YOU CLEAN UP WELL

Not wanting to leave the stormtroopers that Frank sent over to last, like I had done previously when I got any, I have got them all finished. I moved one I already had into the unit, now making it a unit of 10. I've gone for a clean look on these, as if they were garrisoned in a local base so not covered in dust and grime, like you normally see on Tatooine.

While I got these finished, I have started on redoing some of the troopers I already have, and picked out 2 four man units that I also thought would benefit from the clean look, as they were unlikely to be deployed all the time, first is some rocket troopers, I've included the reference picture I used for them below, as well as what they used to look like.

Next I got the four riot troopers done, no reference picture I'm afraid but have included what they used to look like.

I've also got the four Trandoshan hunters painted, I added some greenstuff crests to one, to better suit the reference artwork below.

Firday I hope to have another Fembruary post, if not it will be "The Paint What You Got" challenge roundup, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

All very nice, Dave! :-) I'm not sure if it's because I was a teenager when Star Wars came out but I do like the classic stormtrooper look! Having said that, I like the clone variants and the First Order versions as well!

    1. Thank you John, I think if we had seen the clone troopers first, and then seen the progression to Stormtroopers, and forward it would have been easier to like each variation, but I too like the clone variants, not so fond of the first order, just reminds me of Donald Duck ! LOL

  2. I admit to being a big fan of the classic Stormtrooper look and the large unit of htem looks good. The pose of the rocket troops looks strnge, but highly believable, whilst the riot squad looks the biz, but what are they armed with -cattle prods ?
With the peculiar stancds of the hunters, you've made a great job of making them all look different and the conversion is not npticeable, blending in really well.

    1. Thank you Joe, do like the classic style myself. The rocket troopers I think are styled as if coming in to land, o look a little awkward, but as you say believable. The riot troopers are carrying stun poles, which are very useful in close combat.
The varying colours adds some variation, which would be otherwise lacking.

  3. Great work, Dave, for minis that are basically just white you've really brought out the detailing and character of your typical Stormtrooper. Can they shoot straight though? LOL! I really like the riot troopers, I'd never heard of them till seeing this post. The Trandoshan hunters are excellent, I love the variation of skin colours and the added crest really works.

    1. Thank you Matt, the contrast base really helps pick out all the details, before highlighting back up. Stormtroopers couldn't hit the side of a Bantha ! LOL The Riot Troopers were a FFG invention, and so far haven't appeared in any show or film, but who knows they might at some point. Mostly you see them in brown with maybe a green tinge, but these were all in an episode of Clone Wars, and really liked all the different colours.

  4. All looks great sir! Your Empire collection is getting rather large now.

The Trandoshans are my favs in this post tho. Good colour choices, remind me of the ones in Book of Fett

    1. Thank you Dai, still need more Stormtroopers, and would like a few of the drivers and pilots for the vehicles.
The Trandoshans have had a pretty good airing through the latest series, but haven't had the colour makeover like a lot of the other species yet.

  5. More Star Wars marvels, Dave. Brave decision to go back and 'touch-up' the 'old guard' stormtroopers - I do it myself from time to time and am never happy as I could be painting new minis, LOL!!! Your touch-ups look excellent though, and fit in very well with the rest of your Imperials.

    1. Thank you Simon, since changing how I paint them, I knew I would need to return to them at some point, Frank's gift gave me the push I needed to get on with it. I'm a lot happier with the finish now, and working my way through the dirty troopers currently, so should have them all to the same standard soon.

  7. Smashing work Dave, love the new look stormtroopers. I always worry about 'distressing' freshly painted work for fear of spoiling what has gone before, but then never have the courage to go back and finish them. Even more credit to you for this then. Been having a look at what you have been up to, so much to enjoy and always an inspiration.

    1. Thank you Michael, can be a daunting task to distress and weather nicely painted models, luckily the technique I'm currently using can be easily corrected, as I'm doing it with glazes, the biggest problem I find is where to put the dirt ! LOL Try to keep busy, and if I can inspire others, then I've accomplished something.

  8. Great stuff Dave! One can never have enough Stormtroopers 😀 It's really a shame that the Imperial Assault models have no variations on models like the Stormtroopers and Trandosans.

    1. Thank you Ivor, indeed could do with a lot more ! LOL Agreed and so nice to see that they learnt their lesson when it came to Legion, although there is a lot of gaps that need filling still ! LOL

  9. Nicely done mate, the updates look better than your originals, as an aside, I do prefer the original Stormtroopers a lot more that the updated versions in the last three movies.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, a lot more effort than the originals, but worth it in my opinion. Agreed the originals were far better than the latest version, and that includes pilots and snowtroopers.

  11. Pretty cool and nicely done. The jet pack guys look like they’re coming in for a dramatic landing. 😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, a lot happier with them now, and that was my thoughts exactly on the Rocket Troopers.

  13. Wow I never realised there was so many different type of stormtroopers Dave, & for me I think the clean look is much better :)

    1. Thank you Frank, FFG have added a few of their own, but Lucasfilm have been slowly adding through the cartoon series, and live action series. With this way of painting them I don't mind the clean look, it's just that doing Tatooine for the setting, the dirty look is iconic ! LOL

  14. These look fantastic Dave, and it's making me want to play the game again - it's been a while - but then I'd want more stuff and end up buying loads, which would then never get painted because I've already got a massive backlog, and, of course, I'd have to blame you for your inspiring work!😉

    1. Thank you Justin, always a tricky rabbit hole, that looks so cool, maybe I should do something similar with mine, and before you know it, you need a second mortgage ! LOL I think Jeff's idea is the best way, living vicariously through others hobbies to cover that itch, while focusing on one or two projects ! LOL

    2. Cheers, Dave! All I can say is that the path Justin walks is one to the Dark side... And most likely a lighter wallet ;)

    3. With the latest rabbit hole he's gone down, would have to agree ! LOL

  15. I think its safe to say that you've been giving your white paint a bit of a workout, Dave! :) The Stormtroopers look great in groups and I agree with Matt, they still probably won't hit much, even in numbers haha! Those riot control stormtroopers got me on Youtube because I remember there was something like that in the Force Awakens but it turns out that that Stormtrooper design had a small shield and a funny looking weapon. I still think FFG was a bit ahead of the curve there regardless!

    1. Thank you Jeff, your not wrong on the white paint taking a battering, and have even more coming up soon as well ! LOL I think old Ben Kenobi, must have been getting delusional in his old age, as from what I've seen the sand people are far more accurate than the stormtroopers ! LOL Were you thinking of the trooper with the energy baton, that Finn fought, he was cool though. FFG did come up with some gems over the years.

    2. Ben might have overrated Stormtroopers just a bit! :) Yeah, that is the exact trooper I was thinking of. That one that yells, "Traitor" which is entertaining to me anyway. He seems to take his job very seriously!

    3. Indeed ! LOL I think that scene was one of the best fight sequences in the movie, better than any of the lightsabre duels.
