No I haven't finished more robots, but rather a unit of Tatooine Stormtroopers, I got these at Christmas, and wanted to push the painting of them further than my early ones I did, this means at some stage I will probably revisit all the Stormtroopers I've already painted, but that will be a project for another time.
As you can see above I've painted the shoulder markings in black which is the designation for trooper, and one in white to designate a sergeant, in the movie " A New Hope" there was a lot with orange which is meant for Captain's, with such an important mission of finding the stolen plans of the Death Star, they may have felt compelled to play an active role in finding them.
Next up is General Veers, who was the officer responsible for blowing up the shield generator on Hoth, as you can see from the reference picture above I've tried to match his colour scheme.
Last up today is an Imperial Comms technician, I've based his colour scheme from the above reference picture.
Next time I should finally have the robot bikers finished to show you, as I've just got a couple of details left to do, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Great work, Dave! The troopers look good, and I never knew that the orange shoulder thingy denoted a captain; I just thought it was a squad leader. You've got Veers' colours right and the comms tech is an interesting figure... can he shoot better than the troopers? LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, I wasn't sure on the shoulder pad colours so checked it on Wookiepedia, apparently there is a blue one for snipers as well. Veers was tricky to match, and a lot depends on the contrast setting on the reference picture ! LOL Not sure many imperials can shot straight, but Mayfeld may take exception to that comment ! LOL
DeleteMarvellous posting, Dave. Love them all, especially Veers as I've painted him myself. He has a terrific backstory/future story too beyond the films. Lovely stuff on the Stormies too - I always thought the orange meant Sergeant, so I thoroughly enjoyed your clarification of the different colour status'. As you say, makes sense for a Captain or two to turn up on Tatooine when the Dark Lord of the Sith is behind the mission, LOL!!!

I wanted to check on the shoulderpads, as I had seen the orange, white and black in the scenes in the first film, and no one would want to disappoint a Sith Lord ! LOL

ReplyDeleteVeers is a character that I felt deserved more screen time in the trilogy. This mini portrays him perfectly tho and the Imp Comms Officer looks rather similar to a regular Naval trooper, but with a backpack? Just saying lol

DeleteThere was a lot of officers that could have been used more in the original trilogy, where the books and comics really developed up. Have to agree on the comms officer ! LOL
They all are enjoyable indeed. Maybe Veers is my favourite from this batch, but they all look great :)

DeleteGood sculps all round with some very casual looking stormtroopers that don't know what they're facing. General veers and the techie look great and very well done getting them ot look like their screen counterparts.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, Fantasy Flight games have one some great work on their sculpting and really captured the characters perfectly. Was pleased with the colour matching on these two, they were actually started first after Christmas, but wanted to make sure they were finished properly, so didn't rush them.

DeleteSmashing work Dave, you can't have too many imperials (well they drop like fly's to be honest!). That last reference picture looks a little odd to me, it almost looks like a model rather than a actual human being, but if it is the face is fantastically well done!

DeleteGreat work on these Imperial troops. I'm pretty sure that the current pauldron colour coding came *much* later, much like how Aurubesh works :D - but these guys look the part regardless!

LOL Having rewatched the films many times now, can safely say black is in there, and white is very scarce but there, so could have been originally that white was the captain ! LOL
DeleteYep - black, white and orange. And the orange ones stand out the most because Orange (another good reason for them to NOT be captains, if the people making up the SWEU thought about things for more than a half-second)!
DeleteVery true mate, very true. There is a 4 th according to wookiepedia which is blue, for snipers, but would make the most sense to be black ! LOL
