THERE ARE MANY ADJUSTMENTS TO BE MADE

Managed to get another vehicle finished for the SOS challenge, and this time it's the Blade Wing Prototype. The first time this vehicle was seen was the film " Return of the Jedi" back then it was referred to as the B-Wing, and was part of the rebel armada that destroyed the second Death Star. The next time it was seen was in the series "Star Wars Rebels" where we got to see the prototype version on it's maiden voyage piloted by Hera Syndulla.

I went for the prototype colour scheme for several reasons, the model was based on that version, and I got to paint a ship in something other than grey or white, I've left off my normal weathering, as it's a ship that hasn't seen much action. Below is the reference picture of the Prototype, and below that is the original version seen in ROTJ.

We have now passed the half way point on the challenge, and there has been some outstanding entries already, we still have almost four weeks left, so you still have time if you want to join in. So that's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Big fan of the B-Wing, Dave. Possibly my fave of the Star Wars Rebel ships, and your paint-job is excellent. Is that a model kit or something you picked up on Etsy..?

    1. Thank you Simon, I also like the B-Wing, in fact all the rebel ships to be honest ! LOL This is a 3D print that I found on Ebay, just need to find a Y-wing and then I have one of each type of Rebel fighter and bomber, still have a few Imperials to find as well ! LOL

  2. Love this Dave and like Simon, thought this was such a great ship when it first appeared. So pleased when it got its own backstory in Rebels.

    1. Thank you Michael, it has such a unique look to it, as do all the Star Wars ships, the backstory really added to the character of the ship, and also explained why it was there for ROTJ, now if they gave a reason behind the A-Wing as well that would be awesome ! LOL

  3. Everyone loves the B wing. Those that don’t are wrong in the head.
That thing looks massive! Now all you need is some sort of hanger set up and the scenario of imps assaulting a rebel hanger will write itself. 😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, indeed what's not to love about a ship that's so original ! LOL
It is rather large, about a foot and a half long, had a similar idea of a rebel outpost/ temporary camp, then the Imps assaulting it, good to know we are on the same wavelength.

  4. Wow, that's amazing looking. I do wonder where you manage to store all of these gigantic Star Wars pieces - and all the rest for that matter!

    1. Thank you Azazel, I currently have a lot of shelves that are starting to fill up rapidly ! LOL eventually I will have a custom shelving unit that will hold even more.

Crikey, that's brilliant Dave! :-) I really like your colour scheme - hard enough to get those colours to look right on a small model let alone one this size! I remain committed to finishing some scenery before the end of the challenge but I need to progress it carefully so that it doesn't get upstaged by my wife's decoupage projects!

    1. Thank you John, I actually made it harder for myself by using a old pot of Tamiya Orange, that dries super quick, but it was the right shade, so fought on through with it ! LOL No worries on the challenge John, and slow and steady will get the best results, I have the same problem with my children's creativity ! LOL

    1. Thank you Suber, can't take credit for the colour choices, as I was just emulating what was in the series, but I think they turned out well.

  7. Great job on the B-Wing, Dave! I love the orange and white colours and it's such a cool and unique spaceship, almost up there with the X-Wing.

    1. Thank you Matt, when I saw it in Rebels I thought it was very striking, and as the model was the prototype, just had to have a go. I think all the ships from the original trilogy were very unique and iconic, the model makers did a fantastic job.

    1. Thank you Joe, it certainly is a bit of a beast of a model. Easily done with so many films and ships over the years, it's a hard job keeping up with them all ! LOL

  9. Great job on the B-Wing! I always wondered why they called it that, as it doesn't look much like a "B". Though if it's short for Blade Wing, that makes more sense now! Do you hang any of these with wires in the house? I did that for my son when he completed one of the Lego Star Destroyers.

    1. Thank you Faust, indeed it didn't it was only after the Rebels series calling it a Blade Wing it made sense ! LOL I haven't had ships hanging from the ceiling since I was a kid, and unfortunately the ceiling in my hobby room is quite low, so would probably end up smacking my head on them, although it would be very atmospheric.

    1. Thank you Iain, to be honest it got very little screen time, certainly a lot less than the other 3 ships the rebels had ! LOL

  11. I like B-Wings as I think they have a cool design but seeing them in orange is really something. They look great with a splash of color on them. Excellent work as always, Dave and its always a pleasure seeing you work on Star Wars minis and terrain too :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, it was such a unique and iconic shape when it first appeared, knew I had to have one, and the prototype colours added to it's uniqueness and made a refreshing change from painting the greys and whites normally associated with Star Wars. Hopefully next year I shall have finished many of my 40K projects so I can concentrate more on Star Wars.

  12. Sorry mate I'm a bit behind with my blog reading/commenting. Great work on this ship, I like the prototype colour scheme, strange to see a Star Wars ship at the start of it's life rather than the beat-up end of it as usual! 😁

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, no worries, at least you made it. Indeed, it was great to see it's origins, and was a great episode of Rebels, I would like to do some crashed ships at some point, so the other end of the scale, and would make some interesting scenarios.
