MY FORGOTTEN HEROES 2022

Roger at rantings from under the wargames table has set a side challenge this year to run alongside Forgotten Heroes where we show the toys of our childhood that we still have, now I sadly don't have all the great toys I had, as I was convinced to part with a lot of them, if I hadn't I would be probably be sat on a small fortune ! LOL I do have a few bits left which I will show you now. First up is a set of Matchbox toys that were released in conjunction with 2000 ad the comic, and the first one featured in the Judge Dredd story "The Cursed Earth" where a group had to make the long haul from Mega City 1, to Mega City 2 to deliver vaccine.

Next up is another Matchbox model, the Eagle from Space 1999, I've long since lost the cargo pod, but wouldn't get rid of it.

Next I have a couple of pieces from Battlestar Galactica, first is a Cylon Raider

Next is a launch bay, that used to fire rubber Vypers, those have long since vanished, but I have an idea of turning this into some scenery.

Being a huge Star Wars fan, you probably expect loads of the original figures, sadly I have virtually none, other than the MT-7 vehicle

And the original Millenium Falcon, I do plan to utilise this for my gaming, and contemplating making an interior for it.

Now I haven't got much painting done this week, as I've been finishing the cake topper for my eldest daughters wedding this Sunday.

Quite pleased with the end result. Next time I will hopefully have more on my Battle Beyond the Stars project, so until then Stay Safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Hello,
The Space 1999 Eagle is actually a Dinky Toy. I still have mine and fortunately it’s complete.

    1. Thank you for the correction, as there were no markings left on the part I have. Nice that you still have the complete version

    2. Dave look on a well known internet auction site. They sometimes have the pods and you can get repro waste barrels etc.

    3. That is a great idea, and thank you for the idea.

    1. Thank you Suber, many fond memories with all of these ( maybe not watching my brother try to see if the flying car actually would fly ! LOL) Hope my daughter likes the topper, and should be a great day.

  3. Jesus, Dave, are you me? I had the Matchbox vehicles, the Cylon ship, the MT-7 and the Eagle LOL! All now sadly gone to the great dump in the sky. I really wanted that launch bay but never succeeded in persuading mum and dad... I mean Santa into shelling out on one!

    1. LOL Matt, we obviously had similar interests, and were lucky enough to get many of the same toys, I remember saving up two lots of Xmas and Birthday money to buy the falcon, as it was one I just had to have

Brilliant Dave! :-) I had that first 2000 vehicle and the Eagle transporter. What I always wanted (and never got) were a Captain Scarlet SPV and a SHADO Mobile unit! My wife's impressed with the cake topper!

    1. Thank you Johm, as you can see I had OCD even back then and wanted the whole set of 2000 ad vehicles ! LOL Those were some classy vehicles, sadly never had them either.
Thank your wife for me, will try to remember to take a picture of it on top of the cake.

  5. Haha, Matt's comment above gave me a good laugh! It is cool seeing these toys from your childhood and I'm glad I'm not the only one who has kept a few of them. If I did a post along these lines, I would have probably 20-30 Lego sets I'd have to build and photograph, a ton of Star Wars figures, it would be a serious amount of work!

    1. A lot of us of a similar age obviously had similar interests Jeff, and too be honest, before Star Wars the availability of Sci-Fi toys was very limited, so have to thank Star Wars for that. Great that you have held onto so much, I wish I'd held onto a lot more of mine, as I had all the Star Wars figures from the first 3 films to be released, in pristine condition (but not carded) ! LOL

  6. Cute cake topper there. My wife loves that sort of stuff. 😀

I wouldn’t have any toys to show as they’ve all gone to that playroom in the sky.

    1. Thank you Stewart, my daughter bought them, and asked if I could paint them up for her, and who was I to say no.
I was lucky to still have a few bits left, which had got buried at the back of my parents loft, and carefully hidden away since they moved, and I had to store them myself ! LOL

  7. Great post Dave, and thanks for joining in! I had/have? the first two vehicles, though never realised they were in conjunction with 2000AD, I've got two of the Eagle transporters, though mine are in the green (why Dinky would do these things in funny colours I'll never know!) and battered! Never had any Star Wars vehicles though, and they are very cool, as are the BSTG vehicles, I think my mate had the Cylon Raider as a child, along with the Viper too I think.

Cool cake topper, hope your daughter has a great day, and congrats to her.

    Cheers Roger,

    1. Thank you Roger, I think it was a way of advertising each others product, and hence the inclusion in the story, which ran for quite awhile. I did have the green one at one point, and agree it was weird the colours they chose. I only had a few of the vehicles as they took up so much space, which I was limited to, so there was only one other I had the AT-ST. The vyper I had was the multi change version, but that got used as scenery a long time ago ! LOL
The day went without a hitch, thank you, and now I'm trying to recover ! LOL

  8. Lovely work on the foxes, Dave! Congratulations to your family on the nuptials, and I'm sure your daughter will relaly appreciate the topper!
I recognise most of those old toys, I only had the MT-7 of them, but it's quite nostalgic to see them come up again here! :)

    1. Thank you Azazel, they fitted the cake perfectly, and my daughter gets to keep them as well, and the day went well, and got to try axe throwing as well as part of the entertainment between the ceremony and meal.
When I got the MT-7 I'd hoped to get the CAP-2 but the toy shop only had the MT in stock, and my patience was even less as a kid ! LOL

  9. Fun seeing these old toys. We had most all of the Star Wars figures and a few broken vehicles. Also had that Cylon Raider, that I really liked. Don’t the wings slide out to shoot a missile or two?

    1. Thank you Faust, for some of us a real trip down memory lane ! LOL I had collected one of every figure, but only had the two vehicles shown, plus AT-ST due to space constraints, and really wished I hadn't been convinced to sell them :( But live and learn, you are spot on about the raider, the wings do slide out to reveal missiles, the British version the missiles are captive so do not leave the ship, just pop.
