FINNISH WITH A BANG

So here is the last post for my Emperor's Children army the flyers, now anyone who has been following my blog for awhile will know I love flyers, so I would not be doing this army justice without a couple or 3.

First up is the Hellblade, a Chaos fighter that was sold by Forgeworld, and as such, has some crisp detail, and quite a lot of it, which I don't mind. I went for my basic pink and black scheme for this one, and the base is a metal one, which keeps the model nicely balanced.

Next is a converted Helldrake, it normally has a lot more wings on it, but I thought it would look better with wings closer to the Forgeworld flyers.

Last today is the Helltalon bomber, I wanted a more elaborate colour scheme for this one, so I did the Slannesh symbol across the top of the wing, and then reversed it for the other side, after I'd painted it in the basic purple, I realised it needed something more, so I added swirling souls over the symbols, hopefully you agree it stands out now.

I had to make a replacement canopy for this model, as the original got lost when we moved house, but I actually like this one more, it looks sleeker. This brings to a close the Emperors Children, I do have a demon army for Slannesh to finish and a Lost and the Damned army that will work with the EC, but I'll show those when their done, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Wow, I don't know where to start, this post is a crescendo of good stuff! The wings on the Helldrake are ace, well seen, I like the overall shape. But wow, this last Helltalon is out of scale in the awesometer! You certainly have an army worth of Slaanesh!

    1. Thank you Suber, my thinking on the Helldrake was to make it a demonically possessed fighter, so the wings needed to look closer to the Hellblade. As for the Helltalon, just wanted to elevate the poainting as the Forgeworld model was already an awesome piece in it's own right,

  2. Wow, Dave, the lost souls on the Helltalon are an amazing bit of painting! They all look great in the pink and black, and will make the Prince of Pleasure very happy. Can't wait to see your Lost and the Damned army!

    1. Thank you Matt, I did regret the design about half way through, but glad I pushed on through, as they really stand out. Funny you should mention the Lost and the Damned list, as I've been looking through that this evening, so don't be surprised if you see some very soon.

    1. Thank you Joe, wanted all 3 to tie together, but each have a unique feel being Chaos, sounds like I achieved that, so thank you.

  4. Always liked the hellblade model and regret not getting one back when I had my plague marines army. Yours looks pretty sweet, as does the ‘drake, but that bomber’s paint job!? O_o just wow Dave! Simply awesome painting

    1. Thank you Dai, agree when it came out, I loved it, as it was very different to what was available for loyal space marines, I like the Drake more now, I started doing the standard colour scheme on the Talon, but felt it needed a little more reverence, due to it's size.

  5. These look so cool! The swirling souls look amazing, Dave! That reversed Slaanesh symbol is something I would never be able to do without a template. Not in a million years!

I got out of 40K before Flyers were a thing (eldar grav-tanks don't count), so I missed all these cool models. I have no idea how they work in the game, either.

    1. Thank you Keith, the symbol is a collection of geometric shapes, so I drew it out in pencil first, and then painted in the shape, which was how I knew it needed a bit more to it.
The flyer rules in 40K are still a little broken in my opinion, which I'm hoping to fix with the rules I'm working on.

    1. Thank you Stewart, I think Forgeworld did an excellent job on these, and once I changed the wing setup the Drake fitted in a lot better.

  7. As Simon would say "Awesome Sauce", both are brilliant but the "souls" on the wings of the hellblade are above and beyond mate!!!

    Cheers Roger.

  8. Really nice work on this ship, Dave! It looks evil with the floating skulls on it and perfect for a chaos space marine as well. Its been fun seeing all the Emperor's Children minis the last couple of weeks I'm curious and excited to see what comes next!

    1. Thank you Jeff, the swirling skulls seemed a bit over the top, when I had the idea, until I saw how many skulls you find on a loyal marine ! LOL Glad you've enjoyed seeing all the Emperor's Children, as I'm certainly glad to have them all finished now, I have a brief interlude of Star Wars, then I'm determined to complete, one of the allied armies to this one.

Crikey, Dave, these are brilliant! :-) You've almost converted me into wanting to have more pink in my armies!

    1. Thank you John, it can be an effective colour, but I can't imagine much call for it on your historical models ! LOL

  11. You certainly went out in style with this one Dave, the two FW flyers are lovely models, I did own the the smaller one myself at one stage for my Word bearers army.
The Helldtake is a strange model as people always seemed to love it or hate it, but your conversation tries it in nicely with the other two, well done 👍😊

    1. Thank you Frank, The Forgeworld models are beautifully sculpted, Word bearers you say, that must have been a colourful list using the 3.5 codex. When I first saw the Helldrake, I was like what the hell is up with all those wings ! But after looking at all the parts, realised I could bring it more in line with the FW flyers.
