with you on the recent news about orcas. Its sobering to say the least.
DeleteSo not only are these Orca's practicing Necromancy they can portal jump and duplicate at the same time, we need to keep a closer eye on them ! ROFL Nature is finding many ways to fight back, we need to be careful !
DeleteLovely sculpt, very characterful, I hope your bathroom issues are now solved!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, all the leaks are now fixed, and new bathroom furniture all fitted, just on the finishing details, which always seem to take so long ! LOL Really enjoyed doing this sculpt, taking Dai's idea and making it into a fully formed model, most of the way through his other ideas as well now, plus a few more of my own.
DeleteWhat a hulk of a creature, looking a bit shark-headed to me and another that;ll look great when painted up
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, can see that resemblance, and I'm looking forward to painting it up as well.
DeleteI love this guy! An orca with a rocket!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, a lot of the credit goes to Dai, for the idea, I just played with some greenstuff ! LOL
DeleteWell, we know that Orca don't F around, and this guy is clearly no exception! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazel, you're not wrong there, and the badass vibe works with him.
