WOULD YOU RADIATORS MIND STANDING BACK !

Two more models done for this years Forgotten Heroes 2022, these are the two Kelvin from the film Battle Beyond the Stars. There names were Ourim and Durim (not sure on the spelling as I can't find the names listed) . The Kelvin are a thermal race and communicate in degrees of heat, which can cause discomfort to many of the human cast. The Kelvin were part of Caymen's crew but were part of the planet defence force, and defeated the sonic tank the Malmori were using.

I made the first model, then took a cast to replicate for the second model, as they looked very similar in the film, and were always in the same pose at the same time. As I didn't have the restrictions of using real people as they did in the movie, I changed the nose a little, to make them look more alien. I've now also finished the three greens I showed last time, Caymen, Gelt, and Cowboy.

I've got another two greens on the go Shad and Quopeg, hopefully I can get them done and all the greens cast and painted before the end, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Very nice work mate, if you put these fig's on sale I'll have to get a set they are brilliant!

Never though of it before but perhaps that's why St Exmin wears so little clothing, because of the heat from the Kelvin, it was a plot device, and there was me thinking it was just Roger Corman using half naked women to appeal to young men! Boy do I feel foolish now!

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, hoping by the end of the month there should be a range of 8 models, leaving 1 hero and then some villains to do.
That is a very astound thinking there Roger, she must have stowed one away in her ship as well to explain the second outfit choice as well ! LOL That would make the prop guy sat behind make sense, he just forgot his costume ! ROFL

  2. I don't know what those things are, but you've done a great job with them - those new greens also look pretty sweet as well!

    1. Thank you Azazel, if you like cheesy cult classic movies, check out " Battle Beyond the Stars " where all of these sculpts are from. Wanted to add my own little twists to the characters, as I want to release these models.

  3. Those are creepy little buggers, if you ask me! You captured them very well in the sculpts however. Sometimes, I think I've seen a lot of what is out there in books, TV, movies, etc. but now that I see some of these sculpts from a movie I've never heard of, I am humbled! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, I think the originals were meant to be a bit creepy, so glad I could capture that. I'm always looking for Sci-Fi movies and TV that I may have missed, some are good others not so much ! LOL if you ever get chance to watch "the Humanoid" starring Richard Kiel (Jaws in the Bond movies) skip past it, a very cheap knock off of Star Wars, that George Lucas sued them over.

    2. Oh, I rather liked the Humanoid, it was another pairing of Richard Kiel and Barbara Bach (with a terrible hairstyle!). the kid was annoying though. There's an Italian one that's much worse! can't think of the name of it, but it has rip off light sabres , evil robots that are just guys in gold pageboy wigs and a terrible robot couple. Now what is that called.....

      Cheers Roger.

    3. Not sure but have seen it Roger, it's not Starcrash ( though they do have lightsabres) do you mean Star Odyssey perhaps, another Italian movie, as was Starcrash

  4. Yep looked it up and Star Odyssey is the one I'm thinking of. Not sure whether I want to thank you for pointing that film back in my direction or now though! 😂😂

  5. More wonderful work Dave, I barely remember these two from the movie (I haven't seen it in probably 30 years!) but I do like the idea that they can communicate by way of heat. I wouldn't like to get in the middle of an argument between them LOL!

    1. Thank you Matt, as only a small part of Caymen's crew, they would be easy to forget after 30 years. I can imagine a heated argument between them would make every one around extra crispy ! LOL

Nice work on these, Dave, and the crew's building up nicely! :-) I can vaguely remember seeing the Humanoid at the cinema, so that tells you how long ago it must have been!

    1. Thank you John, hoping I can get most of them finished before the end of the challenge. I remember seeing The Humanoid in the cinema too, but I then watched it later when it came out on video, and it didn't seem so good the second time around ! LOL

  7. That’s something of a fun idea; having a couple of creatures that use heat to communicate. Never seen that on Star Trek. Lol. 😀
Nice job on the creatures but what will you use them for I wonder?

    1. Thank you Stewart, as a movie they did use some unused ideas, but a lot were similar to other films.
As for their use, I could use them as background models in my Star Wars games, or play out a magnificent 7 scenario, and substitute the Malmori with stormtroopers.

  8. I'm enjoying this project so much! These are the minis we needed back in the day when these movies were rockin' it! So glad you are bringing the movie back to life :)

    1. Thank you Suber, I'm surprised that no other company has done any models based on this film, so happy to finally fill the gap, and agree it would have been very cool to have some models available back when the movie came out.

  9. If there is something I can rely on, it's one f your posts that will have something weird and wonderful and of which I have no knowledge!
Great representation of the two Kelvin from the film (which I haven;t seen).
