WARPED SENSE OF PERFECTION

As you will have read in my last post, the Emperor's Children were constantly striving for perfection, and were easily manipulated to follow chaos through their arrogance, especially their primarch Fulgrim. When I started this army I knew I wanted a Demon Prince to lead the army, so why not Fulgrim himself.

The model started as Brother Artemis from the Inquisitor range, to give the size I wanted, the tail came from the wood elf dragon, the bottom arms were from the original Keeper of Secrets model, and the wings came from the LOTR fell beast. I wanted his armour to have nods to his Primarch armour, rather than a Demon style armour.

Above I've included some detail shots as well, I repainted the wings this week as I wasn't happy with them before, and now happy to call them finished.

I've also finished the last 3 Noise Marine Terminators

And here is the rest of the squad.

I've also got all my Noise Marine bikers based.

Now some of you may be saying but you can't have noise marine bikers and terminators Dave, well in the current rules you'd be right, but back when Chaos armies had differences between each force, you could, and so I'm sticking with it.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. I'll be the one who says "you can whatever you like" and the whole force looks superb imho.
Fulgrim is a wonderful conversion and looks as good as any GW piece I've seen, lots of detail and no sign that it comes from so many other bits and pieces. Love all the detailing on the base and the figure itself - you must be so pleased with this.

  2. Thank you Joe, and indeed your not wrong, luckily we don't seem to have rule pureists commenting on here.
Super pleased to have him finished, as he's been 90% complete for so long, just wasn't happy with the wing membranes until now, and so glad he looks to be a standard model with so many donor parts.

  3. Good stuff, Dave. They all look corking paint-jobs to me, and its clear you're enjoying the project. Need to find something like this to get my mojo back tbh. Keep up the great work :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, it was the realisation, that I have so many unfinished projects, that I really needed to get some completed, now I know that my Star Wars and Night Hawks are gonna be ongoing for a long time, so actually focusing on some of the armies that I have no intention of expanding, will actually see some completion, has actually helped ! LOL Hope you find your enthusiasm soon, maybe paint something that you really want could help ?

  4. Wow - very impressive conversion and painting work on the Daemon Prince, Dave! The EC squads and army also look really sweet. It's also quite possible that those units will return in an "official" capacity for those who seem to need that when the Emperor's Children codex makes its inevitable appearance. (Along with the World Eaters!)

    1. Thank you Azazel, feel a lot happier with the DP now the wings look better. Not too worried about GW making them official again, as I'll be using them at home, although I'm sure my daughter would be pleased to finally get an official World Eaters codex ! LOL To be honest most of my armies now are no longer official in GW terms, but I like them and will continue to play them as is.

  5. Fulgrim turned out great, I love the clever use of bits and the whole composition. Pretty cool! Of course there's nothing wrong with Noise Terminators and bikes in my book, I really like what you got on all of them!

    1. Thank you Suber, the use of the Dragon tail, actually gave me easy fixing points for the second set of arms, with where it's back legs were. Indeed, and if your happy playing with them, why stop ! LOL

  6. You pulled the wings off a poor DEFENSELESS fell beast??!! You monster! Doesn’t matter that the miniature looks marvelous (and it does) but a fell beast without wings is just a Komodo lizard. 😀

    1. Technically I never stuck them on Stewart ! LOL I will one day build him a better set of wings that match the movie version better, with more accurate textures, especially as it's the Witch King

  7. I really like the colors on these Dave 😀 I'll be honest though and say I know absolutely nothing about these figures or lore, so I have to ask are those men in suits or are they some kind of hybrid human?

    1. Thank you Ivor, when they were loyal space marines, they were genetically enhanced super humans in suits, when this chapter turned to Chaos they then medically changed their faces, often to make large gaping maws to use sonic attacks, and over time they have been warped by the effects of Chaos, so a bit of both ! LOL

  8. Lovely work on all these, Dave! Your Fulgrim is superb, an amazing conversion and a great paintjob, and the Termies look suitably nasty!

    1. Thank you Matt, as you said recently on your blog the new chaos can look all the same, unless you convert everything ! LOL

  9. Wow, Dave. So much is great about this. I love the dead, skeletal marine on the base and the conversion work on Fulgrim is wonderful. This model may have inspired one of my Monster Mayhem choices for this year...
Also, I love Space Marine bikes. I never got to include them in my army and it's my understanding that they get shot up a lot; but who cares? They look wicked cool!

    1. Thank you Keith, glad you like all the details, this was the first army, I really put any work into the bases, before that, was happy to have just the basics. Should have thought to save this one for Monster May(hem), but glad it inspired one of your choices.
Always liked the bikes, but really wanted to have noise marine ones, just to be different, and yes they are a bit of a fire magnet, but then so is a lot of the other elements I've put in the list, so should keep most opponents busy ! LOL

    1. Thank you Dai, I took the inspiration for him, from the Visions of Heresy books, and combined his original look as a Primarch with his demonic version. Glad it fits your idea of him too.

  12. These are some great looking models but that leader is really a clever piece of work, Dave! I had some Terminators from around the same era as yours and seeing them reminds me a lot of how I did mine. I used a bit more dark gold but other than that, I used the same color scheme so once again, I'm feeling very nostalgic thanks to you! :D

    1. Thank you Jeff, a friend of mine suggested the tail, as I was looking at plastic snakes at the time, and once he had sowed that idea, it all suddenly made sense. Can't go wrong with the classics, although two came from other sources, the one with the banner started off as Abaddon, and the leader, was an Imperial captain model ! LOL Nice to know we had similar ideas, and glad I could bring the nostalgia for you.

Nicely done, Dave! :-) Fulgrim is brilliant and I'm always going to like bikes (even pink ones)!

    1. Thank you John, he was very disjointed when it started, but once the details got made, it tied him all together. Bikes are always cool in my books, although when doing real ones I'd never paint it pink ! LOL
