While running my first challenge, I'm also wanting to take part in Azazelx challenge the-jewel-of-july-2020-community-painting-challenge I have a couple of bits I'd like to do, but the main one I finally want to finish is this Dragon from MDP, this is another one I sculpted for them, and has sat for many years collecting dust and totally neglected. Over the last couple of days I have been putting the bits together and filling any gaps.
Thinking of a red colour scheme for the dragon, and possibly yellow wings, but that may change as the painting progresses.
Have also been looking at what I would like to do for the Summer of Scenery challenge, and have sorted out a couple of GW building pieces I'd like to finally get painted, but also I'm hoping to make some new scenery pieces, some for the business, and maybe a couple of pieces that are just for me, but will share more on this in a later post.
That's the lot for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Dragon is impressive Dave! How large is it?
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, he is a pretty large kit, the straight line measurement between wing tips is 360 mm, each wing is 200 mm wide and the total length of the dragon is 420 mm from nose to tip of tail. the base is 130 mm tall. Hope these measurements give an idea of scale
DeleteGreat work Dave & don't forget red ones go faster :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, indeed ! lol
DeleteI thought it was red stripes made them go faster!
DeleteIn the real world John, you would be right, in 40K a red paint gives you extra movement in an Ork army LOL
DeleteThat dragon is super cool, Dave. Can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteThank you Harry, me too as it's been hanging around in bits for years ! LOL
DeleteThat's a fairly substantial model, Dave. Should be fun to paint.
ReplyDeleteAnd regretfully, due to work commitments, it's unlikely I'll have time to take part in the scenery challenge. But I shall be watching along and supporting those taking part.
Thank you Jez, as long as I don't over complicate it, it should be good ! LOL
DeleteSorry to hear you won't be able to participate, but completely understand that work has to come first, and thank you for the support
That is one impressive beast. It must be th first I've seen that has irreggular finish n the trailing wing edge - great feature !
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, it's something I like to do on some of the Dragons I make, to represent damage from fighting other Dragons or prey
DeleteThat is a very impressive Dragon, you have done so beautiful Dragons over the years Dave, love that pose reminds me of "Reign of Fire" is that what it is based on?
ReplyDeleteNice little piece of scenery too, I feel like I should know what that is but can't put my finger on it!
Cheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, I like to vary the poses so they don't all look the same. The design came from a piece of art the client wanted it loosely based on, so as not to have any copyright infringements, but I know what you mean about Reign of Fire, except that was a Wyvern ! LOL
DeleteThe scenery is a ruined keep that was made for the Dragon, and comes as part of the kit, Had to build that part first to make sure the Dragon would fit, and look natural on top of it.
Your right of course it was a wyvern in the film. I should watch that again at some point!
ReplyDeleteThe piece of scenery I was referring to was the small Sci/Fi one at the end of the post, is that part of you "Liberator" set?
It's been a while since I've watched it also, may have to remedy that soon ! LOL
DeleteThe bit of scenery is a charging station for bio mechanicals like Servitors in 40K, but would work perfectly well for Borg as well, their will be some scenery soon for the Blake's 7 project, so watch this space
That's a magnificent dragon. As a Welshman, I'm hoping you paint it red :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, as I don’t currently have a red one I’m pretty sure it will be !
DeleteLovely looking dragon, can't wait to see it painted @
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, hopefully it will turn out okay
DeleteThat's going to be difficult to paint if it is still attached to the tower.
ReplyDeleteYou're not wrong Phil, luckily it is only placed on the base for the pictures. It was actually a tricky part of the original sculpt, to make sure it was perfectly balanced so as not to add extra pressure on the glue points.
DeleteThat's a huge model Dave, painting will be on an indistrial scale.
ReplyDeleteThank you John, definitely need to break out the bigger brushes for this one ! LOL
DeleteThat's bloody impressive! Even moreso (like infinitely moreso) as you sculpted it!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate, was the third dragon I sculpted, but the last to get painted ! LOL Hopefully it will turn into a Jewel
