FOR FLOCKS SAKE

I don't know about anyone else, but this heat is seriously slowing up my painting ! While I've been working on my next level of scenery, I've also been chipping away at getting some of my Kroot force finished, first up today is the second of the Great Knarloc's that I have sculpted, now the crossbow that Forgeworld did was fun, but I fancied a weapon with a bit more firepower so I came up with the Quad Gun, effectively 4 larger versions of the Kroot Gun you normally see on a Krootox.

and here it is with it's two cousins, making this unit complete. Talking of complete I also managed to finish 3 more Knarloc riders.

Here they are with the other two I previously completed, I did change the base from the first one I finished to get rid of the rod, and have something a little more scenic instead.

I've also got 6 Kroot finished to go in my Krotox herd.

The last 4 for this unit will have to wait, as GW have announced some new Kroot models, and there are 4 in the set with hunting rifles that will fill this unit, here is a sample of what they are releasing.

So why am I waiting for these, well they are being released as part of a Kill Team boxset called into the dark. I've looked at the rest of the contents, and decided I'll wait until they release the Kroot on their own, but want to include them in my army. So far there is only one Kroot model I don't have which is this shaper.

For some reason I've never seen it available to buy, which means it's one I'll never have.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you Suber, it's certainly grown from the original concept ! LOL When the new box set comes out it's got 12 models in it 2 hounds which I'll give to my Dark shaper, the four for the unit shown above, and the rest will make up a small retinue for the Dark Shaper, then I only have 3 Vulture Kindred left to build, and I'm calling this one done.

  2. Another stonking build Dave, absolutely love it. As for the heat, I am having the same problems, early mornings are working best for me.

    1. Thank you Michael, was really happy with this build, I've been keeping an eye on the paint and adding water as I go to keep it moving, plus washing the brush out as I'm going, to stop it drying on the brush.

  3. Love these models, Dave, and that quad gun looks absolutely devastating!

    1. Thank you Matt, it's a nice feeling to finally see this army close to completion, but don't want to let the standard drop this close to finishing. Glad you like the gun, thought they could do with a weapon that packs a wallop.

  4. The Kroot look to be very one with their beasts and do look like they mean business (of the destructive kind). The laastesst addition fits well with the others and probably the meanest looking of the entire bunch.

    1. Thank you Joe, I felt that rather than subduing the beasts they would work with them, I know this is different to GW's idea, but I thought it was more fitting for them. Glad they all fit together well, as one was bought and two were built, and agree the latest one looks the most aggressive, wasn't planned that way, but happy with how it turned out.

These are just brilliant Dave! :-) I'm maybe a bit luckier than you as far as the weather goes since I'm further north and at the moment we've got a slight sea breeze that cools things a little (and the foghorns are going in the distance)! Despite me not appearing to finish any scenery I'm making steady progress!

    1. Thank you John, it's turning into one of my favourite armies. A cool sea breeze would be lovely ! LOL A;; progress is good progress mate, and it's not about finishing first, or who does the most (Azazel normally beats all of us !LOL) it's about getting the scenery done, or getting a good start on next years challenge ( already getting a few ideas).

I can see that I'm probably going to have at least a couple of items at least that won't get finished before the end of August, but I think I might try and get then finished before next year's challenge! So far I'm staying quite focused and enjoying it!

    3. What this challenge is all about John, getting more scenery done, even if it's not in the challenge period.

  6. Those are looking great, Dave! Excellent models and vibrant color schemes! After I got an airbrush to prime, I found the weather has very little impact on my painting. There have been a few days where I had to use the garage early in morning before it got unbearable, but otherwise it's been great. Work and the random family plans, those tend to have a much bigger impact on my painting time! ;)

    1. Thank you Faust, i really like the tropical bird feel that the colours bring, and have found a colour scheme ready for the bird on top of the rifle. I very rarely spray primer anymore, and base colour straight to the model, to lessen down the amount of paint, not to obscure any fine details, especially on 3D prints, it's not so much the heat in the UK at the moment, more the humidity that is drying out the paint so quick, which just takes longer to keep it workable, but as you say real life can be demanding as well ! LOL

  7. The weather has cooled down here in Chicago so it hasn't affected me adversely but I also have air conditioning so it wouldn't stop me like I'm sure it does others in your country. With that said, the latest Kroot looks great and I was wondering if you were excited about the new Kroot sculpts. They don't get a lot of love from GW so I figured it has to be at least kind of exciting. If you keep your eyes on eBay, you might be able to get the Kroot sculpts from that new box set at a reasonable price after it releases. Its hard to predict but it does seem to happen somewhat frequently so I'd say its worth a shout as you guys say!

    1. Thank you Jeff, yes you guys are more used to the heat in the US and most have air conditioning to make it easier to deal with, not something we have a lot over here, mostly large buildings, if the weather keeps heading in this direction, it may be something we have to invest in. I like my latest Knarloc, and it has become my favourite ! LOL It is nice to see GW finally giving the Kroot some new models, I will probably wait for GW to release them separately as from what I see it takes between 3 to 6 months from the release of the boxset, to individual units, and will hopefully make it cheaper than using Ebay, but will be keeping an eye on it from that source as well, as I regularly check for the missing Kroot Shaper anyway.

  8. Well I paint in the deepest darkest corner of my house so the one benefit is that it’s cool down there….
Amazing job on the Kroot and I’m hoping you’ll get your miniature one day. 😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, indeed, no cellar in my place, at this rate may have to invest in aircon ! LOL I still hold out hope on finding the missing Kroot, or I'll get fed up of looking and build one ! LOL really like my Kroot force and the colour choices I went for.

  9. Stunning posting Dave, with lots to see and enjoy. What an awesome sized Kroot force you've assembled & painted. Terrific effort - especially in this heat.

    1. Thank you Simon, it's a bit bigger than I initially was going for, but that's the thing with armies, they can grow with your ideas. Got 3 Vulture Kindred to finish, then just waiting for the new models. This heat is not great for paint indeed ! LOL

    1. Thank you Roger, certainly a lot different from the normal colour scheme you see, and I enjoy painting it to, which has to be a bonus ! LOL The purple shoulder pads was my wife's idea, and think it was a great idea, against the other colours used.
