STAGE 1 COMPLETED

When building and painting GW buildings it feels a bit like working through a level on a computer game, the basic structure and painting feel like the level your working on, and then to finish it you have to defeat the big boss at the end, which would be all the finishing details required.

Well I've completed the level on this building, and now need to take on the big boss at the end.

As you can see from the pictures, I've gone for a light weathering, as the building is intact, I've also gone for a state of opulence, as I will be using the building as my chapters Chapel, I've added windows using acetate, I would have liked to do it in yellow, like I did for the gatehouse, but all I had was the frosted one. Next I need to build a base, and at some point a roof for the building, and maybe a pulpit to go inside.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Those turned out a treat! I think you just nailed my feeling for GW minis as well! With all the little details and tidbits they throw on, it can seemingly take forever to finish them at times. "Ok, I finally managed the base paints, washes, highlights, and all those damned belt straps...I must be close to done with this unit....Oh wait, this one guy is eating a pizza and that guy over there is playing an accordion...arggggh....!!" ;)

    1. Thank you Faust, I thought this analogy might resonate with anyone who's done a GW kit ! LOL sometimes it does feel like they add extra detail just for the sake of it, but if it was the other end of the scale, we probably wouldn't be very happy either ! LOL It's why I always try and build the scenery I sell around the midway, and only include a skull if it's necessary ! LOL

  2. Lovely work on a very intricate bit of kit, GW kits weren't as complex back when I used to get them, but I guess if they weren't like that now I wouldn't have got my big box of c*** from my mate!

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, for me some of the details make sense, where others seem a bit overkill, like the number of fan panels, a few plain ones would have been better in my opinion ! LOL I guess we should thank them for it, for you getting your box of goodies mate ! LOL

    1. Thank you Suber, these kits really do have a lot of detail on them (and skulls ! LOL) so need to put in the extra effort to make them look good.

  7. Great looking building, Dave, and yes, GW does pile on the little fiddly details, sometimes to the point of overkill. At least with all those fans the Marines will be nice and cool in summer LOL!

    1. Thank you Matt, don't get me wrong I like some detail, I just wish it had a purpose, some of the bits they include, make no sense for a building ! LOL With the way the blades are angled, they would be for extraction, obviously worried about a large build up of gas ! LOL

  8. The video game analogy certainly landed with me! I think the finished terrain looks great and really captures the 40k feel. I always feel a sense of relief when I finish a big terrain project. Hopefully you've got something fun in your hobby queue lined up next to celebrate as well :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, glad I could resonate with you with the analogy, as they can be a bit hit or miss ! LOL Was very glad to get to this point, as it could be called finished, but hopefully the next part to it will really make you go wow. I do have something that's almost finished that I've enjoyed thoroughly, and will hopefully have it posted up by tomorrow.

  9. Lovely work on this. And I'm in full agreement - the overdetailing on GW terrain kits is a real block to finishing them. They're supposed to be terrain FFS!

    1. Thank you Azazel, I've been looking at their Kill Zone, into the dark, which makes these look plain in comparison ! LOL
