ONE MORE BEFORE I GO

As I mentioned in Thursdays post, I will be away from the PC this week, but should return next weekend, but have managed to finish another model to show before I go.

This is a LAAT /le Patrol Transport, produced by Fantasy Flight Games as part of their Legion line. The vehicle first saw service before the end of the Clone Wars, and makes several appearances in the cartoon series "the Clone Wars" mostly on the planet Corruscant. When the Empire takes over in the timeline these vehicles continue to see service, and can be seen in the series "Star Wars Rebels". As yet it hasn't appeared in a live action movie or series, but who knows what the future will bring.

I took a photograph of the interior before putting the last pieces together, as once completed I didn't think much would show up and it doesn't ! LOL at least I know it's painted. I've done this one in full flight mode, with the access doors at the rear closed, as I was lucky enough to get two for Christmas, and the second one I'm going to convert a little to show it in landed position, with the rear access doors open.

That's all for this quick post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Wow! Having done some google-fu to find some images of that vessel with some legion foot-troopers on the ground to give it some scale, I can see just how large a brute it is. Awesome work, Dave. And you have a second one too..? Awesome pieces for the tabletop. :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, it's smaller than the LAAT gunship I painted last year, but still a fair size model. I was very lucky at Christmas, and just need to work out how to strengthen the landed version, so I can progress with that one to.

  2. Very nicely done, looks a bit like a cross between a Tie fighter and the dropship from Aliens.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, I think your right with the influences on it's design, I also see some insect influences in some of the sections.

  3. Huh, strange one to make an official model of, but I like it. Very much in fact.

Good stuff Dave and I am intrigued by the second one and how you’ll model that too.

Hope the week away is filled with relaxing opportunities and not yucky work! Stay safe mate

    1. Thank you Dai, glad they did as I had wanted one for the fact it was so prevalent in Rebels, and saved having to scratchbuild one ! LOL There's a couple of bits that need to be modified for a landed version, the bottom two wings as the bend flat for it to sit on, and the back two walkways swing out and further back, plus I have to make them load bearing.
It is a relaxing time, and hopefully should have some interesting pictures when I get back, but I don't find my work yucky ! ROFL

  4. I've just shouted at my screen some ugly words I won't repeat, but all of them were just in admiration :O
I didn't know the model existed, but now I do need one!

    1. Thank you Suber, it was one of FFG's big releases last year, and was quite surprised that they did one due to it's size, had thought I was going to have to find a 3D print, or build one myself ! LOL It does have some great detail both in the crew cab and transport cab, if you want to do it with the doors open. Glad I was able to surprise you ! LOL

Impressive, Dave! :-) And dusty! Looks really good and it's reinforcing the fact that I need to watch all of Clone Wars and Rebels again!

    1. Thank you John, went for light weathering on this one compared to some of the others I've done. That wouldn't be a waste of time in my opinion ! LOL Did you like Cad Banes appearance in the book of Boba Fett ?

  8. That's one Brute of a model and must have been a pain to paint ! Great job on the brushwork btw, given the grainy reference photo it's probably how it would look in sunlight !

    1. Thank you Joe, some of it had to be painted as parts to be able to get the brush to all sections, but was worth the extra work. As all the reference pictures are taken from cartoons it's a bit of extra work to make it look real, but worth it.

  9. Great stuff Dave! Can never have enough Star Wars 😀
How sturdy is the model, it looks like it could be a bit fragile moving back and forth on the tabletop, especially those wings?

    1. Thank you Ivor, the wings securing points are pretty good so not much chance of being knocked off, but for the landed version will need to be reinforced to support the weight of the model, as will the steps at the back.

  10. That’s a pretty cool looking ship. 😀Though without a miniature next to it I can’t tell the scale. Supposed to hold how many troops?

    1. Thank you Stewart, should have remembered the model ! LOL will have to correct that when I show the next one. From the cartoons I've only seen 5 or 6 troops in the crew compartment, but at a push they could probably squeeze in 10.

  11. Excellent work, Dave, and the transport ship has that classic Imperial look to it. Lovely work on the painting and weathering!

    1. Thank you Mark, the rocks on the bottom are actually miscasts of some of the rocks I produce, where I used left over resin and changed the angle of the mould to make these rock variations for my projects.

  13. The ship looks great, Dave! I'd be curious to see how many ships you have done now. I imagine you have quite a few :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, will have to start doing some group pictures soon for you. The vehicle total for the Imperials is currently 7 including walkers and tanks, Rebels have 3 and scum & villainy have 2, so I maybe need a few more ! LOL
