Continuing on with trying to complete armies (as long as GW doesn't keep releasing new models for ones I thought I was at an end of ! LOL) I've painted up the last Raider I need for my Dark Eldar Wych army, this is the last section of the three factions that need finishing, I was lucky enough to get a new Raider for Christmas, and I've gone with the standard colours that I use for that faction mostly bone colour with weapons and details done in black and highlighted with green then gloss varnished.
I had to convert the crew to Wyches, as the standard model has Kabalite crew, but I think they turned out well. This now leaves 3 Khymerae to complete this army, which I have started to build, but may take some time.
You may have noticed my output for the current challenge has been lower than previous years, this is partly due to lot's of painted orders, not just the few bits I've been showing which are something new, but more standard stuff direct from my website, and also my children needing help with some bits for their Martial Arts entrances, for contests. They are allowed to give themselves fighting names, and use accessories for their entrances. My daughter chose the name Red Devil, and found a Japanese Demon mask on line, but the teeth and horns needed tidying as the painting on them was a bit sloppy.
My son chose the name Skullcrusher, and wanted a skull mask, when it came through, the painting was terrible, so I repainted the whole mask, also, my son liked the idea of having mirrored lenses behind the eyes, which I got from my favourite sunglasses that broke last year, I had to greenstuff these in as they didn't fit the eyes well.
Thinking of putting black cloth behind the ears and nose sockets to add to the effect. That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
That's an awesome Raider, Dave, with a very eye-catching bone-coloured scheme. I am very tempted by the new Mandrakes Kill Team - even though its probably been a good year since I last bought anything GW, and even longer for KT or WH40K.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, it's only the second new style one I've painted, as all the rest are first edition ones, and it took years to get round to painting the first, so wanted to get this one done a lot quicker ! LOL I've seen the new Mandrake's and they're nice but I made my own ones last year, so don't really need them, the children and I are just starting on Killteam, so we'll see how that goes.
Deletenice job! only 3 more models to completion.
ReplyDeleteWHAT kind of crazy scary martial arts is this? Do they also get a theme song, strobe lights, and a smoke machine for the entrance? almost sounds like pro wrestling. LOL. still, amazing job on the masks. Bet they will have the best ones. 😁
Thank you Stewart, yes only 3 more models and another army finished ! LOL
DeleteIt's MMA style, and the big promotions have caught onto the idea of pro wrestling with entrances and personas, luckily for my children I've watched pro wrestling for years, so have an idea on what they need, and yes they get to have entrance music as well, which I've been helping them find suitable music, my sons really happy as I found a song called Skullcrusher ! LOL
Absolutely awesome, and the work on the masks is truly amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, happy to have this last raider done, and I'd do anything I can to make my childrens childhood the best it can be ! LOL
DeleteWhat a fabulous job on the Raider Dave and I love how the children benifit from your hobby skills too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Michael, I struggled with some of the parts, and it almost ended up a dusty reminder because of it ! LOL I think they do too ! LOL
DeleteSome nice lookin sail barges, always a weird concept for me in 40K but you make it work. The masks came out great, your kids must be stoked!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, I really dislike the sail that they come with, so have left it off of both, I still prefer the original Raiders, as they look like they would actually be able to carry ten people, whereas the new ones don't ! LOL Both children are very happy, which is the main thing for me.
DeleteOf all the factions in 40k, I feel like Dark Eldar are one of the safer bets for not getting lots of new releases. I'd love to be wrong about that though! The Raiders look great and will fit right in with the rest of your army. I love the red Oni mask! That is intimidating. I feel like a Kabuki mask like Asuka favors could be a logical next step ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, I have to agree, but with the new Mandrakes for Killteam, who knows ! LOL It's nice to have the last gap on the shelf now full, and all in paint ! LOL I did show my daughter both style of mask, this was the one she preferred, and have been showing both children different entrances from WWE to give them ideas about their own entrances ! LOL
DeleteRaider looks good, hope you can fit more Dark Eldar in to complete your army.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jonny, pleased with the end result on this one, and hoping to get the last 3 done during Monster May(hem)
DeleteWell, I don't think GW has any intention of slowing down on releases (or re-releases) anytime soon! ;) The raider turned out well.
ReplyDeleteI like those masks. I have a similar asian mask made of something like porcelain, but it's not painted. It holds a pair of sais. I should see if I can't paint it up, as it might look even cooler. If you don't mind me asking, what martial arts are your kids taking? What level/belt are they?
Thank you Brian, they are consistent on rerealising rules and army lists, so I expect them to keep changing what's in them, for me I will only pick up bits I like and not just change my whole army for the latest version, plus I'm no longer using their ruleset, so can put what I want in there ! LOL
ReplyDeleteThe masks were certainly something different than what I normally work on, and always happy to do my best for my children. If you do paint it make sure to post it on your blog. They are currently doing a mixed martial arts, and self defence, and they are both at green belt level, and they've only been there for a year and a half, so doing well, my son used to do Kempo
Thanks, yea I would certainly post the mask. Heck if I paint the house, I'm posting it, haha!
DeleteI think mixed martial arts is really where it's at, unless you're looking to be a purist. But from a self defense point of view, every martial art in its pure form was weak in some way. It's why Bruce Lee developed a new style incorporating bits from them all. My daughter is taking TKD and should be a blue belt in a month. I think she's been going for almost 2 years? It's been great for helping her build coordination and confidence. She's determined to become a black belt! :D
And why not it's still painting ! LOL
DeleteI think you are bang on with your assessment of the martial arts, and Bruce Lee was an amazing man with all he developed and achieved. It's great when they have a goal, as it gives them something to aim and strive for, and helps with their focus.
Nice work on the raider, Dave! :-) I really like that colour scheme! And nice work on the masks - they look really good!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, I do like this colour scheme, and enjoy painting it, which is always a bonus ! LOL The masks were an interesting distraction, and challenge working on a 1:1 scale piece
DeleteThe paint scheme on the raider looks really good there Dave. The masks look pretty cool as well. Do the young'uns have capes or robes to go with? The entrances are sounding a bit WWE!

Thank you Azazael, I do like the bone colour scheme the best out of the three I've got. The masks were a fun distraction, they didn't want robes or capes. Funnily enough I've been showing them different entrances from WWE to give them inspiration ! LOL
