WHO LET THE DOG'S OUT

In this case it would be me, after finishing the Emperor's Children army, I wanted to keep the momentum going, and finish my Lost and the Damned army list, which can ally with the EC. The list came out during the 3.5 codex so works well with the other list, it comprises of a lot of the lesser beings that attach themselves to Chaos, including mutants, and traitor guard.

The first unit today is a unit of Chaos Hounds, these were my favourite release of the models, and I notice GW have tried to replicate this style with their latest plastic version, but I still think these metals are better.

Next I have the Big Mutants, I decided not to give them firearms, and use them as a close combat unit. The models came from an array of places, two were plastic Ratogres, another was a character Chaos Spawn, and the last 3 were possessed from Mordhiem.

The next unit are Chaos Spawn, originally spawn, were champions that had received too many gifts from there patron, but over time, it just became a unit you could take, by codex 3.5 you could actually use a Chaos power to turn an enemy into a Chaos Spawn, which is where the idea for these models came from, and as Khorne and Slaanesh were bitter rivals I had to turn a Khornate champion into a spawn.

This next unit is a squad of Obliterators, now GW described them at the time as :

Obliterators have dwelt too long in the eye of terror and have contracted a contagion that sears their flesh to their armour. Marine and armour become one entity growing down the centuries into hulking weirdly baroque leviathans able to reshape their forms to spew death at their enemies. Obliterators are no longer Chaos Space Marines instead they are an amalgam of Marine, Daemon and armour, each part inseparable from the rest.

After reading the description, I decided that their colour scheme wouldn't be the normal pink and black, but a more generic Chaos colour scheme.

Last today I have a Defilier, as a lot of the weaponry in this army can be quite weak, I wanted a couple of heavy hitters, so with this one and the previous unit, I can add a lot of firepower. I made a base for the model, to add some movement and a show it's weight and strength.

A lot of these models just needed their bases, but a couple needed to be painted and one actually needed the conversion finished as well. All I've got left to finish are the troops and leaders, but there are a lot of troops ! LOL

Will try to do some more Star Wars soon, at the latest May the 4 th , so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Wow! What an incredible assortment of old classic WH40K models, Dave. Plus a pair of Rat Ogres just for good measure, LOL!!. I've always liked the old Obliterator sculpts - though they don't seem to be well-thought of these days, and think your palette has definitely done them justice. Terrific posting.

    1. Thank you Simon, I like a lot of the older models more than the recent ones to be honest, and don't buy many of the newer models ! LOL The Obliterator rules have changed since this version, which has caused a lot of displeasure from people, and now you either have Obiliterators or Mutegators, one being shooty and the other combat, and the models now represent that, as I'm using the 3.5 rules, sticking with the older models made sense, wanted to show the rawness and constantly morphing aspect of the models in the colours.

    1. Thank you Iain, this force certainly has a lot of variation in it, as will become apparent when I show the rest.

  3. Liking all these conversions Dave. Next to Squats, Chaos is a firm fav in the GW world, more RT and 2nd Ed 40K for me though as stuff after that tended to get more silly and less chaotic imo.

    1. Thank you Dai, didn't always understand the changes the company went for either, I did like codex 3.5 as it brought a lot of the flavour back into it, promptly before it was all lost again, and all the legions became bland again ! LOL Do remember the good old RT books Slaves to Darkness, and The Lost and the Damned, where it had the most richness.

    2. Those two books still are my greatest inspirations where my Chaos projects are concerned. Falling to pieces and pages falling out from over-usage I admit, but still used!

    3. Unfortunately I lent my hard back copies of both to a friend and never got them back ! The stitching was great on those so never lost a page, just the whole books ! LOL

  4. Oh, I can spot some pretty cool conversions, I love them all. Really nice (and terrifying!) work

  5. I agree that the Chaos Hounds are some good sculpts! They just look like some nasty beasts to me :) The Defiler came out really nicely too. It is an intimidating vehicle that I would be tempted to blast off the table if I were facing your army, Dave!

    1. Thank you Jeff, the set before had a couple of great sculpts, but the rest were lacking, and the later ones just seemed odd, the latest set have the tell tell 3D sculpt on the fur so are a let down to these.
Defiliers are definitely fire magnets, I'm lucky if they get one or two shots off with them, before getting blown up ! LOL

  6. Those Chaos hounds are cool sculpts and look bloody terrifying! I love the mutants and Chaos spawn too, such horrible-looking sculpts which your painting has really brought to life. Great work, matey!

    1. Thank you Matt, when the sculpts are great, they are a pleasure to paint ! LOL the mutants are mostly basic models with only a little conversion work on some, the spawn a lot more, wanted the colours to represent where they came from.

  7. Another array of some particularly weird and no doubt terrifying on the tabletop, but for their simplicity and their mean demeaner, the hounds take the dubious honour of being m favourites of this bunch, though the defiler comes a close second.
The idea of changing an enemy into one of your minons made me chuckle and your obvious delight in doing so with the conversions too.

    1. Thank you Joe, can fully understand on the hounds as they really are some great sculpts, and glad you like the Defilier too as the base really made the piece for me.
It works as a distraction tactic as well, as when a player spots one of their own army as a spawn, they seem to get very upset, and don't know whether to shoot it or ignore it ! LOL

  8. The Lost & Dammed dex was one of GW's best IMHO Dave, so much imagination and you could just let your mind run wild 😊 as I see you have 👍🤣
It also gave us the Space Wolf' 13th company as well as two other army lists, one was an Eldar list and I think the other was IG.
A cracking bit of work & great to see such gems being put to use 😊

    1. Thank you Frank, agreed it gave a real diversity that was missing from the parent codexes, and was a converters dream ! LOL You are spot on with the contents, and each force received at least one new model, except Chaos unfortunately ! LOL
Hopefully I can surprise you with some of the troops and leaders I have left to show.

  9. Great, now I’m gonna have that song in my head all day.

Nice job on the miniatures. I especially like the defiler. 😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, sorry about the song getting stuck in your head, I only thought of it as my son had it playing in the kitchen on the day I wrote this ! LOL
I wanted the defiler to be almost like an icon for the whole army to rally behind, which is why it is covered in trophies.

    1. Thank you Roger, the joy of Chaos conversions, no one can say they're wrong ! LOL The obliterators needed a little work to finish the look, but I really went to town on the Defiler, to make it a real centre piece.

The Defilier is awesome, some really nice detailing - like the choice of colours🙂

    1. Thank you Justin, thankfully a lot of these just required basing to finish them off, I don't think I could paint that many models in a week ! LOL
As it didn't have any noise marine weapons on it, went with the standard pink with black details, the trophies came from multiple sources, with some being scratch built.
