DEADLOCK

The next warrior to be conjured up is Deadlock, a long serving character in this franchise, having only missed 1 incarnation, Nemesis book 4 the Gothic War, in which Nemesis took the place of Deadlock ( probably didn't want two with the powers of the mystic arts running around), he also had a one off story on his own, which can be found in the graphic novel "The solo missions"

He has long been one of my favourite characters and again I've based the model and painting from Clint Langley's work, although I have added a nod to the Khronicles of Khaos book with him casting a demonic apparition, he is very different in pose and style to any model that has been released of him previously, which is why I was able to make him as part of Forgotten Heroes.
That's all for this post, while I work on two more robots, and two humans, plus a slug to finish the set, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave

  1. I well remember "Nemesis", though I found the illustrations of him very distrubing and I doubt I ever read the story line; hence I don't rememeber deadlock at all !
It's a great sculpt and must have taken a long time to finish off, especially as you made it mre difficult for yourself with the demonic entity
emitting from his hand. The few splashes of colour on the figure give it a very eerie feel - you must be well pleased with the result/

  2. Thank you Joe, indeed the Nemesis story was very dark, but the underlying story was an old one of a few oppressed standing up to tyranny in the form of Termight and Torquemada.
I am pleased with the end result and if he comes off as eerie then I've done him justice, he wasn't too bad to sculpt just a little bit every now and then, letting bits dry hard before doing the next bit, the biggest problem is being able to wait for the green to go off before picking it up again ! LOL

  3. I remember Nemesis from when 2000AD was black and white. Very chaotic storyline and artwork too.

Your Deadlock is yet another fab realisation of a very cool ABC Warrior and the spell casting effect is excellent!

    1. Thank you Dai, indeed it was with Nemesis being the true agent of Khaos doing both things for good and bad ! LOL
Glad you like the effect, means the extra work was worth it, just glad my OCD isn't too bad as I'd need about 7 versions of him otherwise ! LOL

  4. This is a new one on me Dave and an awesome sculpt! The casting of the spell is inspired.

    1. Thank you Michael, originally Deadlock was portrayed as gold in colour, which may have made him more recognisable, but Clint's portrayal changed a lot on this classic member, originally just had the hand casting the spell, but thought an actual spell would be a lot cooler.

  6. Three so far, Dave? Making the rest of us look like pikers. Nice work on Deadlock. If I recall correctly, he's the robot equivalent of Nemesis? This figure would also pass for fantasy games.

So, how many more Warriors are left until you've completed your collection?

    1. Thank you Jez, no one should feel bad with all the great work going on, and should only compare their work against their own, as we all work at different rates.
You are spot on that he is the robot equivalent to Nemesis, which is why he was missing from the second version, as Nemesis was there.
I have 2 more robots left to finish and 2 ladies, plus Grobbendork, then I need to look at bigger items like George and the Blitzspear, very much doubt the last 2 will be done this year ! LOL

  7. Another great miniature Dave, you really are rattling through them now! Obviously I'm a big fan of Deadlock, but never really got into Nemesis till the Warriors joined him (that is the only Nemesis graphic novel I have).

A Blitzspear would be rather cool though, and George too!

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, a couple of the remaining ones are proving a bit of a pain, but I'll keep chipping away. Nemesis and the Warriors were my 2 favourite strips, so was a great bonus for me when they joined forces, I'm also fortunate to have collected all of Nemesis and the warriors in graphic novel form.
They would probably be a months work each, so need to plan them out carefully, but with the lockdown never say never ! LOL

  8. ABC Warriors was always my favourite strip followed by "Inferno", "Ro-Busters" and "Ace trucking", "Rogue Trooper" was a good one too, but I was never that big a fan of "Judge Dredd" except in the days when he had his "punk" friend (who's name I forget).I preferred Anderson PSI to be honest.

Oh and "Flesh" was good too.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Inferno, and Harlem Heroes were awesome, Ro-Busters was good but had a couple of naff stories ( only my opinion) Ace Trucking was very funny, Spikes Harvey Rotten was an awesome character, during their trek across the Cursed Earth to take serum to Mega City 2, Anderson was a great character and tended to investigate the darker side

  9. Splendid looking figure! I can't say I remember him from 2000ad, but to be honest I think I missed all the ABC warriors, still he looks great!
    Best Iain

    1. Thank you Iain, shame you missed the warriors, as it was a great set of adventures in my opinion, but glad you like the model

    1. Thank you Matt, he has gone through several looks, the gold armour was a long running theme until Clint Langley did this rendition

  12. He's a strange one for sure and I must admit I'm not familiar with this incarnation of him. I always liked the character though, far more sinister and even a bit villainous compared to the rest. I remember Hammerstein giving him a beating after one of his mischiefs in one of the comics I had. Great work, his weapon is a bit oversized but I like the rest.

    1. Thank you Wouter, he was a true follower of Khaos, and always held true to it, over the mission. Can see what you mean about the weapon, needed to be a lot thinner
