At the beginning of the challenge I said I wanted to complete some models based on characters from 2000 ad including some Judge Dredd models, now I'm still working on the robot bikers (really struggling on these at the moment !) I have got 6 Judge models finished, they all models from Mongoose Judge Dredd line, and the first 3 were a gift from my friends at Miniaturemen.
First is an SJS Judge, for anyone who doesn't know who they are, they are the Judges of the Judges, a futuristic version of Internal Affairs in the police.
Next we have Chief Judge Cal, also known as a bit of a madman and twisted the law to his own purposes, until finally killed by Fergie.
Next we have a Sov Block Judge, they reside in what used to be Russia.
The next 3 models came from Bryan Scott (Vampifan) when I went up to visit him, as he thought they would be great additions to my collection. The first one is a Med Judge, personally I think the pose on this model is a bit weird, like he's drunk or got the worst case of IBS on record ! LOL
Next we have a Jimp, now for anyone who has not read the comics, this is a Judge impersonator, some do it for gain, others because they feel justice is lacking in their area, whatever the reason, they don't seem to last long.
This last one is apparently a rare model according to Bryan, and to be honest I've not seen it listed anywhere, is a Space Judge. Finding a reference picture was impossible, so I went with a colour scheme that I thought was fitting/
Now I really need to get the bikers finished, unless I get distracted again ! LOL
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Terrific posting, Dave, absolutely love 'em, and always interesting to see the Judges when someone paints their uniform blue - personally I don't mind either colour albeit I use black for ease, LOL!!! That final figure is the Space Corps Judge. I have at least one myself, and if you google-fu it, you should see lots of wikis/pics of them. I've attached a link to WGs official paint-job, but if you start reading up about them they wear all sorts of different attire/equipment etc. https://www.warlordgames.com/rp_jd20029-space-corps-judge-jpeg/ I actually prefer the suits worn during the 1994 series "The Corps", but this figure is closer to the Genetic Infantry uniform etc. Anyway, enough nerdiness from me, LOL!!!ReplyDelete
Thank you Simon, I don't mind doing black, but like to keep it for the SJS judges, as another difference to the normal Judges, and always remember in the comics them using blue to highlight on the colour panels, so it was just a natural progression for me, but both work well and I think both can look good.Delete
Thanks for the information, on the space corps, not a million miles off with what I painted, so I shall call him finished ! LOL
Lovely work Dave, really nice models too.ReplyDelete
Thank you Michael, was good to get them finished, just need to work out where I'm going to go with this project.Delete
Lovely paintwork on lovely models! I’ve got that SJS mini in my backlog, I’m just still waiting to find the perfect Dirty Frank to go with him...ReplyDelete
Thank you myincubliss, it is a great sculpt, can see why finding a good Dirty Frank, has been difficult to find.Delete
Excellent collection of Judges, Dave, they all look great!ReplyDelete
Thank you Matt, there are some world Judges I would like to have, but no one has made a model of yet.Delete
Oh, I do love these! All these sculpts should look quite similar, but they somehow manage to instil personality, they all have a charm of their own, and that's great. Lovely work on them!ReplyDelete
Thank you Suber, the sculptors did a great job on adding a lot of character into the sculpts.Delete
Nice! Good to see some Dredd figs getting a lick of paint, and they look great.ReplyDelete
I need to go find that Minty
Thank you Dai, if I ever get these robots finished there will be some more by the end of the month ! LOLDelete
I was very taaken by the range of JUdges when they first came out and still have a single judge, plus bike somewhere. Money however was in short supply and the idea never really came off. My group played a JD board game and I have the original JD rpg somewhere.ReplyDelete
I like all these figures (of course) though I hadn't heard of many of them. No doubt Bryan had a vast number of such models.
Thank you Joe, I know what you mean about the cost, as I didn't buy any Judge models until it was being phased out, so missed out on some I would have liked to have got.Delete
Bryan did indeed have a very large number of all the models, his spares boxes were almost as large as his painted collection.
Lovely work on all the various uniforms, had no idea there were so many different types of Judge, though I was never that big a "Dredd" fanboy tbh, Bryan was the expert when it came to all things Dredd!ReplyDelete
Thank you Roger, Within Mega City 1 there are multiple different judge uniforms, for the different roles alone, then throw in the different uniforms for all the other places left in the world, you have a huge task getting one of each type ! LOLDelete
Bryan was indeed very up on his Judge Dredd, and proudly showed me his prize possession, the manta prowl tank, which was only available for a limited time period.
Yes only a total idiot would try and collect every uniform, it would be like trying to collect all the characters from a film franchise or something wouldn't it!!😁Delete
Totally, glad we don't know anybody like that, they'd be mad ! ROFLDelete

Nice work on these, Dave and this is quite a collection you have too. Judge Dread is one of those things I should watch one day to see what the fuss is. I know that people a bit older than me tend to really like it and so I have to think that maybe I would too :)ReplyDelete
Thank you Jeff, I do have quite a few models for this collection, and really need to decide what direction I want to go in for gaming.Delete
As for the films, a lot of the fans of the comics wished they had the backdrop, and technology from the first film, (Stallone) mixed with the performance of Dredd and Anderson from the Karl Urban version, I personally agree with this, but a better villain, than the second movie.
6 more models done Dave, your a machine mate 👍ReplyDelete
Thank you Frank, never used to be able to paint this quick, was lucky if I could get a model painted in a week ! LOLDelete
Great looking collection of judges!ReplyDelete
Thank you Iain, out of all my collections my Judge Dredd is probably the smallest, which I may need to rectify ! LOLDelete
Great work on these Judges, Dave - I agree that going with the blue highlights matches the comics best - even if the result turns out to be Red-Blue-Green-Yellow, it still matches the source material and looks good. I can easily see how to someone unfamiliar with the comics the whole thing could look quite garish compared to the films, though!ReplyDelete
I've just glued a few judges to their bases and sprayed them this morning. See you soon, Perp!
Thank you Azazel, it all falls on personal preference, and enjoy seeing which way people go, I once painted a set of Arbites in the same colour scheme, for use in a Necromunda game, most of the kids didn't get the reference, and thought they were garish ! LOLDelete
Excellent news mate, look forward to seeing them.
Yep, I always wanted to unify my Arbites and Judges with if not the exact same scheme, something adjacent enough that they still fit together. OF course, I'd have to actually finish painting some of them in order to have that happen! :DDelete
Wish I still had my Arbites, but sold them a long time ago, as they could have worked well with the Judge models I have, actually had 3 squads, one with riot shields and mauls, a shotgun squad and a bolter squad. Just think 1 model painted is a step closer to the goal.Delete
Very cool slelection of Dredd miniatures. I appreciate the background notes,as I am not familiar with the universe.ReplyDelete
Thank you D&B, appreciate that not everyone will know all the models shown, so thought a little background would be helpful.Delete
