ROGER ROGER

No I'm not hailing our good friend Roger, I'm declaring my first squad of B1 Battle droids finished. These are pretty much straight from the box, with two arm swaps as the unit has two duplicates in it, and I do like variation.

I chose not to add any markings other than the leader droid as this was the way they appeared in the first two films. The colour scheme is quite time consuming but effective in my opinion, I also chose to do the bases different to my Imperial Assault models, to define which models are for which system, and this is how my other boards are done.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Good looking force with some very heavy weaponary. Picking out the detail on these must have been a pain bt the effect is excellent.

    1. Thank you Joe, yes the multi layering process is very time consuming on the last layer as it's extremely thin paint to allow the tan colour to leach through in places. their standard blasters are okay gaming wise but the missile launcher certainly packs a punch, shame their not very good shots or thankfully depending which side your playing ! LOL

  2. Wonderful Dave, the colour is spot on & well worth all the effort you put into them, but sorry to say I have point out that their not finished, as I don't see one with 3CPO's head on it. lol

    1. Thank you Frank, glad you liked the effort, if I ever do the battle at Genosis I will have to make one, and the one with C3PO's body as well ! LOL

  3. Lovely work as always Dave, the extra effort you've put into the weathering and shading really pays off, I like the way you've done your bases too (except that they are slottas! spit spit!), I was frankly disappointed with these robots in the film however after they couldn't kill bloody "Jar Jar!" They could have saved the early series then ands there!

    Roger Roger out.

    1. Thank you Roger, glad you like the weathering and bases, there not slota bases, but a solid plastic, which does mean you can position the model how you want on the base. B1 droids are even less accurate than stormtroopers, which is saying something ! LOL
If they had killed off Jar Jar they wouldn't have had someone so easily manipulated in the senate to get Palpatine's plans in motion, so understand why they didn't. The fan theory that he is actually Sith puts him in a whole new light ! LOL

    2. I'll let you off the bases then (just), we were talking about Star Wars the other day at work, and why the Stormtroopers are all dressed in that white armour that appears to serve no useful purpose at all! it doesn't stop lasers an doesn't even help if you get bonked on the head with a stick! I guess it's just there in case you hit your head on a door as you enter a room (LOL). So I guess you can forgive them being bad shots when they cant see very well through those tinted eye holes.

Jar Jar was a Sith!, does make a sort of twisted sense when you think of it.

      Cheers Roger.

    3. In the cartoon series Star Wars Rebels, Rex an ex clone trooper, actually comments on stormtrooper armour saying it's a pale comparison to Clone armour, did you hear the clunk in the extended version of new hope which they added in when his head hits the doorway ? LOL
Yeh he goes from clumsy fool, to mass anarchist ! LOL plus he has yellow eyes which is a sith trait

    4. Certainly did, I have to say it was one of the few "changes" made in the new edition versions that I approved of!

The originals are still better for me.

    5. I liked the additional aliens in the cantina scene, and enjoyed the additional approach to Mos Eisley, plus the additions to Jabba's Palace, the rest not too fused about, but would watch both versions happily

  4. They look excellent, Dave, truly excellent. I've yet to assemble mine as I heard they're somewhat difficult to assemble due to their small limbs. Your palette is spot on too.

    1. Thank you Simon glad you like them, can give you the recipe if you want so you can paint yours. they can be quite tricky, but would recommend checking out Fantasy Flight's online guide, it has a lot more detail than what comes in the box. also wait for the legs to dry fully before starting to add the upper pieces ( found that to my cost ! LOL)

    1. Thank you Iain, I might go a stage further on the second batch, to help differentiate between the two squads, while keeping them close enough to use as one big unit

  6. Are you saying Jar Jar is a bad guy, well that's ok, I never liked him. ;)

It's a good idea to keep the 2 squads similar but slightly different.

    1. Thank you John, agree it means they can be more versatile this way. My wife last night was reading a post on Facebook, and said you didn't say that Jar Jar had turned evil in the Mandolorian, to which I replied that's because he hasn't been in it, you've just had fan theory fake news ! But it would make a lot of sense in the trilogy of movies that he was a rival Sith, and using his cover of being a bumbling fool so Palpatine can't detect him ! LOl
