I'm back, I know it was a bit longer than I said it would be, but that was due to a broadband problem, not me being stuck in a foreign country ! LOL it's amazing how much catch up I had to do for being away from the internet for just two weeks, and took about 3 hours to go through all your lovely blogs, hopefully I haven't missed anyone's, but apologies if I have.
So where was I for week one, I was in very sunny Malta, now this wasn't just a holiday, as my son was competing in the European Kempo championships, he did very well and came home with 7 medals, 4 bronze and 3 silver, for different aspects within the discipline. We are so proud of all he achieved, and his excellent sportsmanship, going round and congratulating all who took part, and supporting all the rest of his team.
While we there we also got to take in some of the sights, including Blue Lagoon, several museums, I've included pictures below.
Now before I went away I managed to finish another squad for my Kroot, these are the females I've done to go in the hound unit, I made all their quills shorter, and went for a muted colour scheme compared to the males, lighter blue, no patterns and pale quills, in keeping with modern day birds.
FORGOTTEN HEROES 2022
Were almost two weeks into this event, so I'm a bit late posting up what I'm going to do. For this year I'm going to be working on some characters from the film Battle Beyond the Stars. The film was originally released in 1980 and was effectively the magnificent 7 in space, I've no idea how many I'll get done, so I'll just keep plugging away, and see how far I get, here are some greens I'm currently working on.
Next post will be for Roger's My Forgotten Heroes, where I will be showing the toys that I've still got from my childhood, so until then stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Nice to see you back, Dave! :-) Glad you enjoyed your break and the chance to support your son, sounds like he's done really well! Pictures and Kroot are good and I can remember Battle Beyond The Stars, but not when I last watched it! Looking forward to seeing your figures, they look good so far!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, nice to get away, but glad to be back, and super proud of his achievements. should have taken a lot more pictures, especially the WW2 museum and fort, but forgot ! LOL With no internet, I've had the film on constant loop while working on the models, and hopefully can get a few more done.
DeleteI absolutely adored Battle Beyond The Stars as a kid, so its great to see you covering a much overlooked space epic. I was a huge George Peppard fan at the time (due to A-Team and Blue Max) so thought his Cowboy was superb - and I was gutted that he died in the film. Good to have you back, Dave, and what an exciting post to get you back in the posting groove.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, always liked BBTS, and will be taking casts off the models to release, especially as I need 5 Nestor, and 2 Kelvin myself ! LOL He had some great lines in the movie, as did a lot of the characters. Hopefully with so many things covered in this post, there will be something for everybody ! LOL
DeleteGreat post., and good to see you back, Glad to hear you had a good time in Malta, I went over on holiday in the seventies, it was all lethal buses and impounded planes as restaurants back then! I seem to recall "Hooper" with Burt Reynolds was on at the only cinema on the island while I was there.😁 (strange what sticks in your head)
ReplyDeleteGlad your lad did well, though sadly I have no idea what Kempo is?
BBTS is a total classic! The figs look great so far mate, hope you get all the main ones done by the months end, sadly you wont be able to carry on with them next month, as there's some other silly challenge starting then, and the organiser is a bit of a jobs worth when it comes to rules!!! 🤣🤣
Cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, Malta is definitely somewhere I'd like to go back to, when I have more time to explore, can't say I actually saw a cinema, but we only really saw parts of 3 towns ! LOL
DeleteHe did very well, and Kempo has many forms of Martial Arts in it, including using weapons ( my son do Bo Staff, but could also have done nun chucks or knives or swords) the forms are similar to Karate, but they also do self defence in it as well.
The three shown are pretty close to being finished, have got Nestor the Kelvin, and St Exmin well on the way as well, hopefully will have time to do the rest as well. Will just have to send the boys round if the next challenge runner has a problem ! LOL
A big congrats on your son's achievements. That's quite a medal haul! And I'm very happy you had a good trip to Malta. I just got back from my own trip (a month in Lucca) -- but unlike you, mine was 100% vacation. Boy it was nice to get out of my house for the first time since Covid started!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your greens. Your sculpting ability always impresses me.
Thank you Matthew, he put in a lot of work, so was good to see his face when he earnt the medals. Malta was a lovely place, and would like to visit again, when I have the time, Hope you had a great vacation in Lucca, and it is good we are starting to be able to travel properly again.
DeleteHopefully the others will impress as well, and I've still got 3 I've yet to start, need to get cracking ! LOL
So many things to comment today!! First of all, congrats to your son, I believe that's an impressive achievement. Lovely pics, I've wanted to travel to Malta for ages, you made me want it even more! Cool Krooties, but the Battle Beyond the Stars stole the show! Looking forward to more!
DeleteThank you Suber, super proud of him, and all you did and achieved. Definitely worth a visit, and so much history to see, you could spend a month there and only scratch the surface. Really enjoyed doing the female Kroot, and another unit finished, only 3 more to go and the army is done. Such a cult classic, it had to be done ! LOL
DeleteGlad to see you back, Dave. Thought you might have got arrested or something! Congratulations to your son (and you as well as proud Dad). Very much looking forward to seeing your BBTS sculpts. That's a classic movie from our youth for sure!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, happy to say my bad boy days are long behind me ! LOL he did great, and overly proud dad. Indeed it is, so politically incorrect in modern days, but a very different time back then, hopefully I can deliver on the sculpts.
DeleteWith my current situation, I'd forgotten you were incommunicado, but great photos of Malta's fortifications ( hundred of years of history just there) and I do like seeing museums' armours.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the new task you;ve set yourself, but I reckon you're well ahead of thegameimho,.
Thank you Joe, can fully understand with the pain your in. There are so many different forts and look out towers to see around the island, it is so stepped in History.
DeleteHopefully I can get through a fair chunk, before the end of the month.
Congratulations to your son, Dave. Can understand why you've not been posting. Unfortunately, when my kids were competing, I never got to go anywhere as glamorous as Malta.
ReplyDeleteAnd Battle Beyond the Stars characters? Excellent choice and looking forward to seeing how many you get done.
Thank you Jez, he did very well, and know what you mean, I was lucky if I got to go to a different school field when competing ! LOL
DeleteGot 3 left to start, so we will see how I get on with the heroes ! LOL
Great to have you back, Dave, and congratulations to your son! Those Battle Beyond The Stars minis look amazing, I've always liked that movie since my dad took me to see it at the cinema back in the day. Can't wait to see how many more you manage to get done and see them painted up!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, he likes the praise and attention it's given him ! LOL They're coming along, and I'm looking forward to throwing some paint on them, just got to do a repair on the casting facility, so I can start getting some moulds done.
DeleteWow 7 medals! Congrats to your son and to you; the proud father. My children are still too young to have done anything cool or interesting yet…😀
ReplyDeleteHope it was an enjoyable 3 hours of catching up on blogs and not too tedious.
Thank you Stewart, we are very proud of all he's achieved, not just the medals but all he's had to overcome to get to this point, and everything your child does will be cool and interesting, to their parent.
DeleteWouldn't do it if it wasn't enjoyable, and enjoy reading all the blogs I follow, there is such a diversity within them all ! LOL
I'm glad you made it back home okay and sorry for your internet woes. Mine has been a bit spotty lately though no major outages to speak of, thankfully. Congrats to your son on his medals! Truthfully, I've never won much more than a single medal or trophy in my life at a time (and I can count how many times on one hand, maybe even on a finger or two) so he probably doesn't know how good he has it! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the armor you saw in Malta. I've only seen real medieval armor once or twice when I visited NYC and it really is stunning to see what people wore back then. I'm glad Malta treated you well too!
I look forward to more of the Sci-Fi minis. They seem to me to be heavily inspired by Star Wars (hard to believe that would get your attention, right?), but I've never heard of that movie so I look forward to learning more about it!
Thank you Jeff, a lack of internet can cause a lot of delays, but in the grand scheme of things a minor inconvenience ! LOL He did very well, and I know what you mean, only ever winning three myself ! LOL With the other medals and trophies he's won, he's already in double digits !
DeleteI do like Medieval armour, and if I spot some, will spend quite a bit of time looking at all the details, I was especially impressed with all the intricate scroll work on these.
I am a Star Wars fan, but also a fan of Sci-Fi in general, and I do have a soft spot for this movie, so a set of figures was inevitable just a matter of when ! LOL
Count me in. I have so many unfinished terrain projects!
DeleteGreat to have you on board Dave, I will add you to the list.
