LET IT SNOW

Over the last couple of weeks, I've been busy building some more Frostgrave scenery for my client, this next one he wanted a two floor building with a couple of skulls, and some Ice Troll, or White Ape footprints, so here's the pictures.

Once I'd shown my client he asked for more snow on the floorboards, which wasn't a problem as I'd done minimal, as it would be easier to add more than remove it.

These next pictures are for Roger, as he wanted proof of my construction. Now if your into building models the reason for this would be to see how something is put together.

Next my client asked for another set of ruined walls, being of similar size to the first set, while doing them I've tried a few new things to see how far I can push the foam core, which will help when building different pieces in the future, I also added some snow leopard footprints and a rat.

Here are the construction pictures.

That's all for todays post, the next one will be for the "Paint What You Got Challenge", so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Those are lovely mate, I'm especially impressed with the arched windows and doorway, not easy to get right, but these look spot on! thanks also for the wip's (some people are just never satisfied and bloody cheeky aren't they!)

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you roger, really wanted to see how far the foam can be pushed as you could do so much with architect board, but is very expensive and hard to get hold of, and also can be very fragile. No problem on the WIP pictures, now I know people want them I'll try to remember to include them ! LOL

  2. Terrific stuff, Dave. One of my favourite of your many posts, tbh, as you really see in the pics how each project takes shape. Incredible what you can achieve with some foamboard, wood, PVA and imagination.

    1. Thank you Simon, the balsa wood pieces also have a layer of plasticard underneath to give them added strength, as the balsa wood alone can be quite fragile. Hopefully the WIP shots will give others ideas on how to do their own scenery as well.

  3. Absolutely love this Dave, packed full of wonderful details which I adore. (The footprints are genius!) Like Roger, I love seeing how things go together so that I can use the techniques myself.

    1. Thank you Michael, the first piece I did for the client had human footprints, so he asked for the snow Troll ones, and I thought a snow leopard would be cool on the third. I find little details give the whole piece life and help tell a story. Glad you like the WIP's and always happy to answer questions on the construction.

  4. Fantastic stuff. The arches look excellent, I'm impressed, but it's the little details what make the difference. The tiny footprints and the rat, for example, that's pure genius. Great job!

    1. Thank you Suber, indeed getting the basic construction is important, but the details really give it life, and make the whole piece.

These have come out really nicely, Dave! :-) I like the trail of little paw prints leading to the rat on the window ledge! And I need to sort some bits out to paint for the "Paint What You Got" challenge as I've slumped a bit recently!

  6. Looking great, Dave! I like the arches and the construction shots. I have only made walls out of foamcore, so it's interesting to see how you can add additional floors. If I get back to skirmish games, will have to give that a try!

  7. Excellent work Dave! Love the WIP (I'm with Roger on that). Are you running a paint what you got challenge? If so I missed it?

  9. Poor chilly rat. Wonder he manages to hide out at to get out of that chill when he's not too busy gnawing on that bloody bonebox?

    1. Thank you Dai, his store/nest will be shown in the next piece I'm building for the client. I think he's just worried about the snow leopard prints at this time ! LOL

  10. This is a really cool piece of terrain, Dave. I think the footprints really add some nice signs of life to it as well. While I have never considered taking up Frostgrave since I have too much to do as it is, I would love making terrain and miniatures in that winter setting. It always looks visually impressive to me anyway.

    1. Thank you Jeff, a couple of friends wanted me to do Frostgrave, but like you had too many other projects, so this has been good fun for me getting to explore this scenery, and add story to the pieces.
