Recently it was discussed over on Roger's blog rantingsfromunderthewargamestable to do a challenge where we all painted the same model, to see all the different interpretations people would come up with. I offered to sculpt a model and cast it so we would have something a bit different, and all who wanted to participate could get hold of the model for a £1 plus postage to their part of the world, as we cover a lot of the globe. after a couple of posts by Roger the model that was decided upon was a “Savage, armoured fantasy Ogre with a hand weapon”. Now there are many different styles of Ogre depending on what system you play, but I wanted to do something different, so I went back to Mythology as a starting point, I went with Norse, as the Oriental version of a Ogre looks very demon like, Google says An ogre (feminine: ogress) is a legendary monster depicted as a large, hideous, man-like being that eats ordinary human beings, especially infants and children. I started with this as my basis, and came up with this model.
Knowing a lot of the painters that have expressed an interest, I've tried to include something for everyone, plenty of surfaces for heraldry, lots of textures, and a large portion of bare skin, if tattoo's are your thing. The model will be cast in three pieces, left and right hand, and the main central part of the model. As we all suffer from dropsy (Roger) I will be reinforcing the casts with metal pins, to make it less fragile. I will supply either a square or round base depending on your preference, or none in Roger's case ! LOL I've had a couple ideas to make the postage easier as well, Keith expressed that I had some items in my store that he wants to get so I will combine his Ogre with his order ( anyone else thinking of doing this mark Challenge Ogre in the notes, when ordering), I'm not sure how much of a saving the next idea would make, as I don't know your local rates, but I could send all the Ogres for one country to a single person and they would then distribute to the others, sharing the initial cost to get it overseas, if this idea is feasible, you would need to decide who was going to be the distribution hub. Now I just have to resist the temptation to paint this model before September ! LOL There is still plenty of time to join in the challenge, just pop on over to Roger's blog and let him know, or comment on here, and I will pass on the details.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
