THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY !

A film title like above probably would be unacceptable in modern times, But I don't think the facially challenged has the same ring to it ! LOL

Have finished 5 of the gang members for the werewolf character I showed a little while ago

First up is Snapshot Sal the female snake woman, and one of the quickest draws in the West. I've gone for a pale rattlesnake colour and markings, to add some different tones to the group, and added dark clothing as a contrast.

Next is Cry Baby Spike, so named for his self defence attribute where he can squirt blood from his eye to be able to escape, I've added a red teardrop just in front of his eye to show this.

Next up is Old Gill, hence he carries a shotgun as his sight isn't what it used to be. His white shirt was contrast paint over an off white base which gave a grubby feel, which I liked.

Next is Sharpshooter Rick, who is the crews marksmen, he doesn't like to get too close to the action.

Last today is Gator Hundee, prefers using his shotgun and blade, as his large hands struggle with the pistol, but will use if needed.

Here's a group shot to show all the different sizes of the crew and all will be available from the webstore by the end of the month. I am currently working on the last one for the group, as well as The seven mounted Orc's, and hope to have them all finished in time for Ann's paint the crap you already own painting challenge

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Well its clear you've been busy, Dave. I think the Salamander is fave of the bunch, but they all look good. Some nice paint-jobs too, with the blue shirted raccoon making him really stand out from the rest of the group.

    1. Thank you Simon, always good to keep busy, stops me getting in trouble ! LOL I would have a hard job picking a favourite to be honest, but at a push possibly the regal horned lizard, as one of my favourite lizards

  2. These are really nice and I would have never thought of doing lizards as western characters. It kind of makes sense when you think about how cold blooded someone had to be to survive in the wild west! I really like how the raccoon turned out the way he struts around with his gun. Eye sight or no, I like his confidence :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, indeed the old west was a tough place, so I think these guys fit in perfectly. The white dots are supposed to be glints in his eyes, but it's hard to make out the rest of his eye in the picture, being black on black, but that's why they have those markings, so I guessed it worked ! LOL

  3. A very nice looking bunch of cold-blooded wranglers!

Crybaby Spike stands out the most for me. Really like the colours you've gone with on him.

    1. Thankyou Dai, I do like reptiles and snakes.
All the colours were taken from real versions, but it's amazing the variation you can find in each species

  4. Love these guys, Dave! Full of character and really unique looking. I just love how you've put a lizard, a snake, a raccoon and a bloody alligator in cowboy gear and they don't look strange or out of place at all! Cry Baby Spike has to be my fave, he looks awesome, with Sharpshooter Rick a close second.

    1. Thank you Matt, I find if you make small tweaks to the body form to bring it closer to human stance, it looks more believable, than fully upright.
was pleased with aspects of all of them, but there's always room for improvement ! LOL

    1. Thank you Joe, indeed that could be true for several of the characters, venomous bite with the rattlesnake and Gilla monster, which I may have to include in their rules

  7. That is a neat gang. It would be fun to think of a scenario where they are the good guys, whether just to turn things around or because the things they are fighting are just that awful, e.g. for example they come into town and do the usual out of control stuff, breaking up the saloon, etc. etc. and the townspeople want them gone but then something happens to where they are the only ones, in fact, who can save the town and in doing so themselves as well when the Bones Gang shows up via Ole Pete, who reconstitutes the gang by planting a bunch of special chicken bones in Miss Rose's garden in back of the general store.

It is pretty neat that not only did you paint them, you created the miniatures as well. If the snake woman is only "one of" the best guns, I'd hate to see the fastest! Maybe the sheriff in Whichita, who is a mongoose person?

    1. Thank you Ann, love the scenario idea, may have to steal that one ! LOL
Wanted to add to the weird west idea, but not take away from Minaturemen's thunder, so talked about it with them before doing the models, even though Gary was happy for me to do more Orc's I've left that as their thing and will continue doing stuff that compliments rather than copy their ideas. Like the idea of a Mongoose sheriff, may have to do that one, and currently working on an idea for some tribesmen.

    1. Thank you Simon, as each of the creatures have very specific textures, it helped sell the look, and Gilla Monster colours are great

  10. These miniatures are so cool, Dave. Love your work on them!
Between what IRO is doing with his Coffinwood project and whet you're doing here, you're making me want to buckle down (or saddle-up) and tackle the Old West project I've been putting on hold for years.
I DID recently paint up a certain resin gunslinger from Wargames Terrain Workshop, though...so I managed something, at least.

    1. Thank you Keith, I blame Roger, Dave and Luke for getting me started on this ! LOL It becomes infectious so so many other cool wild west projects.
I look forward to seeing your results, and as you say you have managed something.

  12. Great stuff Dave! I didn't think it was possible to get more unique figures than what you've already posted but boy was I wrong - a pistol packing rattlesnake, a racoon with a rifle and a crocodile with a Bowie knife... amazing 😀
